>>150179468If I was the editor or JMD I would tell the artist to do Peter's face again and send as many pictures of his square jaw from the show as reference.
>>150179454Why didn't they even try to make the art match the Animated Series?
>>150179544Was he even in the animated show?

Those faces are so awful it taints the whole issue, Jesus.
>>150179407They did all this, but they couldn't get John Semper and an artist from the show to just adapt his script for the final season? I would've went to a store and bought physical copies.
>>150179425Come on, man. We've been waiting HOW long and you do this to us?

>>150179433> A Tale we'll tell....eventuallyOh, so NEVER. NEVER IS THE ANSWER YOU J.J. ABRAMS HACK! (I will apologize if they're working out adaption rights with Semper on the down low.)Also: I hate that they're going in this direction. It's lazy, hackneyed writing and not what I want or what the show would've done. And we KNOW that because Semper actually posted his scripts.
>>150179638>dommed to be stuck with MJI know Peter and MJ are freaky but I didn't know they were into that.
>>150179695>Man who thought he'd lost all hope in Marvel loses last additional hope he didn't even know he still hadFuck this shitty book.
>>150179668Apparently, they didn't even get in touch with TAS folks.
>>150179462Finally.Also, I have to say. I had a situation where I was told a close family member died and mourned them HARD for three days, only to find out I was misinformed and they were alive. NEVER would I react this way they do in fiction where "it's too hard to trust again" or whatever. It was like a miracle getting them back and if anything it made me feel like things were MORE LIKELY to work out because it was like they had come back from the dead in a way.I know a lot of authors don't have a way of knowing that, but I just can't put up with storylines that go that direction anymore after that.
>>150179425wait what?
>>150179485She was just always riding Peter's butt. No real reason, but if you need one I think it might be because he always has to go running off and "puts himself in danger" by photographing Spider-Man.
>>150179687Nta, MJ’s great, but the 1994 animated series is the rare case where Felicia is developed enough to give her a run for her money as a viable love interest for Peter.
>>150179507I feel like they don't care to actually continue the show >>150179522Same. I feel like Semper could pull it off and 94 always had a lot of magic with Madam Web and Dormammu but it would be cool to see something else.
>>150179742I think she had somebody she wanted to fix MJ up with, and Peter was just a favor she did for May that ended up sticking around. I haven't rewatched TAS since they first put it up on the Marvel website though.
>>150179523Aunt Anna was a sweetheart in the comics
>>150179485>that episode where she sicks Punisher on Peter
>>150179638They're married, Anon
>>150179425>>150179427>>150179433I'm beginning to suspect that JMS just wanted to write Pre-OMD Peter again and is just using '94 as a means to circumvent the Spider-Office...
>>150179433What a cop out. A single page to bridge us from the series finale to now.
>>150179488Sure, Anna could’ve been more tactful, but she’s not wrong. It’s irresponsible for a married couple to depend on an elderly relative who’s too kind to refuse.
>>150179863did Peter ever get his own place in the show? I always recall him living with Aunt May

>>150179902Aunt Anna is right then, Peter is a leech. Get a proper job so can support your wife and the woman who's been taking care of you since you were a kid.
>>150179638instead of trying to feed on misery have you tried suicide?
I don't hate it, I think I know what J. M. DeMatteis is doing, the TAS ended in 98, very close to 2000s and Morlun, I know people hate him now because of Clone Saga, but Morlun wasn't always hated, he is the guy who kickstarted JMS's run. Ezekiel also JMS run. Peter mentioned finding a teaching position, again JMS run. So he's making a Spider-man TAS that mixes and matches elements of early 2000s Spider-man comics trying to emulate how John Semper was doing it at the time, he also frequently tried to adapt modern storylines along with classic ones. And right now I am fairly ok with the issue (besides artwork) and I think Morlun hate is overblown. I think it could work because it's not Morlun by Slott and trying to adapt totem storyline, the very early 2000s storyline by JMS into TAS like how TAS would've done it makes sense.
>>150179898To be fair, this is dogshit also, bigger problem is that this artwork just doesn't look anything like TAS.
>>150179898now its too generic and misses her high cheek bones and cleft chin
>>150179427>>150179433What's the point of using Spider-Chad if you're going to turn him into an ugly pencil neck?
>>150179953I hear what you're saying but my hate for Morlun overrides logic.
>>150179953Only their clothes are the same though. The artstyle detracts from the original so the atmosphere is also different and introducing 4 new villains in 12 pages makes it too different to consider a continuation (for me)
>>150179419>MorlunAnd into the shitter it goes. Thanks, Obama.
>>150179445>>150179449>shows up for two pages and jobs to death in a story written by his own creatorEdward just can't catch a break.
How many issues until Paul shows up?
>>150179425>MJ is back>On '94Retcon I guess? Wasn't she like a water clone or whatever?
>>150179462Hooray!
>>150180310>>150179433Ah, OK. nvm
>>150179953I'm willing to give this Morlun a chance both because DeMatteis is the one writing him and because this one doesn't have the stink of Spider-Verse and its sequels on him. That said, I wasn't exactly fond of his return in The Other despite having been perfectly fine with his debut story.
>>150180310This is the real MJ, Peter saved her, they've deliberately ignored that story, according to JMD, they'll tell it if sales are good. Why they're willing to work backwards god only knows
>>150180342Well the sales will probably be awful because holy ahit is the artwork awful in addition to not even attempting to emulate the style of the show.
>>150180342>>150180356Yeah, it feels like they are given just enough budget/people to test the waters. They would need Ultimate money if they actually want something more substantial. Also,>Morlun>Again
>>150180374To me it almost feels like the book has been set up to fail so they can point at it and say "See, people hate a happily married Peter Parker, especially if it's to MJ."
>>150180356Yeah, there's too much of the 2000s woven into this, and JMD used all of his 'vanity' choices for the villains (Molten Man and Vermin were used in his famous Spec run, which is out in omnibus form now, so it's a bit of an ad), I also would have liked Bruce the Gargoyle to have shown up in the scene where MJ storms off
>>150180398>"Hey, and have you MET her Aunt?"
>>150179422I hate marvel
>>150179433i REALLY hate marvel
>>150179427look how they massacred my boy
This sucks. And this is the first comment I've posted on /co/ in 15 years of lurking.
>>150179407We're bringing back Spider-man 1994!>Cool, are you using the old villains? No.>Are you using the old art style? No,>Are you using the old writers? No,>are you using the old looks? No.>What are you using?Morlun!
>>150179668It’s weird because DeMatteis is by all means a better writer than Semper, but I would want Semper on this book and I don’t like how this barely feels like TAS.
>>150179425Ok where was she? what happened to her?, last thing I remember is that she was lost somewhere and there was a water clone and by the end of the series Madam web promised Peter to help him find the real MJ as thanks for saving the multiverse or something.
>>150179425>>150179433Meh, I never thought the “how” of MJ’s rescue was that important. In the show, it came off as a guarantee instead of another adventure. A shame they’re using it as sequel bait.
Jmd kino as always
>>150179470Peter will become one of the Lost Kids
DC at least tries when it comes to art in cartoon tie-in books.
>>150179488Why is it "Freeload"? is specifically the line I hear Peter's cartoon voice in my head from?
>>150179529So is this Kaine coming back or are we getting a new test tube baby?
Well, that was a rollercoaster. I'm intrigued.
>>150179407Just make it look like the cartoon faces. Peter looks like a faggot.
Having this art on a TAS continuation written by JMD genuinely feels like sabotage.

>>150182334that stuff would probably fit well in a 67 continuation comic, vampires that specifically eat on spider people and clone shit isn't weirder then Greek Gods on mars and higher dimensional beings
>>150182627Why does Peter look like he's about to punch her face in?She's already dead, man. Relax.
There's a script online from Semper showing how Spider-Man rescued Mary Jane, I imagine JMD/Marvel don't want to just adapt that or do a completely different take on it. Better to just assume that's canon and continue on.
>>150182334For people who watched it, but don't remember what happened. It's nostalgiawank.
>>150179813It's not Strazynski, it's DeMatties, who wrote Kraven's Last Hunt. He worked on the animated show back in the day so it's not entirely divorced from the official staff
>>150182295Doubt it, the editor on this book is the guy who worked with JMD on his Spider-Man miniseries from recent years and likely supports this. I think it's more of a budget problemDisney gives money to Marvel but clearly not enough, which prompts Marvel to keep pushing constant relaunches and variant covers to justify Disney giving more money. Since older creators may have a higher salary they then likely have to cut costs somewhere else
>>150184239There's a solution that would allow Marvel to make more money, but Spider-editorial doesn't want to hear it.
I'm wondering if it's an issue of the current Spider-Office being so obsessed with recapturing their own childhood nostalgia that they are incapable of comprehending any other generation's
>>150182334For me. Also for JMD and Khazem who seemingly got their Kaine book pitch denied.
>>150184239Man I wish the Greg Weisman Spidey book had been under this editor instead.
>>150184182>Stan Lee>Len Wein>Roger Stern>JMDA surprising number of comic people worked on that show. I was about to say this practice needs to come back, but then I remembered WHO modern Marvel writers are.
>>150184668Yeah like, Slott worked on the 2017 Spider-Man show (as consulting producer) and Joe Quesada, Jeph Loeb, Man of Action (Joe Kelly, Joe Casey, Duncan Rouleau, Steven T Seagle), and Bendis worked on the USM show.
>>150184698woof. kinda explains a lot
>>150184668That's the funny part, it IS being practiced. Wells and Ziglar were on She-Hulk's writing room. The latter even got 5 seconds of spotlight over complaining about pay.
>>150184698JMD also wrote for the 2017 Spidey cartoon. I think he may have been the one behind the decision to bring in MJ and give the show it's happy ending
>>150184769That picture speaks louder about about She-Hulk series than any words can.
>>150184276It was funny seeing someone on twitter get upset over Spider-Man 94 being a nostalgia fest days ago while being blind to how ASM since OMD is basically a nostalgia fest to 70s/80s Spider-Man and to shit from even BND and Slott and Wells' runs
>>150179529>Man-RatOf course JMD worked Vermin in somehow.
