Now that the final remnants of Dinosaur (2000 film) are going to be wiped out to extinction, what is its final legacy, if it is not forgotten forever?
>>150175051Nothing of value was lost.
>>150175051#RIPBOZO #PACKWATCH
They really mocked the dinos by featuring a logo with a cosmic meteor in it?
>>150175051The brontosaurus finding its will to keep going and attacking the collapsed wall was a legit 10/10 moment.
>>150175051Good let this shitty movie beforgotten along with the shiity species that inspired it
>>150175075I didnt ask for your tombstone quote.
>>150175051>what is its final legacy, if it is not forgotten forever?>Love monkeyThat one hand puppet survived 5 moves
>>150175051>Dinosaur (2000 film)as a kid this was the first movie I ever saw commercials for where I was like "That looks like shit and I don't want to see it.">>150175551the hand puppets were kino
>>150175051>what is its final legacy, if it is not forgotten forever? The Carnotaurus, Dinosaur is pretty much the spark that started it's entire foray into pop culture. Even though it's purpose was essentially to just be a substitute T. rex, it's distinct appearance and performance in the movie still made people remember it. Now the species has been featured in dozens of new documentaries, games, movies and TV series. Sometimes as a slow oversized T. rex substitute like in the original film, but now also being featured in more accurate portrayals as one of the fastest large theropods. Whenever people ask about it and how it integrated into pop culture, Disney's Dinosaur will be referenced as the beginning. A little ironic considering the movie's main character is an Iguanodon, but it wouldn't be the first time a movie was remembered more for it's villain than its hero.
>>150175260A lot of dinosaur imagery is centered around them being extinct. The Jurassic Park logo is the silhouette of a dinosaur skeleton and not a living one.
>>150175051I don't care how bad the movie is, that ride was kino.
>Dr. Grant "The Fag Beater" Seeker is finally getting cancelled
>>150175260>He didn't watch Dinosaur (2000)
>>150175260The ride opened before the Dinosaur movie existed. They rethemed it to Dinosaur later, but it opened as an original ride called Countdown to Extinction. It made more sense then. The ride's concept was you're in a time machine vehicle meant to bring a Dinosaur back to the present. The ride cars had a countdown timer on it that ticked down to when the Asteroid would impact and you had to race back to the future. But a Carnotaur would attack and chase you, making you miss the moment to 'escape' the asteroid safely so you have to go through the initial strikes and watch the world end while still being chased by a big Carno. It was very intense by Disney ride standards, and was known for scaring the shit out of children. The entire relationship with the Dinosaur movie and this ride is honestly strange. They did later change it's name to Dinosaur, and put an Aladar statue in front. But the ride itself barely changed and barely acknowledges the movie existing. It's a rare instance of the RIDE being more popular than the MOVIE and they tried to use the ride's popularity to boost awareness of the movie after it underperformed. It's also strange that the ride was about trying to rescue an Iguanodon while being chased by a Carnotaur. It makes me wonder how much the Dinosaur movie was always designed to synergize with the ride, though if that's the case, it doesn't make sense that the ride debuted as an original storyline if the movie came out only 2 years later.>>150176858It really is one of the coolest rides they ever made. Shocking they got so much mileage out of the same ride track as Indiana Jones. It's been depressing watching them let Dinosaur rot and fall apart with time. At this point it's ready to be put out of it's misery, they let it go without maintenance so much that lots of elements don't work anymore and haven't for a while. Really feels like they actively allowed the ride to decline so people won't complain when it closes.
>>150177817The novelization of the ride which seems to suggest it was suppose to be an original story from the beginning
I hope Seeker gets an easter egg or something at one of the other parks (maybe the Villains land?)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tN_z_cPcGM4
>>150175051Call me when they erase Land Before Time, I'm so mad that my parents made me sit through those with my little brother.
>>150177856From what I recall, Dinosaur (the movie) was originally meant to have no dialogue whatsoever and be like an extended nature documentary. The ride synergy makes perfect sense with that in mind. It may not have the time traveling Dino Institute elements from the ride, but the general concept of an Iguanodon dodging a Carnotaur and evading an Asteroid is in line with the ride experience.Still salty that that happened twice, with that Walking With Dinosaurs movie from a few years back meeting the same interference. Animated Dinosaur movies are so cursed.
>>150177879>Animated Dinosaur movies are so cursed.Dinosaur media in general is cursed with being seen as a "For kids" thing. I don't think there's a single Jurassic Park/World sequel that escaped having kids shoved into the cast for no discernable reason except "The higher ups mandated it for underage audience appeal".
>>150177956I often wondered how much of that is the curse of Spielberg being the lead producer on all of them. Dude is intent to keep them as infantile a series as possible with just enough edge to not be considered baby movies. That latest movie probably had the most forced inclusion of children into the script of them all so it's just getting worse. On the subject of Dinosaur, it's even more frustrating that Disney thought shoving stupid poop jokes and dialogue over the movie would appeal to children knowing the movie still didn't blow up the box office anyways. It probably wouldn't have made much of a difference if they went with the original less childish treatment. The fact they used cute fluffy toyetic modern Lemurs to do so is only more lame, they completely don't fit the setting and era. I'd love to know if the Lemurs even existed in the original version of the movie or not. I assume someone had to adopt Alladar and find his egg, but those Lemurs feel so much like studio interference.
>>150175051I remember loving it as a kid, my favorite part was the opening because the sounds the dinosaurs made were really satisfying.
>>150177817>>150177856Ride was always designed for movie synergy, that's why they had the same species and the Aladar stock footage was present from when the ride first opened as Countdown to Extinction. Movie artbook even claims there was a brief period where Countdown to Extinction was tossed around as a possible alternate title for the film. Not the only case of "Ride opens before the movie" in that park too what with the Bug's Life show that recently got shitcanned for Zootopia.
>>150175051Good riddance, non-feathered dino freaks!
>>150178042So fucking lame that they're taking out It's Tough To Be A Bug. Like I said in a previous post, I get it, Dinosaur is falling apart and they let it decline so it makes sense to finally part ways. But Tough To Be A Bug is fucking fine.Dinoland USA was such a shitshow of sad mismanagement. Sucks that there just won't be a Dinosaur themed area in AK anymore.Meanwhile the Jurassic Park ride over at Universal is rotting away and showing it's age so badly. Quality theme park dinosaur rides are getting rare and that's a disgrace.
>>150177595Context for this joke in case you need it:>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wallace_Langham>Langham plays Dr. Grant Seeker in the preshow of the theme park attraction Dinosaur at Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom, in which his character attempts to send guests back in time to retrieve a live Iguanadon; his voice is also heard in the ride vehicle throughout the attraction.
>>150178021>That latest movie probably had the most forced inclusion of children into the script of them all so it's just getting worse.Man that was bad, I've always had a pretty high tolerance for shitty writing (Grew up watching bayformers movies) but that movie was probably the first time I could predict every single scene in advance. Honestly felt detestable watching a B-plot about a family of random civilians bumble through a dinosaur jungle with zero casualties (Picking up a marketable plushiesaurus along the way) while the main plot had experienced mercenaries dropping like flies. Has me wondering if it's because I just have more movie watching experience now, or because movies have genuinely gotten that bad to where even I can notice it now.
>>150178169I have very high tolerance for schlock and b movies, but I struggle with them when they are made at the budget of something like a Jurassic World film. Do better if you have access to that much fucking production value. It's just depressing seeing it wasted.Rebirth's absolutely my least favorite in the series now. I don't know how they pulled that off honestly but man it sucked. The writing completely kills it, it's just so low quality it's shocking that an industry vet like Koepp wrote it. Really feels like grandpa wrote a script that might've passed in 1998 for a potential Jurassic Park 3, but fuck it feels so hackey, cliched, tired, and worn out 7 movies in. Absolutely nothing new in it at all. That opening scene was seriously the worst. I couldn't believe how dumb it was. It legit felt like watching a Naked Gun style parody of Jurassic Park, and that's how they start the movie off. I immediately lost interest from the very start which is honestly impressive. I don't think it's just you and I getting older. I think Rebirth is an exceptional case of bad movie making entirely because of David Koepp. The movie is bad, that's one thing. But it's bad in a way someone totally out of touch would make it be. It feels like he never watched any of the movies after the ones he wrote for Spielberg, so isn't aware of just how much he's not offering anything new.
Anyone else going to cosplay on February?
>>150177879>From what I recall, Dinosaur (the movie) was originally meant to have no dialogue whatsoever and be like an extended nature documentary.Little child me was so hype watching that trailer (which gave off that impression since it featured no dialogue) and subsequently so disappointed when I went to see it and they started talking
>>150178202>The writing completely kills it, it's just so low quality it's shocking that an industry vet like Koepp wrote it. Really feels like grandpa wrote a script that might've passed in 1998 for a potential Jurassic Park 3, but fuck it feels so hackey, cliched, tired, and worn out 7 movies in. Absolutely nothing new in it at all.Good way to sum up the trainwreck, I remember the river Rex scene being praised as the best but I couldn't even care when I watched it since I knew every member of the family had military grade plot armor. It really says a lot when even a good scene with a great concept in your movie gets bogged down by everything surrounding it.I think the most tragic part of the whole thing is that I actually was holding out some hope for it before going to watch it. I know a lot of people didn't like the idea, but the mutants were legitimately an interesting direction to take. The movies were already pushing out fictional dinosaurs like the Indominus/Indoraptor, might as well go all the way and do something creative with them instead of uninspired hybrid designs. Coming up with something as grotesque as the D. rex fit with the franchises ideas of genetic engineering gone wrong/playing god. Was unfortunately wasted on one of the worst scripts I've ever seen.
>>150178263They tried to give it mass market appeal, but I don't think it ever would have worked. Outside of Jurassic Park no Dinosaur franchise ever takes off.The irony is, the kids it would appeal to the most that would ask their parents for all the toys would be the super-autistic dino-nerds. And those super-autistic dino nerds are the kids most likely to prefer it being an extended nature doc with no dialogue. They really just fucked it up and made a middling movie that doesn't particularly appeal to anyone in the end.>>150178283I still can't get over the fact the family survives everything they do while the father has a broken(?) leg? I think? They never actually specify what injury he got but his hobble constantly varies in severity. Also the goddamn raft somehow surviving the big ass T-Rex ripping into it like a chew toy. Seriously it was just an increasing string of more insulting contrivances and that's JUST the family subplot. It's crazy how much no one cared. They should have at least killed the boyfriend. He didn't even get a hero moment like Billy in JP/// to make him less insufferable. That family served NO purpose.I actually liked the Mutant idea too. Going in, I was optimistic the movie would at least be an improvement. I couldn't fathom it getting this lazy. Dominion I at least think was fucked over hard by COVID during production, but Rebirth has zero excuse being this shitty. They clearly just don't care anymore at this point with the franchise. I also hate that the D-Rex did jack-shit and effectively could have been written out of the movie. The thing is barely in it. And the Mutadons don't do a damn thing that Raptor couldn't have done. The Mutants felt like something shoved in in post, despite ostensibly being the main concept of the movie's pitch. It's so strange.I at least am grateful they didn't kill the poor D-Rex. I liked that guy a lot despite the movie doing nothing with him. Glad it didn't die in a forced boss battle.
>>150175051It was a really good use of CGI at the time and the toys were pretty cool. I remember having the knock-off T-Rex as a kid and I loved that thing.
>>150175551I had this puppet. Peak childhood.
>>150177879Don't forget The Land Before Time, too. Also:> Walking With Dinosaurs movieI had no idea they rebooted this. I loved the 90's one and owned it on VHS. I would watch it often.
>>150178097That's such B.S. it obviously had nothing to do with him being gay.
>>150178340>It's crazy how much no one cared.I think a lot of people gave the scene a pass because it was admittedly novel in a way. The T. rex is portrayed as a natural animal that's first shown sleeping, drinking, and only starts pursuing the family out of legitimate curiosity. A smart writer could have even taken advantage of this non-aggressive motivation to justify the entire family making it through the encounter alive. Of course we don't get that but the Rex blindly snapping its jaw in the water and miraculously missing on every attempt it makes to grab someone. >They should have at least killed the boyfriend. He didn't even get a hero moment like Billy in JP/// to make him less insufferable. That family served NO purpose. The funniest part is that out of the whole family I can't decide who was the worst, they were all equally awful. As you mentioned, the father limps around with a leg wound that stops mattering when he needs it to, the younger daughter is a walking PSA on what NOT to do around small wild animals, the older daughter is just your dime a dozen girl boss who runs a tough act but can never back it up, and the boyfriend signals the start of the families ridiculous plot armor when he survives that Raptor/Mutadon scene.>I at least am grateful they didn't kill the poor D-Rex. I liked that guy a lot despite the movie doing nothing with him. Glad it didn't die in a forced boss battle.Out of all the things in the movie, this along with the one guy surviving the D. rex somehow were the only things that surprised me. It really felt like they were tempted to do it too considering they went out of their way to introduce a T. rex for a single scene earlier in the movie. In any case the way they handled the mutants was a completely mess and waste of their potential. Bewilders me how they wrote in a helicopter destruction scene and had the D. rex temporarily supersize itself to destroy the chopper instead of just having the flying raptors do it.
>>150178435Land Before Time is forever a masterpiece. The only 'cursed' thing someone could say it received is an endless string of sequels but I honestly think they're mostly fine. Nothing compared to the original, but that was an impossible task anyway. Some are really fun.The Walking With Dinosaurs movie fucking sucked though. Extreme disappointment because the original 90s series were amazing, and I revisit them still often. I'm looking at my tapes of them right now. The 2013 movie was a total mess. Just like Disney's Dinosaur, it started off as a documentary style no-dialogue film. I think it was going to have narration like the original 90s series, but the dinos were gonna be mute. It ended up getting the most pre-school tier dialogue shoved on top of it though. Just totally ruined the entire product. They recently made new episodes of Walking With Dinosaurs again as a tv show, I believe it's still getting new ones currently. Haven't had a chance to watch it yet so don't know if it's good or not. But I at least know they are in the style of the original tv specials. Not kids movies with talking dinos.
>>150175297Stfu
>>150178202I could tell they were on the decline starting with Fallen Kingdom. It just reeked of popcorn flick writing and the plot falls apart when you think about it for four seconds. > We need to sell Dinosaurs because they can totally nerf modern military weapons> How are we going to get them?> Oh, we'll use modern military weapons. They can't stand up to those things in any conceivable wayAnd then there's the whole dino girl thing. It's always stupid and what killed the franchise originally. People don't want Dinosaurs to be over the top. It's like a jaws movie. The whole appeal is your stuck somewhere and it's trying to kill you and it looks cool. That's the whole movie right there.>>150178340Land Before Time did alright, but you're right in terms of Jurassic Park making far more money. It's funny that the most successful Dinosaur franchise it the only one that DOESN'T have them talk and yet, they can't get the memo. I fear soon they'll start trying to make them feathered and it will be the end of dinosaur media.
>>150178482No, I meant originally George Lucas wanted it to be dialogue-less and to have them behaving naturalistic like a nature documentary. Kind of like Quest For Fire, but with Dinosaurs. Honestly, a lot of creatives seem to want to go that route, which makes sense since it's something supposedly from "real life" that you'll never actually get to see. That being said, I love the Land Before Time movies and will watch them all up through 11. Ten is pushing it a bit, but I'll allow it because as a kid I always wondered about Little Foot's Dad so seeing him finally show up was cool. I've never watched the tv show, which seems awful, but I'm curious because as a child all I ever wanted was for Chomper to show up and be able to hangout with them again so I kind of owe it to little me to check it out.
>>150178478They actually were going to have a third act Dinosaur battle originally. I think it was Koepp, or Edwards that said it was the original plan. They changed it because they smartly realized and acknowledged they have had a third act kaiju fight multiple times now, and it's getting predictable. I believe they said it was the D-Rex killed by the Spinosaurus'. I'm so glad they didn't do it. The D-Rex was a chill bro that really didn't mean any harm. He's really cute too, in a Sloth from Goonies kinda way. It would feel gross watching it butchered for no reason, when it's lived just fine peacefully in the wild for over a decade. It already was sad watching the Giga die in the previous movie when he didn't do anything 'bad' either. But watching D-Rex die would be like picking on a retard.Speaking of unused materials and the mutants, you should see some of the original concept art for the Mutadons. They seriously are 1:1 just the MUTOs from Godzilla 2014 (same director)And it wasn't just some loose phase of the concept art stage either, they almost used these. They released pre-viz photos of these designs stalking people in the gas station scene. Everything about Rebirth just feels like such a thrown together mess of ideas from other places.
>>150178537
>>150177817Fun read anon, thanks
>>150178537>They seriously are 1:1 just the MUTOs from Godzilla 2014 (same director)Damn, I did not know the designs were that lazy. I mean call me gullible for falling for the same shit with a dinosaur themed coat of paint slapped onto it, but I did like the mutants. Even if the D. rex just followed the standard "Design a modern western movie monster" Cloverfield body plan, it still felt fitting for it. Like the scientists were trying to make a "Better" T. rex by giving it larger arms since pop culture often makes fun of them. But a tiny tinkering to add a +Arm size gene instead turns that gene into ++++++Arm size and adds an extra pair of limbs. That's just my headcanon, since I don't think they even tell us why the D. rex exists or was kept alive, but it at least fits with the narrative the I. rex started of "Normal dinosaurs are becoming boring to the public".>It already was sad watching the Giga die in the previous movie when he didn't do anything 'bad' either. But watching D-Rex die would be like picking on a retard.I can't even remember Dominion that well. It was essentially a globe trotting adventure acting as a big finale to the first World trilogy right? The Giga was always confusing to me, the whole thing felt like general paleo-fan service in a way. "Hey look! JP is finally adding the other mega theropod that isn't Rex or Spino!" They even give it a weird temporal backstory with that prehistoric scene too, as if Rexy is able to retain a 65 million year old grudge or something. Really feel like the Giga's entire inclusion was for the youtube comments sections of old dinosaur pivot fight videos.
>>150178086The bugs life show was falling apart just as much as Dinosaur. Hopper’s animatronic barely moves half the air blowers don’t work so the joke of the millions of bugs leaving doesn’t land. Animal Kingdom in general feels likes it’s on the back burner.

I hate to see it go, but I’ve been wanting an Indiana Jones dark ride in WDW for years, it’s a fair trade off.
I have some pictures of the gift shop in DinoLand USA.
I like the opening scene from Dinosaur so much, when there’s no talking
