Why do Americans like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) so much?

You still see this old licensing art on tmnt products today. Did you guys know it was drawn by Gil Fox? Golden Age artist born in 1915 and you still see his art on junk at Ollie’s.

>>
>>150207448
Wait Gill Fox drew that TMNT image? Holy fucking shit, I only found out about his Quality Comics covers a few years ago. He's also the reason why some original Quality Comics art survived, because he managed to sneak a bunch out.
>>

Someone took the original image and changed up a few things

Yes, but why? Usually there's some rhyme or reason for why one makes the edits they do, but I don't understand it

The classic Ninja Turtles cartoon is actually coming back to free antenna TV on MeTV Toons.

Americans like Ninja Turtles for the same reason they like Spiderman. Colorful superheroes in New York City.

I'm glad that the Ninja Turtles are against drugs.
Drug dealers and those who supply them deserve to be anally raped in Hell for the rest of eternity. I hope we see more of them be completely vaporized like that boat we hit the other day

Yeah but they became Hero Turtles on TV because ninjas weren't welcome in Blighty. And it was jarring as they were Ninja Turtles everywhere else, including on the playground.
But the cartoon was on television, movies in the cinema, comics and toys in the supermarket all at the same time. I didn't have a Nintendo, so never played the vidya.

How is the current state of American fandom of this series?
>>
Saturday Morning Adventures by IDW is a fun read, but avoid Jason Aaron current run of TMNT like the 13th plague.
>>
>>150210767
The retarded censorship is something I've never understood. Nunchucks is one thing, but this hangup over a word is just baffling to me.
Why didn't other action/violence-oriented archetypes, like cowboys or pirates get this treatment? Shit, we had this kid running around with an airsoft pistol and a plastic badge calling himself sheriff, kek.
>>
>>150211639
I used to be under the impression the Turtles had a good track record for good adaptations for instance 2003/2012 for instance were good adaptations but ironically they both "died" the same way

>Start out at street level fighting purple dragons/foot clan
>Start leaking into more stranger shit with stockman or Kraang
>Starts to get stranger and stranger scifi concepts
>They go into space and the shows start sucking

Rise was the only one that flopped really fast but honestly? I think they made Rise way to close to when 2012 ended. Sure you had grogs complaining but even the new fans you gained with 2012 werent exactly happy
>>
>>150212366
My problem with Rise is not that it's not street-level, I actually like alien/scifi parts of TMNT. And 2012 TMNT were pretty much fighting Kraang since episode 1.
My problem is that it's pretty 1987 on crack and off ADHD meds, so it quickly stops being charming and becomes annoying very fast.
>>
>>150206800
They're turtles. They're teenagers. They're ninjas. They fight crime.
>>
>>150212366
What people think is the normal progression has really never been the case. I think people would really love a more consistent, gradual ramp up, but every fucking series either opens with or waits only a short time before the aliens start showing up. Rise introduced a supernatural undercity full of monsters/mutants in the first episode. 2012 was fighting the Krang in their first. IDW goes only a few issues before introducing Krang, the Technodrome, and then fighting a war alongside the Neutrinos a short while later.
>>
>>150212849
I think even Mirage was throwing the Turtles into space to fight the Triceratons as early as their second issue.
>>
>>150212894
First is vs Shredder, then Stockman and the Mousers, then a silly issue with a van chase, and then they are going to TCRI, finding the Krang, and getting teleported to an alien planet where they meet the Fugitoid.
>>
>>150212940
>finding the Krang
Utroms. Krang is a different character in an entirely different series despite similar appearances.
>>
>>150206800
Nostalgia. 90% of TMNT fans come from the 87 cartoon, or some other stupid cartoon that takes all its inspiration from Cowabunga Pizza Turtles.
Mirage is largely ignored and you have tmnt fabs wgo never even read it parroting the "gritty and dark" bullshit.
>>
>>150213001
You are right. My mind was still thinking about 2012 where all the Utroms are just called Krang for some stupid reason.

It did go to some dark places and there was occasionally some pretty decent violence, injury, and death, but you'd think it was a Garth Ennis the way poseurs talk about it.

This. My younger brother was obsessed with ninja turtles, mostly Raphael cause of how temperamental he is, and the red color scheme. I always danced between Michelangelo and Donatello for favorites, but I always wanted Leonardo toys because he's the the blue one.

Because the concept is so inherently novel, especially for it's time. It's so weird and unique that it taps into the kind of childhood imagination where kids just make up stuff and run with it. There's not much else like it.

Has anyone wanted to see the Turtles fuck? Either a mutant, alien, or human? I know that Mikey conceived a child with that triceratops alien in the Mirage run in the '90s, but other than that the Turtles don't get much action. Also, in some versions where Splinter is Yoshi Hamato, Splinter had biological sons. And what's stopping him from siring some more?
>>

they're sewer children raised off pop culture tv. So I guess they could be nigs, or phillipino rapebabies with a japanese dad.

1. They're the world's most fearsome fight team.
2. They're heroes in the half-shell.
3. They're green.
4. They cut the Shedder no lack.

First off, it was well made with appealing characters and cool concepts. The early seasons of the 89 show, the original comic, first movie, and the Konami games all hold up well. The quality was objectively high for a lot of it.

But I think it was also the perfect mix of ideas for the late 80s/early 90s. At the time, a few things were super popular. Marvel comics and mutant super heroes were huge, X-Men was the most popular comic, and TMNT even started as a Daredevil parody. Ninjas and martial arts were also super big culturally back then. At the same time martial arts movies were super popular and cool, also one of the reasons games like Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat took off so much. Ninjas appeared in comics all the time (Wolverine going to Japan, Daredevil fighting The Hand, etc.) as well as everywhere else.

Basically, TMNT was perfect for the time it came out, because it was a mix of all of the coolest stuff in the world back then. In addition to mutation and martial arts, you had robots, aliens, alternate dimensions, and all kinds of other cool things.
>tldr
TMNT was awesome in the perfect way for 80s/90s kids.

It's honestly hard to believe that people can't instantly see the appeal of Ninja Turtles, it's pure fun. On top of all the cool stuff, it's funny and there's pizza and turtles. Everybody likes pizza and everybody likes turtles.

Mikey should be impregnating Renet.
>>
>>150225731
Yes they should fuck:
Leonardo: Karai, Radical, Lotus Blossom
Raphael: Mona Lisa, Alopex, Ninjara
Donatello: Jhanna, (not April), drunk Irma
Mikey: Renet, Kala the Neutrino, Seri

That gives a good amount for the Turtles to fuck and impregnating. With a wide variety of women being mutants, aliens, human, and even dinosaurs

You'd think at some point they'd actually go there and have the turtles father some children. Some weird fucking Archie comics arc where one of the girlfriends lay and egg and there's a whole extended thing about protecting it and getting it back from some villain before the kid is born at the end of the arc and we get a 2nd generation Ninja turtle.

Mirage comics had them in their fucking thirties, drinking beer, living in apartments with their girlfriends, and doing mundane shit. Next logical step is making babies.
>>
>>150231407
Yeah I could see that happening. They get the egg back and they're rationalizing "well you know maybe it was a dud after all ha ha ha" and then it hatches. exact kind of thing to happen in a weird furry adjacent 90s comic
