Genndy, McCracken, Judge, Hartman, Murray, Klasky Csupo, Jinkins, Groening...They cut their teeth when animation production times were still a lot slower. Animation was hand draw, colored with cells, and music was still often recorded live. The pipeline was orderly and despite "the crunch" always existing, there were cutoff points at each stage where work needed to be completed so the next phase could begin. As technology advanced so did production timelines and turnaround times got shorter and shorter. Picture lock essentially never really exists and edits that can throw a wrench in the pipeline can happen pretty much up until an episode airs. This is a blistering pace. The people who got their feet wet in the 80s/90s were able to speed up and adjust since they were already industry vets, but for any of the new creators who started working around that time, it was overwhelming. JG Quintel is one of the few who managed to make two shows out of the millennial creators, but most did one and kind of burned out. /co/ likes to think this is some sort of failure of work ethic, but they have no fucking clue how insane production schedules are now. During crunch time, the whole crew essentially works around the clock and if you're the boss, you just never really sleep.
