I honestly think there are a few Disney villains people say are "queer-coded" but really aren't. Jafar never struck me as having much in common with gay stereotypes; sure, he looks like he might be wearing kohl, but that's common practice in the Middle East for the same reason football players wear eye black. And Hades? Since when is "shady used car salesman" a gay stereotype?
>>150143579hades is the only iffy one in that image, and that's largely because he's doing a specific schtick and is highy connected to his original actor. the other guys are just using flamboyance and arch camp, standard characteristics of old-timey queer-coded villainy. ursula is a drag queen homage, so there's no question there.
In what world is Jafar queer?
>>150143645no one said he was
>>150143645You needed a beard at the time
>>150143660Look at the OP image
>>150143684he's asking about coding, which usually requires the character not to be explicitly that thing. like a "black-coded" character wouldn't be black, it would be a term applied to some fantasy race that had some element borrowed from them that viewers could recognize.
>>150143579Jafar isn't cause he wanted to fuck Jasmine. Hades could be, because of the times, but the again, he is supposed to be married, wnd out fo all the greek Gods, he's the least probable to commit aldultery
>>150143835Scar originally wanted to fuck Nala, so he's out. The fat fucks could be, just due to them being fat and flamboyant
>>150143645Gays see what they want to see.
>>150143778So "coding" is pretty much a completely illogical label meant for retarded narcissists to "claim" characters they have no business being associated with? Gotcha. Always struck me as weird why so many of the LGHDTV+ people wanted to identify as villains to begin with, to each their own I guess.
Much of that stuff people describe is just a stereotypical sleazy noble/upper class behavior, which is especially apparent with Scar or Jafar. All in all "queer-coded" is just how liberals say "looks/acts like a faggot" and somehow get away with it(just like they get away with calling homosexuals queers)
>>150143645Jafar is just a typical middle eastern sex pest
>>150143858this is just about coding; none of them really are or are claimed to be. i'd say scar also qualifies because jeremy irons leaned to hard into his effeteness that he half-convinced himself scar was secretly fruity.>>150143922no? maybe you should learn to read instead of making up nonsense to have a tantrum about. you can code any character with any recognizable demograhpic trait.
>>150143579The funny part is that they're basically saying gay stereotypes are true. The entire LGBT movement seems almost entirely based on stereotypes.
>>150143914>Fujos see what they want to see.ftfy
>>150143922Exactly. "coding" is a weasel word for a fags.
>>150143923they get away with it because everyone with a brain knows hollywood has used gay stereotypes for villains for many decades. it's not secret information.>>150143938>using a stereotype in fiction to describe something else means you believe a stereotype is trueuh huh
>>150143938wow timmy's got the gays figured out!
>>150143626>ursula is a drag queen homageAn homage to Divine, specifically, who IIRC was considered to voice her before his passing put the kibosh on that idea.
>>150143978>because everyone with a brain knows hollywood has used gay stereotypes for villains for many decadesOr maybe you're just trying to see things where there are none because you've been mindbroken by the internet and college into schizophrenically seeing gay stereotypes everywhere when "this is a classic evil aristocrat/advisor/some other kid of an upper class person(arrogant, extravagant and vain, schemer)" would be a sufficient and more internally consistent explanation.
In fairness half of those are designed by a gay guy and/or based on a literal Drag Queen. However out of fairness it's not like they included all his villains because only a retard would say Gaston is queer-coded. At the end of the day coding is mostly just claiming nonexclusive stereotypes or vibes as allusions to something greater. Basically because these villains in musicals have pomp, vanity, and flamboyance they're queer-coded.
>>150143835At one point in the Hercules cartoon show, there was going to be an episode where Hades and Demeter were going to court over custody over Persephone, but it ended up not getting made. That's probably not true, just what I keep reading on the internet.
The funny thing is that queer-coded villains tend to be popular among LGBT audiences.
>>150143579Bruh Scar has always been the most gay coded, looks at his nails, quivering lips, eyeshadow, preening himself...
>>150143579Ursula is the only one I get because she's literally based on a real drag queen. Most "-coded" shit is just retarded teenage faggots projecting themselves onto characters they like because I guess they can't enjoy them otherwise.
>>150143579Don't know about the top guy. Jafar was very clearly hetero from wanting Jasmine. Scar was in no way homo. Hades married his niece. Ursula is ambiguous as far as I remember.>>150145824>Bruh Scar has always been the most gay coded, looks at his nails, quivering lips, eyeshadow, preening himself...That's not gay, that's being a fucking cat.
>>150145892>eyeshadow AND black nails like he got a pedicurehe's gay
"queer-coded" is such a cringe term
>OP at a perfectly ordinary singles' bar
>>150145945It works for Disney, because they had a gay dude writing tons of their songs for actual years. Part of Your World and Poor Unfortunate Souls were two of them.
https://youtu.be/sjH7BcigSn0?t=60coding in a nutshell
>>150145935>eyeshadow AND black nails>he's gayCosmetic products don't exist in the african desert. That's his natural shit. Scar ain't gay. You don't get voiced by Jeremy Irons and be a fag.
>>150143835Didn't Scar have a kid?
>>150143579Coded what?>Jafar spent half the movie wanting to fuck Jasmine>Scar fucked one of the lioness's and had a kid for the sequel>Hades is married, and possibly the most monogamous of all the major Greek gods, also how is a sleazy salesman "queer coded?">Ursula is based on a drag queen because the artists thought to themselves, what is really fucking scary to look at?I cannot figures out how in the fuck Ratcliffe is supposed to be anything, he never wants to fuck anybody the whole movie. He wants to find gold and be rich. That's queer coding? Or was it the want to kill all the natives and then dig for gold, is that a standard queer trait that codes him?
>>150146318>I cannot figures out how in the fuck Ratcliffe is supposed to be anythingMaybe it's the bows in his hair.
>>150146318The the native genocide thing, total gay givaway. It's how they used to identify closeted gays back in the old days.
>>150143579>queer coded. you people really need to neck yourselves
>150145935You can be effeminate and straight.
>>150143922"X-coded" is the politically correct way to say someone is a stereotypical example of their group>He likes watermelon, fried chicken, and grape Kool-aid, he's African American-codedIn other words, to use their terminology, "coded" is problematic
