Why are zooms so attached to cel animation?
>>

You said "dude" so now I am convinced that cell animation is dumb, great work

It has a certain visual appeal that digital can't easily replicate, and it'll most likely never be used by a major studio again. If zoomers want to bring the style back then good on them.

Like what? I don't get it.

A poor attempt but at least they got the muted colors right.

It all clicked in when I realized the boomzoom faggots are 3rd-worlders constantly trying to collect data and trying to figure out what's currently mainstream, despite it never working

>more muted color palettes because the animators were usually limited by the number of paints they physically had in hand, whereas with a computer you can use any color you want whenever you want
>subtle shadows from the cels being physically placed on top of each other
>every frame was painted by hand so there's a noticeable texture that digital usually doesn't have

Simpsons did it.

Yeah, they could easily make the Simpsons look closer to the older seasons if they really wanted to, but they just... don't, for some reason

Simpsons even emulated the cel shaded look for a couple of seasons AFTER it went digital, too.

modern spongebob backgrounds are still done traditionally in the modern season, not the line art but they use real paints

What does "cel shaded" mean?
>>
>>150217878
>>150218049
Why are you /co/tards all so negative all the damn time? It's not the best attempt at replicating earlier Simpsons or SpongeBob that I've seen but for what it is it's pretty neat. They even got the loose and expressive drawings right, I feel like one issue many attempts to replicate season one cel animated SpongeBob online that I've seen is that they always forget that early seasons SB wasn't always on-model and had plenty of loose drawings and wacky expressions, this video actually got that detail right.

I feel like 90% of /co/ posters never picked up a pencil in their damn life.

honestly it depends on the quality of the performance; here's some prettty good ones as an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3GvV2BF-Ag&pp=ygUSbWlsayBhcGUgc3BvbmdlYm9i

No. I just hate the nostalgia pandering garbage side of it, that's all.

>If zoomers want to bring the style back then good on them
Okay, but will they actually make it happen? “Want” and “will” are two vastly different things, and I wouldn’t give props to the former since it ultimately achieves nothing
>>
>>150218706
>nostalgia pandering garbage

Or maybe people just want to see how well they can draw and replicate a retro style you fucking retard. This vids made by zoomers who literally never grew up in the cel animated eras of those shows.
>>
>>150218722
Guess it depends on whether or not some richfag decides to fund it like the guys who founded Laika for stop motion

It's kind of like the texturing of old comic books, really, everything has more depth than if it was just pure paintbucket fill-in

same, is funny

>>150218386
why not the line art, why would they put in all the effort to paint the thing traditionally but then do the lineart digitally

That's just low DPI printing. Just like everything people say about cel animation colours stemming from old cameras used to capture the cels. This was never how the artist wanted their work to look
>>
>>150217924
The real thing is a labor intensive process and I'm pretty sure animation cels aren't manufactured on the same scale as they used to be. For example, Ed Edd n Eddy kept going with cels until the supplier for Dan's studio went out of business.
The "look" can clearly be imitated though, though you'll probably not see it used in mainstream cartoons as production budgets are already squeezed thin as it is.

>>150218018
I think out of all of them, EEE did the switch the best.

Same reason we like CRT shit or VHS now. Half of us wasn't raised with it and the low fidelity that comes with either is something new compared to an era of lossless HD animation while the other half of us was raised with it and are nostalgic for it. You also find that colours are more muted and the outlines blend into the scene more with drawn cel animation, and due to it being labour intensive the way cell animation is directed scene to scene is different from digital. It's subtle, but it's enough for some autists to latch onto and fixate on as a preference. If I recall correctly there is a scene right now collecting old DVDs and VHS copies of cartoons as new studio re-releases are starting to "upscale" old cartoon seasons instead of the original cel look now.
