Shrek 1 is a masterpiece no doubt but I have always been bothered by the decision to have Fiona permanently transform into her ogre form at the end of the film from Shrek’s kiss- to me it seemed like the message was that Shrek can’t possibly have a 10/10 hot redhead and has to be looks matched with a hideous beast- Shrek didn’t fall in love with Ogre Fiona, he fell in love with human Fiona.

I get that the goal was to mock Disney films that had the same tropes particularly beauty and the beast and the little mermaid but it felt like in doing so they ironically ended up fulfilling the same tired trope.

>has to be looks matched with a hideous beast
Why is that bad?

Hmmm, great question- I guess in the end I am as shallow as Farquaad and Fiona’s father huh

I just always thought Fiona hating her ogre form and Shrek falling in love with human Fiona turning into Ogre Fiona after the kiss was odd, but they love each other regardless because of who they are which was the true moral of the story
