Dude had a weird bug up his as about female transformers, and insisted that forced transition was the only way such a thing could possibly exist for some reason. Credit to subsequent IDW writers for doing their damnedest to make it work. Frankly, Arcee became one of my favorite characters in the book once they retconned a lot of that stuff.
