To me, Nightwing seems like a character on the cusp of being an A-list superhero character but isn't quite there. I guess the biggest thing is DC needs to want Nightwing to be an A-lister, right? Nightwing has been a central figure in recent comic events. There was a brief push to make his team (Titans) the premier DC superhero team (though it seems this is over and the Justice League are back). The Nightwing comic had a high profile artist and writer on it for some years recently but I'm not sure if this was adequately followed up with the new creative team (no offense to the current writer or artist).

Marvel has turned characters like Miles Morales and Star Lord into A list names (the average person somewhat in touch with pop culture knows who the Guardians of the Galaxy and Star Lord are, for example) while it still seems like Nightwing will never be as known to the casual public as well as his first identity (Robin) is. Maybe this upcoming animated film starring Dick and Jason Todd will be the mainstream project that can fix that?

Miles will never be an A-lister, freak.

He needs to get an actual good run. Not just a run that's acceptable by people who have already decided to like him because he's the original Robin; and actual GOOD run that complete strangers to the character can read and go "this is a good comic, I don't feel like I'm committing blasphemy if I put it on the same shelf as Watchmen and Dark Knight Returns".

Which is impossible because at a fundamental level the character is tied to Batman.

He starred in a high profile DLC of one of Playstation's biggest 1st party titles ever and co-starred in the sequel and is one of the main characters in two animated films that were more or less successful. He may not be able to carry a comic series that is critically acclaimed and regularly sales, he may just be known to the public as "the black Spider-man" but he has had multiple mainstream successful projects and the mainstream knows him.

Right, why does it seem like it's impossible for supporting cast characters to rarely be able to have A quality runs that the primary character they are tied to have? I don't think this is always the case. The Winter Soldier has great runs, hasn't he?

No, that's not the problem with him. It's much simpler: he's boring. People fixate on the Batman connection because without it, he's got barely any character left. He's just Generic Hero Man. He's a good guy. He doesn't like crime. He has some sticks and does backflips a lot. That's not enough.

There are supporting characters, including Batman ones, that still have enough going to be full characters if you remove Batman connection from them. Nightwing's not one of them. Imagine trying to sell him as a property if you weren't allowed to bring Batman up, it would be hopeless.

He can't, he's too gay for it

It's too late.

>In the comics
he already is, he sells better than most, gets a solo and a team book and gets shilled into the spotlight in events.
>>150180542
he already has, its just that his best stories are as both Robin AND Batman, not Nightwing.
its also know that good pitches for Nightwing get turned into batman stories instead.
>outside of the comics
literally just a someone that isn't a Nolan/Reeves retard and actually adapts him

He is a Batman/Spider-Man/Daredevil mix who also is the biggest chad and fucks all the women in his age ranfe and also has the impulse of being the titans leader and the first robin
he would sell gorillions if they actually did a movie arc of him starting as robin, leading the titans, fighting batman, turning into nightwing and then taking the mantle temporaly
he is the eternal potential man, if done well he could be similar to what spider-man is to marvel in the movies

>Star Lord
Within the movies, he's treated as a B-list.
He has his moments in the spotlight, but his personality and lifestyle choices keep him from perennial fame.

Have good comics for once.

Miles has a higher profile than Dick Grayson and that’s a fact
>>
>>150180501
Dick Grayson is the most boring Robin on the team. Turns out, it’s not exactly fun reading about the character who’s entire personality is being the heccin good boi who is the perfect son and loved by all.
>>

Dicks problem is that he’s been one of the few characters who consistently grew and aged alongside (at a much slower pace but you get it) the reader, but as of 20 years ago he reached the point at which editorial stopped being comfortable with his growth because it was no longer congruent with an eternally late 30s Batman.
The character was popular because he reflected how life is constant change, but now he can’t change.
This isnt even *bad* for the character, because it means his arc is complete, he’s where he’s supposed to be in life. But that also means there is no conflict, and therefore anything you throw at the character, be it making his team replace the JL or sending him to space, will be a gimmick, not a story.
His story is done until Bruce’s death, however that happens and however he responds. Logically that’s something that *will* happen to a person, but of course editorial will never allow it. Thus, he will never be an A-lister. Not like he was as Robin in the 50s.

>Batman/Spider-Man/Daredevil mix chad
What you just described is a boring Gary Stu. Dick isn’t that because he has to struggle to get there of course, but that just means that, again, what you are describing is a character whose story is complete.
You’re right that a proper live action adaptation of his whole story (whether it ends with him as Nightwing or him becoming Batman) would do gangbusters and put him back on the A-list. But notice how you didn’t say he needed a movie as just Nightwing.

FPBP, Spider-Nig will always be an abomination
>>

>who also is the biggest chad

He has NEVER behaved like a chad. He behaves as a boring generic white boy.
>>
Why do people compare Dick to Matt Murdock? At least Daredevil has good comics under his belt.
>>
>>150180501
He's called Nightwing. Nightwing. He will never be anything but a character on comics and cartoons.
