Bruce Timm didn't even want to make this. He wanted to make a Justice League follow up and the big wigs at Warner Bros said no because they wanted more Batman. Bruce is probably not passionate about this and feels he is retreading the same steps.

Obviously there are some major cultural differences that would beget a change in stories and a need to differentiate.) but I think another bit at play is people are afraid of what will happen when you finally put an end to the "Modern" Age and get to look back on it in retrospective. There's a plethora of things that have happened that are wildly unpopular changes of course compared to the way things have worked from the Golden Age onward and a lot of the criticism has been dismissed with an attitude of: "Get with the times! That was THEN and this is NOW. We're shaking things up and MAKING CHANGES it's going to make things BETTER!" but that's not really been the case. As long as those things remain in the "Modern Age" it's all still up in the air and protected by this air of "it's ok because it's new" and "lets wait and see" but the second you can end that chapter and put it firmly in the past with us in a new age that's looking back and learning from past mistakes, suddenly A LOT of things stand out in a very harsh and unflattering light that a majority of these critic and creative types do not want to address.
I thought Beware the Batman was overall average, barely anyone watched it, and it was still better than Caped Crusader. After a certain point, the vast majority of western animation forgot how to create and use a sense of atmosphere
