Ditto for It's A Wonderful Life and Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, where it's not necessarily the main point of the plot but elevates it immensely, specifically the scenes in It's A Wonderful Life where George's Wife volunteers their Honeymoon budget to save his business and the scene where she puts together a Honeymoon at Home for them when he's walking back and beating himself up for not being able to take her on one and trapping her in "this small town." and in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington where Saunders icy heart finally melts and she loses her cynicism upon seeing Jefferson so genuinely and passionately fight for what's right in the face of corruption. To lose the romance from either of these stories would severely impact them. And then for animated examples, lets just take a look at Sleeping Beauty and Swan Princess. Seeing both couples come together and the princess get saved by her true love is far more satisfying than any other way they could have played it.
