I miss this show so much. Unfortunately I am not an OG fan, I started watching around the end of the final season and seeing people so into it again nowadays is awesome. I dont think its new popularity will amount to anything great but There really is nothing like Moral Orel.

Imagine youre making a show and the higher ups want it darker and when you do exactly what they said to do you get fucked over for it. I dont think Orel would have got many more seasons even if it was greenlit again. MAYBE 1 extra season. its a damn shame Beforal Orel didnt go anywhere

They did a pretty good job wrapping up the story. I do miss it, though.

Its insane how mentally fucked they made all the characters in season 3. in the end as things fell apart even Shapey tuned out way better having Block around to bounce off of. Clay was such a mindfuck character and Bloberta was just a straight bitch. Im glad Orel kept his faith and stayed a good man and didnt let his dad drag him down.
>>
I kinda hate how it got a huge following over the last two years because all the new fans came straight from tumblr
>>

I thought it came from Tiktok. Some clips went viral on there or something.

So Dino apparently wrote a script for a potential feature since Carolyn Lawrence was pestering him to do one

>I AM DROWING
I became a mountain goats fan because of this show. Unfortunately i later found out the fanbase for them was infested by a bunch of teenage girls and faggots because of some soi-ass writer liked using their songs in his books. Something about a girl with cancer or something. Girls ruin everything.
>>
>>150168760
If it helps, I only discovered the show within the last year due to having a newfound appreciation for stop motion animation.
It really was a fantastic show, and I'm disappointed it was killed off in such a way and that there won't be anything that will come as close as it did.

I find that hard to believe. They're dad music.

Have you seen Anomolisa? Dino produced it.

This was like in 2015 so maybe things have changed but the author's name is John Green and he and his brother were youtbers or podcaster, i don't remeber exactly what, they were big on tumblr bwck.when that was a thing, but he started writing books at some point. The guy mostly writes books that appeal to teenage girls and the guy names.the band as an inspiration and apparently references them in his slop so his fanbase became fanatical about them.

>watching moral orel
>its the episode where he fills a pastry bag with his own semen and impregnates a bunch of women
>it's treated like a joke
>THE VERY NEXT EPISODE
>the nurse has a panic attack over one of her teddy bears "mounting" her, the school teacher has a mental breakdown while she masturbates to the memory of getting raped by the ice cream truck man, and the librarian plots to take over the town
>it's all played straight with the only bits of humor coming from the reverend's interview occasionally intersecting with the episode's plot
i'll never forget how long i just stared at the screen after it was over, completely dumbfounded at what i just witnessed, i knew the show got dark at times but this was legit uncomfortable

The last time I went to a Mountain Goats concert, it was mostly people in their 30s I wanna say. An equal amount of dudes and chicks though.

best show on adult swim, right after athf, the boondocks, venture bros, and squid billies
>>
>>150168760
Adult Swim is run in such a weird way. They allow near ultimate freedom when it comes to writing episodes and will ultimately approve any script with few exceptions, and just give notes that you, as the creator, are free to ignore. Dino had an "autism" moment when sending in the scripts and got a note about how the rape episode didn't have enough jokes, and he just made fun of the guy giving the note instead of adding in more jokes or taking his legitimate note seriously. Like Moral Oral is ultimately a comedy, and it pretty much switched genres midway through its run. Which is really cool. But Dino really should have the basic social skills to hear out the executives sometimes. Dino did go a little further than what Adult Swim was comfortable with. And honestly, Adult Swim was pretty chill. Like no other channel would even give this show a chance, let alone allow it to get so crazy. I used to hate on Adult Swim for cancelling Moral Orel, but I get it. And honestly, this might sound crazy as I am a HUGE Moral Orel fan, but I think it was good they cancelled it before they could have made the planned five seasons.

Because (Spoilers) they originally wanted to make Miss Censordoll an Evil Witch who could actually control people. And it was going to be revealed that she forced Clay to shoot Orel. Which would be bullshit. The show is so much better with it being Clay's fault for being a piece of shit with bad coping mechanisms. Letting him off the hook like that would be bullshit. Also, I don't like the idea of this very grounded show having any kind of supernatural elements. I really don't like the first episode for that reason. I really only hate three episodes and don't consider them head canon. The pee episode for being too stupid, and the masturbation episode for basically making Orel into a rapist.
>>

>he show is so much better with it being Clay's fault for being a piece of shit with bad coping mechanisms.
Its equally Bloberta's fault
>>
>>150169103
Interesting fun fact. Dan Harmon tried to help Dino out and pitched an idea to Adult Swim about making a new show about Orel as an adult who is a disgruntled stop motion animator living in Hollywood or some shit. And Adult Swim liked the idea. But Dino didn't like that future for Orel and turned it down.

I like this anecdote so much. Becouse it shows Dan Harmon's talent for coming up with interesting ideas and how he tried to do this to help out his buddy. But it also shows Dino's artistic integrity to turn down work to preserve his vision for the characters.
>>
I thought it was sweet when Orel wrapped up his stop motion set up to give to his brother
>>
>>150172812
Her actions definitely had a hand in play with how Clay turned out. But I don't think they share equal blame. Bloberta felt immense social pressure to get married and have children in her heavily religious 1950s* community. Her family treated her like shit except for her weak-willed father, who can pay her lip service but would never take action to actually help her.

Her actions were desperately trying to find a man and encouraging him to drink at a wedding. She really had no way of knowing this would lead to a lifetime of alcoholism. Both Clay and Bloberta where broken people. She also pressured him into marriage after one really shitty date. If Clay wasn't so fucked up he would have turned her down and she would have found a better man to marry, like maybe Officer Paper Mouth. Although he is flawed too, he is a much better man than Clay.

*I think it's pretty clear that the show is supposed to take place in the 1950s. I do like this one little slip-up no one else has noticed. There's an episode where Orel puts some money in the collection plate. During the close-up of the bill, you can clearly see it's Nixon on the bill. Meaning the show would take place in at least the 1970s. Ofcourse, this is just one gag/slip up. But it's still kind of funny.

i like the idea that moralton was bascially time-locked to the 1950s and everywhere else progressed passed them
>>
>>150173135
Moralton literally being stuck in the past would explain why the Missing Link was there.
>>
>>150173066
Would they have heavy metal like Multiple Godgasm in the 50s? And I think Clay mentions a musician at some point from the 70s, though I forgot the exact quote.
>>
>>150168760
It is the show that Bojack horseman thinks it is.
>>
>>150173647
I don't think he mentioned a musician. I think you are thinking about how he had a record called "inoffensive black comedy". And the guy sounded like Bill Cosby (Ofcourse this episode was made before we knew everything about Bill Cosby). So they referenced a celebrity stylistically but not by name. The same thing goes for Godgasm. Referencing something stylistically out of era without referencing something that is directly out of era. This is a fun direction to think about. Can we find more "evidence" for the "locked in the 1950s" theory?
>>
>>150174506
At the very least I remember Putty saying to Clay that "the beer goggles you're wearing right now make crucifixion look like Marilyn Monroe" when they're fighting at Putty's. I could've sworn Clay brings up Lee Harvey Oswald at some point too. For some reason I thought he mentioned some musician instead, lel
>>
>>150174542
Marilyn Monroe was a sex symbol in both the 50s and 60s. But that Lee Harvey Oswald reference (made in the episode where Dooughy and Orel learn how to shoot) is definitely a solid 60s reference. So this theory is starting to have some legs.

I kinda only watched the show randomly and one night it was the piss drinking episode, didn't watch another episode for like 6 months.

It's mostly not worth watching, if I'm being totally honest. The episodes that are good are fucking insanely good though.
The last season is ultra kino.
I confess I only heard about it in like 2014, started having a second wind around then for some reason. Adult Swim probably starting airing reruns, if I had to hazard a guess.
Fuck, I kind of miss watching TV. Nowadays I just plug in my HDMI cable to my laptop, you know, the pussy dryer special.

>Having any supernatural elements
>God is in the intro
>Morel has been shown to defy physics if done "for God."
>Literally met Jesus in the form of a dog
Bringing it back around would be funny. Like "BTW, we all had fun tonight but there is a God, Jesus is His only begotten Son, and witches are real." I'm assuming Doughy was eventually going to be a serial killer based on times he felt better after killing animals. So yeah, went out with a big bang. They clearly didn't entirely hate it because one: they made an event out of it, and still did Frankenhole. Frankenhole even mocked the situation with an episode where Frankenstein the monster wins a scariest monster competition by trauma dumping on the judges.

I feel like MO can stay alive like how OTGW stays alive, by people who make stuff being inspired. By people who go to message boards and talk about it. By streaming services ramping up their algorithms to get this auto starting after other shows end. Because Moral Orel may have just been fluff at the beginning, it ends as the most real TV show I have ever seen and possibly the best too.

Moral Orel is to cartoons what Earthbound is to video games
>>
>>150174506
Dude, the real Bill Cosby was part of the point. Redd Foxx swore and got racy by was a cool guy. Bill Cosby appealed to white middle America but was a monster. Dino worked in a line about "Give 'em the real Bill Cosby, not that friendly one with Jell-O," in the song Never Let a Lady Know You Care. It was an open secret that no one looked into until Hannibal Burress made a joke and a career out of it.

Davie and Goliath has been mocked for ages.
Moral Orel would have gotten old really fast if that's all it remained, but fortunately it went a lot deeper than that

I was on Tumblr as a Moral Orel fan back in 2012 up around 2016 when I finally abandoned the godforsaken platform. It was a small, cringe, but ultimately restrained and loyal community. The new Tumblr fandom is second or even third generation at minimum, metastasized from TikTok. This concludes my Moral Orel fandom history lesson.

They just cut so many plotlines tho. Adult swim cucked us. Not as bad as Frisky Dingo ateast

Those were two different seasons. But ya after how good Nature turned out Adult swim decided they wanted to focus more on the Dark storylines, then after "alone" they got pissed at it for getting too dark and cut the thirs season in half. At least Nurse Bendy and Joe got their resolution

>Because (Spoilers) they originally wanted to make Miss Censordoll an Evil Witch who could actually control people. And it was going to be revealed that she forced Clay to shoot Orel

Pretty sure this has been deconfirmed multiple times in these threads. IIRC Dino said that Censordoll's private model of the town and her fondling the pieces representing Clay and Orel in the woods was not supposed to be about her having supernatural powers/being a devil in plain sight causing evil upon the townspeople. It was supposed to represent her God complex, which she developed because her mom was an equally monstrous and evil woman, who had Censordoll sterilized as an infant so she could never have kids (also, why she she was Bloberta's age but looked like an 80 year old). And the Clay/Orel pieces in the forest were due to Orel having told a lot of people about the hunting trip, so she had them placed there because she was anal retentive about having her model town reflect current goings on.
