Post times when a show contradicts itself and shits on what was established before.

In the new season of Gumball, Richard is stated to be 30 years old. This makes zero sense as "The Laziest"mentions that Richard beat Larry in a lazy competion in the Summer of 83. Also "The Line" has him being a OG fan of the Star Wars movies and watched the premieres and Holiday specials.
>>
that's called flowing timeline
>>
>>150169740
It's the same situation with Homer originally was in the class if 1977, then he was college age in the mid 90s, now it's the early 2010s.

Richard was wearing a Nirvana shirt when Gumball was born in 2002, now that's 2015. Richard is now only a few years older than season 1 Gumball.
>>
>>150169740
Well this could be a number of things.
A. Richard is canonically an idiot and saying the wrong age
B. The writers / VA meant to say '30s' because Ben said their canon age was 39 on twitter a year or two ago.
C. Maybe the writers meant to say '40'? Since that'd make sense since they're aging up?
>>
>>150169740
I would have thought by now that people would realize that the Gumball writers purposely fuck with their own continuity because it’s obvious they selectively pick and choose what gets retconned or not on the whim of “funny or meaningful in the moment”.
The Final from Season 2 was made entirely on the idea of shitting on continuity with the ending just resetting everything at the end right after establishing what the consequences of hard continuity would bring to the show.
Not that I think that’s an inherit good thing or anything since I think it’s a form of insincerity, even if they have a meta dimension ready to justify every retcon so far if they wanted.
And also I wouldn’t take your pic seriously anyway because the ages are largely irrelevant.
>>
Fairly Oddparents is full of these.

In Owl House, at the end of the 2nd Ep of S2, Hunter arrives at Alador's factory saying how the Emperor wants to buy all of Alador's currently made Abominations and will continue to pay him for every Abomination he sends straight over to the Emperor's Coven HQ. You're led to believe that Hunter is this brilliant mastermind who works for the Emperor but its revealed later, and entirely subtextually, and not even just that subtextually OFF SCREEN that right after this, Odalia spoke to the Emperor, alone, the Emperor went and told Odalia everything about his plan right down to "im gonna literally kill everyone in the boiling isles" and Odalia still wanted Amity to consider joining the Emperor's coven despite how this suggests if she already knew the Emperor's plan then Amity would be marked for the Day of Unity so you're led to believe that when everyone was killed on the Day of Unity, the Emperor's Coven would be reborn under Odalia despite the fact how if everyone is dead the only people who would make up the new coven would be the Blight family name or that is still a big implication that Belos wouldnt just kill them as well

No one talks about the fact how there is a huge implication how Odalia not only knew about the day of Unity and what it was about but her family was "spared" which if Belos wanted to kill everyone why give Odalia virtually an empty kingdom full of corpses

I find the story hilarious in a stupid way but its riddled with plotholes. It make me think if this show went 6 seasons Dana was gonna really consider leaning deep into making Odalia a proper villain.

>Gumball went from an underdog and normal kid without powers in a fantastical world that punishes him for existing, to a low tier reality warper that will literally die if he stops being a jerk for too long like Roger from American Dad and doesn't get punished enough
This is not even flanderization anymore. It's a completely opposite character. I don't even hate modern Gumball, in fact I rewatch mostly it over classic Gumball, but I understand why this is so frustrating to people.
>>
>Richard is now nearly a zoomer
Grim
>>
>>150171733
>that will literally die if he stops being a jerk for too long
Is this a real episode that I don't remember or something you're pulling out of your ass to make up reasons to hate the later seasons?
>>
Family Guy does it every episode.
>>
>>150171915
The Test has Gumball under extraordinary stress as Tobias becomes the main character (which ironically he still isn’t). I don’t remember if Gumball’s actually dying but he gets fucked up from it either way until Tobias jumps the shark.
At first glance it’s called The Test because Gumball takes an online personality test but second glances might make it look like the real test was Gumball reassuming his role as the king of jackasses.

Family Guy had an episode a short while ago where Stewie says his first word that everyone understands and there's an upcoming episode where Lois gets high is shocked to hear him talk.
>>
>>150172074
Okay I remember this episode now.
Yeah it's one of the worst in the series.
>>
>>150171915
I thought he was getting confused with the American Dad episode where Roger had a similar plot
>>
>>150171733
Season 1 Gumball is as different from season 2-3 Gumball as season 2-3 Gumball is to season 5-6 Gumball. Season 1 Gumball was a cinnamon roll and it genuinely hurt seeing him get fucked over. I could understand why they changed him after that, but they really started making him too much like Bloo 2.0
At least in the new season they seem to tone his jerkiness

>>150169845
The problem is that Richard being 30 means Nicole got pregnant when she was 17. I like the idea but it contradicts The Choices.
>>
>>150172195
>Season 1 Gumball was a cinnamon roll and it genuinely hurt seeing him get fucked over. I could understand why they changed him after that
exactly, Gumball's original characterization was too nice to work for the "Universe's Punching Bag" role they wanted him(and to a lesser degree the rest of the family), hence why he became more of a jerk in later seasons as it made him being a punching bag funnier as it feels more deserved

I've finally caught up to all of Gumball. I did this so I could catch up to the rest of /co/ and all their arguments about their CN romance bitching.
Honestly I have no idea why you didn't abandon this show after season 2, they might've never had a breakup episode but man were so many episodes just "it's funny because pain and suffering". Especially this most recent half-season.

In the first SpongeBob Christmas special, Santa Claus was depicted as a live-action man. Later episodes have him animated.
>>

I had delusions that the show would be entirely different from what it eventually turned into way too late into the show when it was airing and so I struck around out of sunk cost.

>>150174233
The Distance was the worst episode, too many homoerotic tones and flanderized the characters to fit the plot. Darwin was always the one who was clingy, not Gumball.
>>
>>150174329
I was tempted to put it lower but
A. The 'close brotherly love' episodes / moments tend to be ones I enjoy the most [even if this one took it a little too far]. "The Origins" is in my top 5 in the whole series
B. There was admittedly some pretty funny gags and references throughout.

>>
>>150174233

>The Distance at B
Those were the worst ones. Carrie is never recovering from the former especially.
>>
>>150174909
The Climb was just really cringy and embarrassing to watch and it's what I imagine most modern-gumball haters see when they think of Gumball.
The Gut was just a really gross episode with an awful way of presenting its moral and I could've lived without seeing it.
The Boring is boring. And Tina is a cunt.
>>
>>150175242
>And Tina is a cunt.
That's always been the point of her.
So are certain characters not allowed to exist?
>>
>>150173417
every new spongebob character design just looks so out of place
>>
>>150175269
>So are certain characters not allowed to exist?
They're allowed to exist, and I'm allowed to not like the episodes they're in.
Besides there's been other appearances I didn't mind her in or thought she was slightly in the right but she was just awful in that episode in particular.
>>
>>150175333
>Besides there's been other appearances I didn't mind her in
List them.
>>
>>150175380
I don't remember the episode names off hand but there's two that come to mind:
>The episode where she was bullying him but it turned out to be a big misunderstanding and they're on better terms.
>The episode where in the intro Tina was chasing him and gave him the chance to take back what he said, and he doubled down.
The latter was ALL Gumball. I don't love Tina but all he had to do was 'lie' for 10 seconds and he'd have avoided the pumbling.
>>
>>150175436
>but it turned out to be a big misunderstanding and they're on better terms
The episode begins and ends with Tina smashing Gumball's face into his food.
>>
>>150174329
>Darwin was always the one who was clingy, not Gumball.
this
i strongly get the feeling there are new writers on board that aren't actually very familiar with the source material they're writing for which was my worst fear going into this new season, since it's been so long.
The same bullshit as Carrie suddenly apparently hating the concept of affection itself and her and Darwin's chemistry being stilted and awkward, and acting as if The Drama, literally one of the last episodes of the show before it went on hiatus, didn't happen.
>>
>>150175566
That's still more 'playful' than practically trying to murder him after school. She has her not awful moments is all I'm saying.
The Boring is an awful moment.
>>
>>150175604
>That's still more 'playful'
And it's me being playful when I trip you in a game of soccer.
There are a lot better ways of being playful and ending the episode by repeating how it started is not one of them.
>>
>>150175636
I'm trying to give a character benefit of doubt and now you're trying to talk me into hating her more?
I'm assuming you're not the same anon as earlier but still, I'm trying to give her a chance.
>>
>>150175666
>I'm trying to give a character benefit of doubt and now you're trying to talk me into hating her more?
Yeah.
>>
>>150175636
no offense but you sound like mr enter. that's the point of tina's character, she's a bitch
what personally bothers ME about the fight is that it didn't need to happen at all. she was already established as being a brutish bitch, instances like the following
>her flipping out all because her sandwich fell on the floor and stuffing gumball in darwin's mouth
>her insulting him over his mom; you cannot argue it was anything else she very clearly was trying to bully him
>she was already associated with jamie
cannot be shrugged off as whatever excuse for her behavior it was at the end of The Fight. I almost wonder if the point was that she was lying and trying to emotionally manipulate Gumball, which I find the funnier option and would explain why they're right back to butting heads in season 2.
>>
>>150175242
>complaining that Tina is a cunt in The Boring while having The Letter in S+ where Carrie is a flanderized cunt
>Tina wasn't even entirely in the wrong in The Boring
Your logic is impressively retarded.
>>
>>150176076
>Tina wasn't even entirely in the wrong
Justify Tina's actions, then.
If she 'wasn't entirely wrong' should be easy.
>>
>>150176133
Easy. Gumball and Darwin ruin her art after ignoring everyone all day and being inconsiderate of the world around them.
>>
>>150176163
And instead of just saying 'hey you ruined my art' and giving them a chance she goes 'I'm going to murder you'?
I'm not inclined to be generous.
>>
>>150176133
Tina was mad because they ignored her when asking them to take precaution of her dinosaur art work that honored her heritage, they then trampled over said piece, then the boys insulted it in confusion when not understanding what it was, and finally Tina expressed that they weren't listening to her at all before announcing that she would beat them.
They threw insults at her heritage instead of stopping and listening because their own hypocritical hubris caught up to them.
>>
>>150176212
She tried to, but they wouldn't listen. Regardless, she still was less of a cunt than Carrie in The Letter.
>>
>>150176341
Hmmm.
Perhaps I owe the episode a rewatch.
If I can get past Molly maybe I'll give it a better understanding.
>>
>>150169964
>because it’s obvious they selectively pick and choose what gets retconned or not on the whim of “funny or meaningful in the moment”.
This is what every comedy writer would do with their shows.
>>
>>150170579
Ain't it weird how nearly all recent Disney shows had rush endings?
>>
>>150171915
>>150172029
I thought it was the episode with Leslie (or Alan) where Gumball had to stop being toxic. I only recall the ending when they said it's ok for Gumball to let out his anger and then he vomits up toxic sludge and spews it all over Leslie/Alan. At that point Gumball was green and rotting like he couldn't hold his toxicity in and he had to be a jerk.
>>
To the anon who keeps sperging out over the letter when the armadin was a way worser ship episode that made penny a completely different character for the worse, Darwin and Carrie will have a two part special in the second batch of episodes.
Meaning will have a reason why she acted that way in the letter.
>>

Who's sperging? I just said The Letter is bad and used it as an example of why it's weird anon is upset at Tina for being a cunt, but likes that episode. Also, we have no idea yet if that two parter will fix the problems with it or double down on them like every Carwin episode previously has added more problems to the relationship.
>when the armadin was a way worser ship episode that made penny a completely different character for the worse
The Amadain was not great, but Penny and Gumball's relationship was already going downhill for seasons, so it doesn't feel as offensive.
