But Taeshi decided she still wanted Lucy in her back pocket, so left things ~ambiguous~ instead of killing her off. 2 volumes and 3 IRL years later, Lucy's back and going through variations of old plotlines, but try as she might, Taeshi can't just dial the tone back to "the fun dramas of sometimes-mean-but-loveable cats" after having shifted to "the tragic drama of mentally-ill-abusive-and-mutually-toxic cats". The suicide attempt is a massive elephant in the room that makes Mike and Lucy being tsundere seem cruel and hostile rather than cute or fun. So Taeshi clumsily tries to defuse the suicide attempt, leaving a bloody plot hole from the retcon in the process.
