>>150159094It really wasn't. It suffered from your standard Hanna Barbera writing problems in that the characters were just the Scooby gang all over again. Doesn't help that they were the focus of the show when kids just wanted to watch Godzilla beat up stuff. The next animated Godzilla show learned from these mistakes and that's why it's far more fondly remembered despite the well being poisoned from the onset for being based on the much more hated 98 film.
>>150159190The thing that bugged me (a lot of others too probably) is that Hanna-Barbera always insisted on having a mascot character, which is what really bit them in the ass with Godzilla. Even if you wanted a main group of human protagonists to follow (which is the usual formula in all Godzilla films) Goji is the mascot, Godzooky was not needed. It's like starting your show with Scrappy-doo as part of the main team. I don't know if it was a lack of talent or they were just scared to break from formula, but trying to just repeat Scooby-Doo constantly was the thing that really screwed Hanna-Barbera up.
