Isn't it a weird how Spider-Man and Batman both have cat themed on again/off again supervillain(ish) girlfriends that both try to give up the life of crime but can never truly get out of that life and both relationships aren't exactly healthy? And they're both 10/10s?I feel like it's a bit weird.
Could it possibly be that one of them is inspired by the other?
>>150174873Nope (allegedly)>According to her creator, writer Marv Wolfman, Marvel's Black Cat was not inspired by DC's Catwoman. While many note the similarities between the two cat-themed characters, Wolfman has stated that he was not thinking of Catwoman when he created Felicia Hardy
I always thought Black Cat ripped off Catwoman>t. doesn't read comics
comic moron so bear with me.but wasn't it that Catwoman came first, but Black Cat was the first to use that bodysuit look?
>>1501749651966 Catwoman had the black bodysuit first.
>>150174926>did you plagiarize somebody else's work?>oh shit, they found ou- I mean, of course not! It's just one big coincidence, I swear!TBF, Batman writers also plagiarized a lot. Originality in creative circles is way more rare than most like to admit.
>>150175679The original plan was to go against Spider-Woman and I don't think in the late 70s you would be allowed to have girls kissing girls. Plus the whole "bad luck" thing.
"black cat" is a very basic concept.I don't even care if one was inspired by the other.I'm just surprised neither has a witchcraft angle. Maybe that was to avoid marketability concerns in the superstitious states.
>>150175903Black isn't even that important to Catwoman. She can dress in other colors freely.
>>150174840selina is an imitation of Felicia actually.
>>150174840Black tight outfits are literally called CATsuits anon. Its not as weird as you think.
>>150176035Wrong
>>150175679Marv Wolfman was also a Batman writer at the time for what it's worth.
>>150175679I mean, it happens, people can come up with the same idea at different times. If you want to believe that Tolkien, a guy into mythology and literature, took no influence from Wagner or German folklore it's based on. And it's not like he even had to worry about copyright in that moment
>>150175903>I'm just surprised neither has a witchcraft angle. Maybe that was to avoid marketability concerns in the superstitious states.Maybe in the post-CCA era, yeah. But I like it they're just thieves in catsuits
>>150174926Then what was his inspiration?
>>150176190It also might be limiting for writers to constrain the characters to supernatural plot lines. They are more versatile as just "woman on the street". Maybe they could dabble in the occult for a few special issues, but if you want to go hard into the dark arts, that's another character altogether.
>>150174840>>150176085Felicia is the original and deecee just did a poor copy of her.
>>150176206Bad Luck Blackie supposedly.
Catwoman: 1940Black Cat: 1979
>>150174840not that weird
>>150177408>browses /co/>doesn't knowlmao
