There is actually alot more competition than you think, the downside is everyone is just competing over a pretty small pool. The only people reading indie comics are the die-hard comic fans. Going that route means you better have a stand out as fuck ideas to attract the normie fans that will pay for your stuff. The reality is you'll be operating at a loss for several books (especially if you're switching genres) till ONE manages to get popular after maybe 10 years if you're lucky. Going indie you better be in love with the game of making comics cause you will not get a return for a long ass time.
