So I get the other choices for Aang's teachers, Toph had discovered things about Earth Bending nobody else knew and Zuko, while hardly the most talented Fire Bender, was still a powerful one who was raised the guy Aang had to defeat and was willing to learn lost and new arts few other knew about. But Katara? She literally has about the same amount of training and experience as Aang himself, in fact, the one thing she learns that few others do is something she canonically refuses to pass along because it's gross.
Didn't she technically tell him about bloodbending? Or did Aang just free himself through the sheer wild Avatar state? I always assumed he learned a bit of it.

There's even an episode early on where katara gets annoyed that Aang masters a technique she's showing him in a single try. Aang was trained in waterbending along with Katara in the north pole, in between season 1 and 2. They show this. Katara is labeled a great student there at the school, while Aang lazes around. So when they part, their teacher puts Katara in charge of Aang when it comes to water bending. But Aang isn't shown learning anything new in that field because the rest of the season is spent mastering the Avatar state and learning earth bending. So no, Katara wasn't Aang's master. She was more of a classmate that specialized more than he did.
