Are there any good comic books ongoing these days? I've been out of the loop for a decade. I enjoyed Waid's Daredevil, Fraction's Hawkeye and Snyder's Batman back in the day. I think all of these series ended with a whimper, but they had decent peaks. I've heard there's a Waid and Samnee Batman & Robin: Year One or something, that looks good.
>>150158915I'm enjoying my bat-books, I'm reading pic-related, Absolute Batman and Batman Dark Patterns and enjoying them all, too bad both Batman & Robin and Dark Patterns are about to end in a couple of months. If you like Fraction, he's the writer on the new Batman #1 that releases this week.
>>150159574Hi shill
Metamorpho
Well, Fraction's Batman run is starting this week(?) so you might enjoy starting that as it comes out. I've never read Fraction so I have no clue what to expect.
>>150159574>>150159683I'm checking the preview right now. Looks promising. I'm not a huge Fraction fan or anything, but the art looks more than passable here.
>>150158915>I've heard there's a Waid and Samnee Batman & Robin: Year One or something, that looks good. It's been great, but it only has two issues left. Worth the read though.
>>150159822Yeah, I wanted to order back issues, but I'm guessing they're out of print and I don't want reprints. Guess I'll wait for the trade. Might pick up this new Batman run. How has the series been? I stopped reading around the time Snyder had Gordon take over. Just couldn't vibe with that.
>>150159907>Might pick up this new Batman run. How has the series been? Are you talking about Batman in-general? They've been doing Hush 2 with Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee the last few months, and if you've read their first Hush, it's pretty much exactly what you'd expect. It's going on hiatus for the Matt Fraction re-launch this month.
>>150159907Not great at all, hopefully the new book is entertaining at the very least.
>>150159683>>150159574>>150159762>>150159907>>150159983Hi again shill
OP here. It's so crazy, because I remember back in like 2012 these threads would have dozens of responses and suggestions. Comics really fell off during the woke years, didn't they? I know it's been a steady decline since the '90s, but there was a brief revival in the early 2010s when nerd culture was popular again. I'm almost nostalgic about it.
>>150158915I'm liking Moon Knight, Nightwing, Batman: Dark Patterns, and Green Arrow.
>>150160661You just aren't allowed to like thing these days. It's 4chan culture
>>150158915>out of the loop for a decadeAbsolute Martian Manhunter finished its first arc and it’s been phenomenal, I also think Absolute Wonder Woman is high quality, Immortal Hulk is a complete series that’s one of my favorites of all time, Invincible finished up pretty strongly, you’ve also got Ryan North’s Fantastic Four which I think has had really strong single issues, Priest’s Deathstroke series was pretty consistently good, I’d also argue King has some good books despite some of the stinkers he’s written, mainly Superman Up in the Sky.
Absolute Batman fucking kicks ass and has one of the funniest panels I’ve ever seen in a comic.
>>150161493I am looking for series with great art, great writing is essential, too, but comics are a visual medium so I need something that really stands out. I've been wanting to go back and read Byrne's X-Men/FF and David's Hulk, for instance. I've also been reading Sin City lately.
>>150161805>Byrne's X-Men>David's Hulk>great art, great writing
>>150162724John Byrne is a good artist. I liked the Dark Phoenix Saga.
>>150161805The standout artists right now are Hayden Sherman (Absolute Wonder Woman, Batman Dark Patterns), Javier Rodriguez (Absolute Martian Manhunter, Defenders), and Dan Mora (half of all DC books). Samnee is also up there of course, but these are some of the newer names you wouldn't be familiar with.
>>150158915Absolute Wonder Woman, Absolute Superman, Absolute Batman, The New Gods. All worth a read. Id suggest getting the 1st volumes of each. They are well worth it.
>>150158915Why does DC insist on putting Dick in the short pants? It's not like they force Batman to wear purple gloves in his earliest appearances. He's working out a cave, not a barn. And then they give him the New Look era scale undies instead of the classic briefs.
>>150158915I don't like Waid's comics.
>>150158915Batman Dark Patterns has been the best Batbook in the last 10 years, possibly moreGreen Lantern and Aquaman are light readsNorth's FF is fun, episodic storytelling in a way that unfortunately too rare these days, although his event this year has been disappointingMoon Knight has been very solid, although it's a victim of relaunchitisThe Power Fantasy, w0rldtr33 and Rogue Sun are all good books that I'm reading outside the big two, and Space Ghost and Thundercats are guilty pleasures
>>150161493>Ryan North’s Fantastic Four>Superman Up in the Sky>>150164633>North's FF>Moon KnightThese are awful.
>>150158915>Are there any good comic books ongoing these days?Yes.
>>150165322which ones?
>>150159658Shame it ended
>>150158915The enjoyed the last two Superman issues. Also Absolute Batman.
>>150165386That’s subjective and different from whom you ask. Ask /co/ and they say they hate everything by not reading anything.
>>150160661>but there was a brief revival in the early 2010s when nerd culture was popular againMarvel movies were popular, not nerd culture. In fact, nerd culture has been dead since then. Almost no one buys comics or watches cartoons. Few people buy WH40k or play single-player video games anymore. DC Comics is barely above the brink of bankruptcy. Even Batman barely sells 60k–70k copies per issue these days, that would have been cancelation numbers mere 15 years ago. There hasn't been a single AAA immersive sim video game since Prey. The only metroidvania that people still play occasionally is Hollow Knight. South Park isn't funny anymore, it's pure TDS & propaganda now. The Simpsons and almost every other show we grew up with that hasn't been canceled yet is terrible. There haven't been any new great animes or mangas released in the last ~10 years, and the anime fandom is getting older and less interested in this hobby, it's mostly 25+ y.o millennials now who still reminisce about the first time they watched NGE.
>>150162872>The standout artists right now are Hayden Sherman (Absolute Wonder Woman, Batman Dark Patterns)Kek>Javier Rodriguez (Absolute Martian Manhunter, Defenders)Lol>and Dan Mora (half of all DC books)LmaoI'd rather read something from the porno tracers like Greg Land than anything that came out from under the pencil of these talentless hacks and nepobabies.>SamneeOut of all those you mentioned, he's the only somewhat decent artist, although he's been consistently worse since Daredevil. But even he's just a poor man's imitator of Cooke (PBUH), Sale (PBUH, too) & Timm's styles.
>>150160661>woke yearsah, you're one of those...
I'm just fatigued man. Superhero comics are the same shit over and over.
>>150160661>revival in the early 2010Thanks to things like the new 52 but no one here wants to admit that
>>150164275shit taste
>>150164275Good taste.
>>150159907>I stopped reading around the time Snyder had Gordon take over. Just couldn't vibe with that. It's a shame they did so little with it. I thought it was an awesome idea, but there was just absolutely nothing memorable about it besides the concept itself. Then just when I thought it might start to get interesting, it ended.
>>150166492>I just read capeshitThat’s a (you) problem
>>150158915Read batman miniseries it can't make it easier for you.Go after batman: reptillian, catwoman lonely lady, Batman: Damned, Batman: The Dark Prince Charming, Batman: Earth One, Batman: Three Jokers, etc...
>>150166295Javier Rodriguez is the best one there.
>>150167350>catwoman lonely ladyHoly fucking kek
>>150158915I recently caught up to Absolute Martian Manhunter. It's alright. The art is really good, and the story is kind of interesting, but it's not amazing.
>>150158915No
>>150158915I can confirm that North's Fantastic Four, Spurrier's Flash, Adams' Green Lantern, Waid's World's Finest, MacKay's Moon Knight, Pepose's Space Ghost, Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate X-Men, and The Ultimates are not good, but given that you liked all those mediocre comics you listed, you may enjoy some of these as well.
>>150166492Yeah. They stopped taking risks by the 2010s.
>>150161739Batman AF?
>>150158915No!
>>150170847Yes.
We can't have recommendation threads on /co/ anymore because either the OP or someone else screeches like an autist whenever you post something recent or ongoing saying "Noooo!!! Its fucking shit, you shill!!!!" or something of the like. We have too many shitposters on here trying too hard to fit in, or outrage casuals who don't read anything just looking for a echo chamber
>>150171482Ignore the shitposters.
>>150171482Too many people praise outright garbage too.
>>150166429Not a complete faggot? Thanks.
>>150166492Yeah, and?
Fuck no.
>>150158915there are none.
