Did you enjoy the pilot?
Kiana Khansmith is writing the second episode; probably has it fully written by now, since she was writing it back in June. I wonder if she has plans for a whole ongoing series or if it will be a mini-series thing.
Do you think the next episodes will keep just being animatic or will they be actually animated?
If the show ends up actually being animated, I think the three options would be:
>Kiana tries to do it herself (i.e. Helluva Boss)
>Kiana uses the online popularity of the pilot to sell it to a streaming service (i.e. Infinity Train)
>Kiana goes to Glitch (i.e. Knights of Guinevere)

I think the concept itself has potential, and I thought the detransformation gag was good.
But the humor and writing in general was pretty basic.
A lot of indie shows are targeted towards adults but written like kid cartoons, just with more cuss words.

i liked it more then most of those indie animated pilots on the internet, it was a bit buzz-wordy (whole black girl magic thing) but felt like it could be an actual show instead of just ‘ooh the internet would like this’, it’s charming and i liked the charecter designs. Much better than most indie pilots posted on youtube. Reminds me of bee and puppycat

I don't hate the character design, but the writing and characterization as it stands is just the bog-standard subversion and lampshading of the magical girl genre.

If she spent more time fleshing out why Aika doesn't want to be a magical girl, it could be good, but right now, "ugg, I don't like being a magical girl because girls my age love being magical girls" is not a compelling reason to want to see more.

Agreed. I honestly hope they focus more on this in the following episodes, because if this show takes place in a world where villains actually exist and are an actual threat to people, then if Aika's reason for not wanting to save people from them is just "I don't feel like it", then it makes her kind of an unlikable person?
I think the ways this could be solved would be to either just give her a good reason to not want to be a Magical Girl, or have it be that she just never faced an actual serious threat up to this point so she's underestimating how important her own job is.

No. I'm tired of subversions, and I'm tired of western creators mistaking insincerity for nuance, humour or frankly entertainment.

Let it die.
