Are there any characters that you don't really for/grew to dislike based on their personality or stories, but love simply because you like the idea and the aesthetic? For me it's Batman, easily. He gets on my nerves as a character, and even besides his nonsensical codes, I never found him gripping enough. A 30+ Y/O man still stuck on his parents is pathetic. And I detest street level stories, so 80% of Batman is uninteresting to me, even if I can recognise that a lot of it is objectively well written. The actual execution of the concept just does nothing for me.

All that said, I still love the idea and image of Batman. The design and aesthetic are just top tier. They are great to play with in your mind and try to twist and mold. There are lots of Batman-like characters, but he has perfected the look, as it exists at the crossroads of multiple genres. There are edgier and techier character, but Batman's equal parts edgy and Gothic, techy and alien, realistic and fantastical. I can't call myself a massive Batman fan as I like 'The Bat' more than the man, so to speak, but I do consider myself a Batfag on a rather significant level. I have more collectibles than I have comics of him, in contrast to other characters, where I have tons of floppies but little merch as they're less marketed. So yeah, I'm full of Batman, but only because I just love the imagery and the Gothic look.

What about (You)?

Azrael. Somehow the edge just works despite him being such a footnote these days. His Arkham appearance is also kinda cool but when he becomes the Batman in the Knightfall sega I think it is peak over the top character design and representation of an "evil" Batman. Also his catchphrase is pretty catchy:
>Know men call you lier
>Know men call you betrayer
>Know men call you defiler
>Therefore it is the duty of the Angel Azrael to bring you punishment!

The cheesy rubber suit, the glowing red eye, the cape.
It's pure 90s cheese and I love it and I hope that if it's ever brought back, nothing about is changed or mocked for how "stupid" it is.

There's a lot more shitty TMNT material than there is good stuff and even "good" is usually far from flawless.
But do I love the aesthetic of it all. Grimy 80s/90s New York usually seen at night illuminated by the moon and street/window lights, gangs, ninjas, aliens, mutants. Swords and futuristic tech.
It just all somehow works instead of feeling like incoherent slop unsure of what it wants to be.

Spawn is just Batman turned up to 11.

listen, I don't like the guy but the movie version where he grows into the suit and colors it himself looked pretty cool, I like how authentic and homemade the graffiti chest emblem looks too, shame this didn't return in the next movie

Afleck's cowl looks so off to me. I feel like the mouth opening should be wider. Clooney actually had a pretty good looking cowl overall. Keaton's was one of the better ones, but it made his head look huge.

That is why all adaptions should take in past when it comes to turtles. Modern times just don't work for them.

He still looks kind of retarded to me. Cool in motion, but very static and off when in clear focus.

Affleck's cowl is fine, my main bother with his suit is how they added so much padding to give off the rectangular/"fat" look of TDKR when Affleck himself has a much better physique. there are initial BTS images of him in the suit before padding, I don't have them on me right now but it really looked perfect there

It’s hard to believe, but the parents thing wasn’t always as pushed as it has been since Year One/ Dark Knight. I’ve read quite a bit of Bronze age Batman and it hardly comes up.
