Maybe this plot has been done already and I'm just a retard, but why doesn't Batman run for mayor of Gotham? Like from an editorial perspective and an in universe perspective it seems like a natural place to take the character. And it would get those "Why doesn't Batman use his money to help Gotham???" fags to shut up because we'd have an arc where he does exactly that (and presumably fails because nothing can have an ending in comics)
>>150182399Because he's a billionaire AND Batman. It would make more sense for him to buy the mayor and then keep him in line through fear.
Why doesn't he just invent the iPhone so everyone in Gotham will watch tiktok instead of committing crimes like people in real life?
>>150182460How would buying a corrupt political candidate and blackmailing him solve the corruption problem in Gotham?
>>150182528The mayor would be a great insider, he uses his info to take down a good portion of crime until is time to get him in jail too. Then he "hires" a clean person that will do things his way to end crime. It's not perfect and still outside the rules, but that's Batman. That would be the smart way to get info and take down those guys from inside, instead of just dressing like a bat and listen to their chat through some device atop of a building in the rain. That's not crime fighting, it's a fucking mental disorder.
>>150182825I still don't understand why that's better than running for mayor himself.
>>150182399Imagine Bruce having to disclose his tax returns.
>>150183130Its a honeytrap, essentially. The purpose of the first mayor isn't to be clean, its to be corrupt but with the intent to gather evidence on everyone who comes to him with a bribe and a deal. Someone who has NO INTENTION of getting away with it, just making as many criminal deals as possible, documenting then extensively, and then sinking how own ship so that he can take everyone else down with it. Bruce can't do that himself. He doesn't have the background that would invite corrupt bargains like that, and this plan necessarily ends with him super in jail. Bruce can be the second guy, the mayor who gets brought in to clean house, but not the one thats a fall guy.
>>150182399No sane person should ever vote a billionaire into office. They don't have your best interest at heart. You would have to be an absolute retard to vote for a billionaire and give him even more power.
>>150183130Because being mayor is a big waste of time. Lots of dinners, deals under the table, backstabbing, PR, how you spend the budget, etc. Also if all the structure is corrupt one single mayor would acomplish nothing, and being in the open he could be killed pretty easily, unless he hires someone like Superman to be his body guard.Billionaires have much more power and if they do their deeds afar from the public eye they can get away with a lot of shit. If Batman needs something only the mayor can do, force the mayor to do it, don't become the mayor.
>>150182399>why doesn't Batman run for mayor of GothamThe Adam West show has Batman doing exactly that to keep Penguin from winning, and then he immediately cedes his position to the previous mayor.
>>150182399Mayors have no off time to go crime fighting. It's a problem for Bruce. Also the mayor is kidnapped like 3 times a week.
>>150182825Not a Batman fan are you? It's repeatedly been shown that the position of Mayor in Gotham is a worthless position and that the crime and corruption in Gotham keeps sinking candidates left and right.Bruce literally would have to pull a Luthor in terms of "you know how much power I had to give up to become President?". He'd be under intense public scrutiny, his rivals would have card blanche to dig into Bruce's past (with Blind Justice establishing that Bruce has multiple "lost years" from where he was training to become Batman which the public are quite suspicious about), and he would have to 100% divest from his company. And that doesn't count the fact that Bruce/Batman is soft on crime as seen by him refusing to kill Joker. A single mass murder from Joker would get Bruce impeached when he starts insulting and threatening harm to anyone asking why he's not ordering the DA's office to reject Joker's insanity plea and seek the death penalty against him.
>>150183355It's New Jersey, it's already corrupt (Gotham is geographically Trenton)
>>150183606>Bruce running against Joker for MayorI can't remember what offices Joker's already run for
>>150182484TikTok in the DC Universe would 100% be used to brainwash people by some evil organization. Even more so than real life.
>>150182399This game is so stupid.
>>150182399Why would Bruce Wayne who already wants to spend his entire life dressed up as a bat take a job which would require him to be in the public eye and doing retarded shit that takes away from his time as dressing up as a bat?
>>150182460>in line through fearUh you lost me at that part. Just the bribery should be enough.Fear doesn't work as a tactic long term. It'll work well for an initial period, but over time it breeds resentment and a desire to rebel.
>>150183600>Mayors have no off time to go crime fighting. It's a problem for Bruce.>Also the mayor is kidnapped like 3 times a week. These two problems solve each other.>Get kidnapped>Break out and fight crime and then say Batman swooped in and saved youEZ
>>150182399Battinson went over this, as did anything with the court of owls, politicians don't matter and crooks have always ran the show
>>150185829Then wouldn't it be an interesting arc to see him try it and get blocked by the Court of Owls? I just feel like seeing him make a super robot that can kill the whole justice league is getting kinda boring at this point.
>>150182399When would a highly public figure have time to fight crime?
>>150182399Because democracy ties the hands of its appointed leaders and can only get things done via a crew with no captain, an impossibility.
>>150182399He should run for president as a 3rd party candidate to draw votes away from Luthor, with Bruce never intending to win. He's only running to ensure Luthor doesn't get enough votes to win, but voters love his playboy persona so much that he starts winning in polling to his own shock so he doubles down on being unpresidential thinking it will drive voters away, but it just makes him even more popular and he ends up winning the election and now has to begrudgingly leave Gotham to run the White House.
>>150182399Uhh Bruce Wayne? that single guy with all the kids who fucks supermodels every week? Why would he get involved with politics?
>>150186072Little known fact: his parents were killed in front of him in a mugging when he was a kid and he spends a ton of money on crime prevention charities.
>>150182399I think there was an elseworld where he did that but they had the Batman who LOLs kill him instantly instead of actually exploring that timeline and what that world was like
>>150183130It's the MC of a superhero book/show with no ends in sight and meant for american children/teens. Every question or problem you may have with Batman steams from that. He's about episodic superheroe stuff, and not a long story about a billionaire playing the politic chess game (a different can of worms). The character and concept wasn't meant to be transposed it into the adult world and doesn't work there, unless you want to write about a rich lunatic chasing windmills with his child soldiers.
>>150185905At night.
>>150188523When would he sleep?
>>150183471America disagrees
Why doesn't every fictional character just prevent every problem from happening before the plot even begins?
>>150182399Do you know how much power he'd have to give up to become mayor?
>>150183471Judging a person's morality based on the size of their wallet is peak commie and gay.
Just being the mayor doesn't mean crime will be solved. Look at Trump and all the people who keep him from doing what it's needed. The whole system of Gotham is corrupted. As Bruce, he helps within the system and places himself inside the machine, and as Batman, he helps outside the system against those who also go outside it.
>>150182399From a narrative perspective it's stupid. Bruce Wayne can't do what he does as Batman as the Mayor of Gotham City. He'd be expected to move into the mayoral mansion. He'd have a 24/7 security detail and a packed schedule that wouldn't leave any time or opportunity for Batmanning. Also Judd Winick did it in Green Arrow. Could have been good, but mid execution.
>>150189116>Look at Trump and all the people who keep him from doing what it's needed.Bait used to be believable.
>>150188889When does billionaire playboy philanthropist have time to sleep? Batman always does more than he should logically have time for.
>>150188920>>150189039Suck Bruce Wayne's dick is certainly a choice.
