30+ anons, what impact did ZIM have on your life?
>>150216024Ruined my sense of humor (in a good way).
>>150216024I was emo/scene in highschool and managed to avoid being a virgin.
I saw this and Spongebob for the first time on cable television at a holiday resort. Later my parents got Foxtel but without the cartoon channels to save moneySoon after saw it all online but it was pretty boring, Tak was a cute purple eyed bug tho, I'd enter her florpus
A mild yet recurring disappointment due to the knowledge that whatever great potential Invader Zim might have had as a show will never be accomplished while the most boring shit ever gets fifty seasons
>>150216024Never saw it but I did have a friend in middle school who was reading Johnny The Homicidal Maniac at the time.
>>150216024It was a very relatable and therapeutic show. because I identified with Dib, someone who can clearly see problems and now how to solve them, but gets kicked around by the hordes of retards I am surrounded by. I know I sound conceded here, but deep down, I feel like a decent chunk of people feel this way.
>>150216926>dib>"someone who can clearly see problems and know how to solve them"Tell me you never watched the show without telling me you never watched the show
>>150216024none because I never watched it
I was always a Cartoon Network kid instead of Nickelodeon, barring specific shows or gameshows like Legends of the Hidden Temple. Plus, things like IZ and Spongebob struck me as being aimed towards a much younger/immature audience than myself. It had that obnoxious lolrandumb humor that was already grating to me. Anybody I knew who liked IZ was typically annoying to the point of actively avoiding them. Then again, I was into some pretty grim shit back then. Never wanted to hurt anybody or myself, I just thought gallows humor was funniest.
>>150216257Tard
Zim,Kingdom Hearts, Naruto and Tim Burton are all things I bunch together and associate with cute art hoes from back when I was in high school. Nostalgic shit.
>>150216024>30+ anonsAll twenty of us>what impact did ZIM have on your lifeNegligible
>>150216926>concededconceited
>>150216024I miss 2019...
Johnny The Homicidal Maniac is better.
I've yelled 'LEAVE NO EVIDENCE' in a public toilet when drunk more than once.
>>150216024It made me prefer pancakes.
I like the cynical, yet hilariously stupid world they live in
I laughed when The Teacher said "ADHESIVE MEDICAL STRIPS"
>>150216024It ruined Santa suits for me.
>>150216024When I was a kid, I always bitched about how you never see a show about a villain doing villain stuff and its always the heroes thwarting them when they're the most interesting part of the story. I was into aliens and Bigfoot and all the other shit, which got me into history and archeology because of the tangential connections to the periods and places these things happened in. Then I found Zim. Zim was my fucking guy. He was borderline retarded but still had plans, he had hilarious slurs for humans, and spent all day trying not to thwart himself but failed anyway. Yet his failures didnt weigh on him, he just kept trying. Dib was characterized uncomfortably close to home but he was funny and actually did his best, which didnt stop the universe from dumping on him at every chance. That's a great dynamic. I learned that even as scared and lonely as you might feel in your fascination with the morbid and weird, there are others like you and they're good company sometimes. I also learned to appreciate angry girls who wanted me dead in a way that proceeded to ruin my love life for a decade.
>>150217686Based.
>>150216024It made me go "DANG THIS SHOW LOOKS COOL" and "DANG THIS SHOW IS FUNNY" a lot when I was like 12. And I recently rewatched it and still felt the same way. What a cool-ass fucking show man. Yeah the fandom was kind of lame back in the day but a lot of fandoms for cool shit are.
>>150216024it cemented my distaste for overly competent antagonistic younger sisters in media
>>150216024miss bitters has a message for you all...
>>150216024I got to finger this chubby alt girl because I sang the doom song.
>>150216024it made me fucking vomit from how horrible and faggot coded it was
>>150216024It made me realize that television animation could look great, have great animation, and push into uncomfortable topics all at once. I had no fucking clue what a nightmare the production behind this show was until years later obviously, funnily enough mostly because of Nick and not the work that went into the show itself. Apparently people loved working under Vasquez.
>>150220000Nice
>>150220040Nobody cares about your projections
>>150216024I stopped watching Nickelodeon after it got cancelled.
>>150216024It was partially responsible for making all the teen trailer trash girls into generic alt-girls
>>150216024Zim was the funniest kid's cartoon on television at that time but Nick didn't know what to do with it and kept moving it around, I was there for the premiere, saw the first season, lost cable.. saw a couple of episodes in 2002 and then it was quickly cancelled after that. Zim's is fondly remembered by everyone who watched it and it was spurned by the network because it did not bring in the numbers they were looking for UNTIL the DVDs and merchandise showed people cared but the problem is they already cancelled it. I'm sure Nick approached Jhonen afterwards and pestered him to come back but they fought him tooth and nail every step of the way while trying to get the show made, and his crew even met his deadlines, so that wasn't a fucking problem like it was with Kricfalusi years earlier. You'd be hard pressed to find an american cartoon like Zim TODAY that's allowed to show kids acting like complete psychopaths, bullying one another, bouncing around with big bulbous heads exploding and dying off screen. Every episode was comedy gold and there was also the thrill and fear of seeing Zim possibly eliminating and picking off kids at school one by one. I liked Dib but I loved to see Zim torture him, I always wanted to see Zim win. Anytime Dib was ostracized, bullied, or made fun of was deserved but he's our maligned hero at the same time. You seriously had to be there and be in the age range I was when this was new. I was 9 when Zim was airing, this show was like crack for me. Zim didn't have an impact on my life per say but it showed me cartoons were still good. The good ones tend to be happy accidents for some reason.
>>150216024LOVE the show to death! The humor and comedy are golden, and it cemented that I'd always love villains! Was also super into aliens and sci-fi, so the space episodes and alien designs were also my fave part of the show!>>150217481Same :)
>>150216024Singlehandedly shaped my dark sense of humor from childhood to now
>>150216024JoJo's Circus is way better than this crap
I still sing this for the holidays.
>>150216024i dont wanna talk about it
>>150216024I watched it sometimes when it was on after school but I preferred the JTHM comics because it was easily accessible and didn't have commercials. I think pirating and streaming services affected me more than anything because it allowed me to watch the shows I wanted whenever I wanted without having to sit through commercials or watch reruns.
