What do you think of the 'Redeemed Megatron' plot idea?
>>150156212I liked it... partially. I respect the decision to make Megatron aware that he is beyond mercy and there is nothing he can do that will balance his karma, but he still decided to do good till his very end. How he accepted his death sentence. I liked how even after saving an entire alternate universe, he still wasn't worthy of opening the Matrix. He might have changed for real, but some actions are beyond forgiveness and I like how the comic remembered that... most of the time.I strongly disliked how many prominent Autobots became friends with him. Doubt turned to respect turned to trust? Sure. But friendship? Fuck that.
>>150156212I loved it. IDW Megatron is one of my favorite adaptations of the character
>>150156212My biggest issue with it, aside from the tumblrfest MTMTE became, was what sparked Megatron's change of heart; Bumblebee's death. It felt like such a random and inconsequential event that shouldn't even have registered as a blip on Megatron's radar, and yet it was enough to undo millions of years worth of abhorrent thoughts and actions.
>>150156212Its fucking gay and lame and I will not entertain itPox upon idw writing team
>>150156562Why does James Roberts hate heterosexuality so much? Seriously asking.
>ultra magnus in the med chair for the last shots of TFPKWAB
>>150156826>KWABI don't know what this means.
>>150156544Bee being the catalyst for Megatron seeing the error of his ways was bizzare. It should've been someone that wa more close to him like if Soundwave died
>>150156917The only person whose death would have made sense for this is Optimus, but obviously can't have that stick.
>>150156850Kek What A Bitch
>>150156936It's even stranger because later on when Ravage dies, Megatron actually has a more emotional response to it compared to how he did for BeeHim switching sides because Bee died always felt like it was his way of dodging the death penalty for one reason or another in some long scheme. But it being the legitimate reason for it is just a weird choice. Especially since Bee and Megatron really didn't have many times together vs him and Optimus knowing each other since pre-great war
>>150156212I dislike that most of his good work was done off screen in another universe. I dislike that he and Optimus never got to meet again and Optimus never got to see that Megatron had become a better bot
Well?
>>150156212Megatron should never be sympathetic. We can have other villains for that.
Its fine now and then. Just not a regular basis.
>>150156850Kek what a bozo
>>150157576Hasbro gave up pushing Windblade.
>>150157816They really did. She hasn't even made a cameo in the Skybound run yet
>>150156998>his way of dodging the death penaltyThat came him saying "I know the jury has unanimously called for my immediate death, but I'm to dust off this ancient loophole to instead sentence myself to a very long quest"
>>150157860And it worked. Even though the LL was subjugated to horrors beyond comprehension later down the lineBut it worked
>>150157843Windblade was never really popular, her figures didn't sell well either.
I miss how hard they used to push Windblade because ultimately no one really liked her despite being created by the fansI do like her VTOL alt mode though
>>150158100Know what the fans also created? Victorion. The fans shouldn't be given power.
>>150158156Victorion crashed and burned immediately. Even ignoring their characterization, that color scheme is absolutely abysmal and a pain to the eyesWindblade at least had a design that was pleasing to the eye and a characterization (Though, barely one) that was at least friendly
>>150158206Remember when Mairghread Scott pissed off the alphabet crowd by explaining Windblade and Chromia's relationship was purposefully written to be familial instead of amorous because she based them on her own relationship with her sister?Yeah, that was great.
>>150158156I dread Sea Creature Shockwave.
>>150158206>Even ignoring their characterizationThe only component of Vixtorion that ever truly mattered was Pyra Magna, and everybody hated her for her anti-Optimus rhetoric (which got passed onto Slide when they realized hateful characters don't sell toys, which Slide didn't have). As for Windblade, her problem was she was a completely different character in almost all her appearances, no consistency whatsoever, so people don't really know what kind of character she's supposed to be.
>>150158272That whole thing was just hilarious. Even in the Windblade ongoing it was clear as day that Windblade and Chromia only saw each other as nothing more than sisters.People just... misinterpreted what was a blatant family bond as something completely different. It's the usual shipping of "these two characters are close that must mean they're fucking on the daily" despite clearly being just friends
>>150158327And that in my opinion is why Windblade failed. She was all design but not characterization. Which sure left her as a blank slate for writers to go ham and create their own characterization and personalityBut you need a consistency. Even in the many different versions of Optimus, he still has some form of consistencyLike really, what IS Windblade's character?
>>150158383Even in IDW-G1 she was all the place. She was introduced as some kind of badass warrior and then next you see her she's scared and naive towards Cybertron as a whole.
>>150158334Chromia literally went full terrorist and set off bombs that killed Cybertronians just to "scare" Windblade into returning to Caminus.Whoever thought this idea made sense doesn't deserve to work in the industry.
>>150158418They really needed a character sheet for Windblade that wasn't just her design. There was just so many conflicting personalities for her that she just switched around issue to issueLike I feel why they made her less of a badass and more this meek naive bot was because Chromia was basically THE badass. But walking her back after her first appearance showed her to be competent was just weird. She went from competent to incompetent to learning how to be competent. Which would've been an interesting narrative is she didn't start as one
>>150158470The best part about Windblade/Chromia shippers is how they just clearly ignore the fact that Chromia is a fucking terroristLike sh did that just to make Windblade go back to Caminus and they can be together again. That's textbook toxic lesbian pairing and yet every Windblade/Chromia pairing is just sweet lovey dovey nonsense
So I found out the Chinese actively fan translate new issues
>>150158480It does demonstrate how IDW's writers werent taking the bigger picture into account when they introduced new characters. A lack of consistency made it difficult for them to transcend the comic without the kind of big marketing push Hasbro planned for Windblade from the getgo.Even Nautica, arguably IDW's breakout character behind Windblade, only got one shifty retool figure and will likely never receive another.
>>150158517All this despite the fact Chromia and Ironhide clearly had SOMETHING going on in the comic, and I'm disappointed it didn't go anywhere.
>>150158576I feel IDWs ultimate folly in the later years definitely came from when they had to rush EVERYTHING due to their license running out. The final "season" if you will of IDWs run felt incredibly rushed and went at such a breakneck speed that it barely had time to breathe
>>150156212I like the concept most when he performs self-exile never to be heard from again like in Prime, it's either that or death, highlighting Megatron's crimes this much then suddenly deciding someone like him is still not below redemption is baffling.
>>150158622Are you talking about the first IDW continuity or the second one.The first one, yeah, you could tell they were panicking to wrap up everything they could as soon as possible in time for the reboot, and it was sloppy and unsatisfying as hell. Then they ended up dragging their feet for so long in the reboot that it ended up happening all over again when they straight up lost the license.
>>150158561It's such a shame how shafted Nautica got. Especially since between her and Windblade, she actually had a consistent characterBut instead Hasbro put all their faith and belief into Windblade despite the fact that she had the most inconsistent characterizationsI'd say of the IDW characters, Nautica and Drift deserve more of a push than Windblade. At least until they can form an actual concrete characterization and personality for WIndblade
>>150158688First. The ending was completely sloppy all because they had to end it before the rebootWhich honestly made it even worse because the reboot was borderline garbage. The fact that IDW1 had scrap together an end just for IDW2 pisses me off
>>150158694>she actually had a consistent characterPeople largely turned against Nautica after the whole "erased her memories of Skidds to deal with his death" thing. She was pretty unsalvageable after that. Then the reboot turned her from a perky high a functioning autist to a monotone low-functioning autist (whom Road Rage lusted after but she didn't reciprocate) and people just stopped caring.Even the third party companies won't go near Nautica now. Someone was retooling their IDW Rodimus figure into her but it never got made.
>>150158749You could say that her consistent character trait is that she's consistently autisticI still can't believe she did that though. Jesas fucking christ Roberts
>>150158561>Even Nautica, arguably IDW's breakout character behind Windblade,No, that's Drift, who came out way better than Windblade did.
>>150158785Roberts did some pretty weird shit, like making Drift and Ratchet a couple at the end, that's a Wapanese teenager and an old man.
>>150158828it's even weirder because for like the entirety of LL, Drift and Rodimus had a whole "will they/won't they' dynamicJust for Drift to... hook up with Ratchet? Drift and Ratchet don't even interact that much compared to Drift and Rodimus where the hell did that come from
>>150158880They had a whole mini-series together.Same way Tangle and Whisper ended up lesbians in IDW's Sonic comic.
>>150158898And that was pretty much the only time they interacted in a meaningful wayMeanwhile Rodimus and Drift have the entirety of MTMTE. Hell even before then
>>150158923Actually part of Drift's backstory was that Ratchet met him pre-Deadlock and tried to guide him on a better path. It's not much but it's still something.
>>150158946Still an odd choice for a pairing. Though not the first odd pairing choice in IDW
>>150158828It was pretty weird he threw such a shitfit over learning people were growing to like the perceived couple of Swerve and Velocity, to the point he went out of his way to tell people there was nothing going in between them, which I still don't buy.
>>150159006There was clearly something brewing (heh) between Swerve and VelocityYou don't make this a panel and then act like they're "just friends" shut the fuck up Roberts. Starscream can lie better than you
>>150156212They didn't walk it back so I'll always like it for that
>>150156212I really hate when comics take the main villain who's been doing terrible things for years and try to redeem them and they just join up with the heroes. I won't have it.
>>150159201Yes yes we all thought Kevin becoming a good guy was stupid.
>>150158383Windblade is a literal normies thrusted into IDW TF verse that ends up trying to keep everything from imploding because of everyone's bullshit colliding all at once and having that Herculean task complicated by falling in love with Starscream and knowing that Starscream's love for you if the only thing keeping him from burning everything to the ground.
>>150159065>>150159006Was Velocity even in the reboot?
>Just found SS86 Mixmaster at Walmart this past week and I'm able to finish DevastatorHell yeah
>>150159229I did like Windblade and Starscream's relationship. Windblade being scared of the fact that she's falling in love with someone who, by all accounts, is as untrustworthy as they come, Both something she learned and something she definitely heard from others who have known Starscream for way longer than she hasAnd Starscream downright refusing his feelings for her by masking it all under layers upon layers of his won insecurities and bravado
>>150159264Nope.>>150159272Lucky bastard. I'm still waiting for Pulse to send me my Scavenger.
>>150159264No. Her last comic appearance other from IDW1 was in a TF crossover mini with terminatorShe's one of the few IDW-exclusive characters
>>150159272I just went to my nearby two Targets and one Walmart today in search of Mixmaster and Scavenger, no dice. Just tons of Red Alerts and leftover Devastation Optimus.I'd settle for just a Mixmaster at this point so at least my Devastator would be able to stand up.
>>150159272Lucky...
>>150159333I went to Target and impulse bought SS86 Perceptor just for Ramhorn and Ratbat. I want to know what cassettes the leaked SS86 Soundwave will come with. Probably Laserbeak and Ravage, right?
>>150156212I like the idea, but the problem with it is that TF (and the fandom) is too steeped in Anglocentric perspectives on morality for it to be believable. The world and characters live in a sci-fi setting informed and shaped by Judaism and Christianity as IRL influences. Megatron has quite literally gone past the point of salvation. If things were shaped and informed by Hinduism or Buddhism, I could see it being met with greater reception both in-universe and among the fans.
Hmm. Might have been neat.https://news.tfw2005.com/2025/09/01/transformers-rise-e3-2020-trailer-available-online-545958
>>150160942How about they re-release WFC/FOC. I miss Escalation
>>150159065We were truly robbed.
>>150163794One of many robberiesSometimes I wish the reboot never happened so IDW could actually have a non-rushed conclusion
>>150160656Anon you dont want itYou dont want Jeetscream to be realIt would be funny but you dont want him to go MEGATRON HAS FALLEN I AM STARSCREAM NEW LEADER DECEPTICONS REEDEM YOUR NEW LEADER
I know the current Skybound run hasn't been going on for too long (only 20+ issues for the mainline Transformers run)but do you think it will ever reach the same amount of depth as the IDW run, with stuff like pre-war Cybertron?
>>150164821This run doesnt need to make shitload of lore cause it has more heart in it than 15 years of idwRarely does a comic make me say lets fucking go outloudMegatron is also menacing as fuck, very few words and yet he stopped a civil war by simply appearing
>>150156212I am frankly sick of seeing villains getting redeemed. What's next GI Joe gonna have Cobra Commander open an orphanage and puppy farm. This is hack garbage.
