Why are Americans afraid of making PG-13 animated films?
Movies that were rated PG in the 80s would be R today
Women
>>150186576Does anything even get rated G anymore?
>>150186598Just the Toy Story films, but that's mainly for consistency I'm sure. TS3 easily could've gotten a PG for "peril" and TS4 for "action/violence"
>>150186598Holy shit, even the Paw Patrol movie is PG
>>150186598Barely. Shrek made it cool for animated movies to be “edgy” yet safe for kids.
>>150186598To qualify for a G rating, you effectively have to have no conflict or action scenes because even mild peril is enough to upset the ratings board. G is for literal babies.
>>150186598most recent I can find using IMDb search is Apple/Skydance Animation's "Luck" from 2022, but that's only because there's a bunch of other animated films clocking in at under 90 minutes that may have been streaming exclusive. there's no option on here to say "show me only theatrical releases">>150186766next entry after Luck was the first Paw Patrol movie. you posted the sequel, I guess
>>150186547Because animation is expensive and you cut out majority of a films audience by putting a few curses
>>150186598Random documentaries, mostly. The occasional foreign film. Nothing that makes any money. I think Gabby's Dollhouse (the Dreamworks live action and animation hybrid) is the first major motion picture to be rated G in a long, long while.I think the last big movie that was rated G was Cars 3.
only other one that springs to mind is this
>>150187806FROM THE TWISTED MIND OF JORDON PEELEand henry selick
>>150186598Barely, because G rating means kids can go and watch by themselves.Advertisers dont like this because how else would parents know what to buy. I mean, Rodimus Prime sounds just like Optimus Prime, dontcha think?
>>150187806It hurts how mediocre this is
>>150186547Gee, I can only wonder why
>>150188075True. I do appreciate what it tried to do even if it failed in doing so. At least the claymation was good. No Aardman tier, but solid.
>>150186547Because the FCC often view animated movies as something as a majority kid audience, so trying to make a PG13 animated movie probably means walking a finer line than just simply going PG or R.Not animated but the Spawn movie kinda works as an example. They wanted to make it pg13 so they could still get some older kids since they knew this would have toylines and SOME kid audience,But the movie's dark setting and literally referencing Demons and Hell, meant that every scene checked by the FCC had 2 strikes against it. Which is why the theatrical release to stay pg13 was so neutered, and when you watch the R rated version you go "was that really enough to make it R?"
>>150188084Nobody wants a dog balls movie nigga.
>>150188084Lol what a bitch move, dude spent months animating this stuff and he can't stand by his painstakingly crafted work? And he calls himself an Artist?
>>150188414Gennedy did
>>150187806God I wanted so badly for this movie to be good. Why didnt they make it good
>>150188375The FCC doesn’t review movies, the MPAA does.
>>150186547>smokingEvil shit
>>150189862You jest, but it genuinely is despicable that we haven't done away with such a barbaric practice entirely. Secondhand smoke shouldn't be an issue these days, and e-cigs/vapes have only made the issue worse. If people want tobacco so bad, there's chaw: It'll kill them just the same, and leave us hale and healthy.
