Anyone else notice her pop up on youtube with a lot of new stuff recently?I thought she was kinda semi-retired after steven universe but I was sorta pleasantly surprised her stuff pop seemingly out of nowhere after years of radio silence except minor cameos like in amphibia. Her new song from 4 days ago that I think was how I found that she started posting a bunch of new stuff on the channel.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J77yQcT517EAnd she has a whole bunch of others there too recently. Her new short film from 11 days ago.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OarSVfiSKYAnd she's been posting a ton of shorts discussing inspiration for the music and designs she did for steven and adventure time, mostly yapping about her love for ocarina of time lol.https://www.youtube.com/@rebecca_sugar/shorts
>>150183946does rebbeca go anything else than feel good escapist shit?
>>150184023I mean it's kinda half and half, she likes sappy/love stuff but she also likes to make dark and depressing stuff too.I mean she's basically the definition of artsy calarts girl.
>>150183946>Rebecca Rea Sugar>July 9, 1987 (age 38)There was no way in hell someone with her level of acclaim and popularity was gonna say semi-retired for long, especially when she clearly has a genuine passion for her work. There's like, an itch at that point. You have a job, you're good enough at that job to get tons of praise and the spare cash to coast on, and sooner or later, you're not satisfied because so much of your life was that job to the point your social life and ability to keep yourself occupied takes a massive hit when you stop
>>150184099I mean yeah art in general and especially animation has been dying so I wouldn't be surprised if she just peaced out.I mean making songs on youtube is kind of the definition of semi-retired type content, I doubt she'll get a new show or anything crazy like that. But retiring to just be a once in a blue moon youtuber seems to fit her vibe.
>>150184023> does rebbeca go anything else Most artists find a niche and explore it. You experiment when you're younger and a student, but at some point in your career, it's a good idea to find a path and follow it. Most artists will still explore on the side, but the public may not see much of that. The typical advice is that you want to be the person people go to for a very specific thing instead of being a jack of all trades. If someone wants to order a feel good escapist show, they'll go to Rebecca Sugar, not someone who does it all. And if they want a slice of life with a touch of surrealism show, they'll go to J.G. Quintel, not someone who does it all. Being versatile is good when you're young and learning since it can help you grow but when you're at the point that you're building a career, it's better to be a specialist.
>>150184137>I doubt she'll get a new show or anything crazy like thatshe and Ian have been soft pitching the idea of continuing Steven Universe. I don't think another show (SU related or otherwise) is out of the question. She's in the position where she can be choosy, though. I don't think she'll do a show just because the opportunity pops up. I think she'll do one if the opportunity happens to coincide with something she really wants to do.

>>150184784she's just an executive producer on it though, so she's not actually involved in making it
>>150184469A Lars of the Stars spinoff is officially in development. Sugar is also co-writing Matt Braly's film at Sony.
>>150184784>if it makes it to greenlightLmao this won't come out until the end of the decade
>>150184023That's like asking if Cormac McCarthy writes anything other than run-on sentences.
>>150184927Isn't he dead, though?
>>150183946>Her new short film from 11 days ago. That's an HD upload of an older work.
>>150184891Pretty sure the IP has just sorta depreciated in value at this point so the networks are gonna hesitate on the trigger. The movie and Future were both meant to be swan songs for the series after the whole "gay wedding" debacle. Say what you want but it's very clear there was someone along the corporate ladder who would have had to go up to bat for them for either of those to even happen considering they were blatantly told that the Wedding episode would lead to cancellation.

>>150184833I would be *genuinely* surprised if she contributed nothing creatively. Not only is it her own franchise, but her name doesn't carry weight in a vacuum. Her name carries weight because it implies a certain level of creative quality she's known for.
>>150185308Gross, she looks uncanny.

>>150184833Pretty sure Rebecca Sugar confirmed she's developing it alongside Ian JQ. Steven Universe is Sugar's baby. The show wasn't perfect, but I admire how she remained heavily involved from beginning to end.
