Back when I watched Gravity Falls, before I even engaged with online cartoon discussion, I couldn't help but get the feeling that Dipper and Mabel represent two sides of the author, like he "feels" like Dipper and thus punishes him, but wishes he could be a Mabel, who despite being much worse of a person is permitted to get away with it all, a privilege some are born with and some don't have to be a living nuisance and still be loved and adored

>>150137383DESU, the whole finale was... pretty bad. Part 1 had immersion-breaking levels of plot armour. Why did Bill not kill Mabel or turn her into a newt or something? Why did it make it possible to open her prison? Why did he give Gideon a real key? Why did he even work with Gideon at this point when he was of no use to him? Part 2 was 20 minutes of Mabelwank. Dipper has to sacrifice his dreams for her, she gets everything she wanted. Yay. Part 3... well, first of all, I wasn't even a fan of the giant robot in the S1 finale. So the giant robot battle here also didn't tickle my fancy. I just don't see how a giant robot battle is an organic conclusion to a carton homage to Twin Peaks. It doesn't add up. But, of course, Part 3 also has plenty of other silliness. The all powerful taco can't handle two kids running around his fortress. The "zodiac" was a last-minute, half-assed answer to a non-mystery. Everything gets reset to pre-apocalypse because it's a Disney cartoon. Stanley gets to regain his memories over time because it's a Disney cartoon.
