I read 6 issues and I can't believe I liked a modern comic. Don't care for the art much but the writing and presentation are actually interesting and kept my interest and had me wanting to see what happened next, like the olden days.Have any of you anons been surprised by a modern comic that you liked?
>>150244762>Don't care for the art muchBaffling. Without that specific art it wouldn't be nearly as good.
>>150244762The writing is mediocre it’s the art that makes it spectacular. Camp simply isn’t a good writer, outside of this he hasn’t had a single good comic.
>>150245209>>150245227Naturally /co/ has the opposite opinion.>>150245227Not sure how you can read a comic if you think the art is great but dislike the story/writing since it essentially just becomes an artbook
>>150244762I'm buying physical copies I loved this shit so much
Yeah, I think both the Absolute and new Ultimate lines have been shockingly readable with one or two exceptions, and even for the exceptions their greatest sin is being boring, not actively terrible.
>>150244762>>150245209>>150245227>>150245849>some people like the art, while claim that the writing is mediocre, while others say the writing carries, while the art isn't their piece of cake. If anything, I think this proves that the comic had something for everyone. because despite what people like, they agree it's good.On the other hand, Absolute Martian Manhunter is a limited-issue comic, so real question is: >would it be better if it was something long-running considering how it's actually something good?or>Is it good BECAUSe it is limited issue? (Meaning, if the story was stretched or expanded, would the quality actually drop over time? Alternatively would the art become boring after a time if people got used to it, if this was a long-running series?)
>>150245953Ultimate Black Panther. I don't know what it is exactly, but I am actually invested in the story. Surprisingly I never felt like "this was made only for black people", like I do with most modern marvel works that have black characters.
>>150246051Quality would likely drop over time, but it really depends on how long they think they can carry it and keep consistent quality or how long they feel they need to tell what story they want to tell. If they think they can only go 12 issues without a quality drop or the book getting too wrote and familiar, thats a bit short for what I think the potential could be but I'd accept it. If they think they need 25 issues to do the full story, I say do it. If they need 50, do it. But it definitely doesn't need to be ongoing forever. Eternally running series are the bane of quality. Tell a complete story and it will be higher quality that something that just has to continue forever just because.
>>150246106UBP is not among my favorites but I do think it’s had consistently good artThompson’s Absolute Wonder Woman might be the most pleasant surprise of either line along with AMM.
>>150246359*too rote
>>150246363>Ah yes, WW.Why is it that almost every Altworld WW is good, while main often goes shit?
this may sound stupid but what are some good martian manhunter stories to pick up? ive always had a passing interest in him since seeing the jla cartoon but ive never gotten around to comics till recently with the Absolute title
>>150245227>Camp simply isn’t a good writerand other popular lies on /co/
Gunn snuck a reference to it into the last peacemaker episode so I wonder if there will be enough internal pressure to keep the absolute stuff around long term.
>>150249343I hope so, Abssolute WW Absolute Bats, Absolute Sups, Absolute MMH and Absolute Flash are the most fun I had with comics in the past 6 years.
>>150244762I like it for the art mostly. The writing is alright; it's trying something less common and not doing a horrible job. I don't like any other Absolute or Ultimate book.
>>150246051I think it could be great as an ongoing, but I don't think editorial would ever let it. The absolute books are clearly trying to do the hard shonen thing, but that still means pretty familiar big supporting casts and one-upping of stakes. AMM isn't that, it's zeroed in on its main character and has a tiny cast. I'd love to see that stretched out over 100 good issues, and I'm sure it wouldn't be as risky as editorial fears, but it won't happen. For now I just hope they can stick the landing. 12 issues or 100, a good ending isn't easy.I will say though, I don't know how Absolute Superman is going to drag out its story much longer. It seems Superman's already seen the pinnacle of Lazarus, what's stopping him from taking them down by issue 20? But I have no idea how long these books were even planned to run for. And Flash is just a snoozefest. The others have potential that I hope they can meet.
>>150250070>what's stopping him from taking them down by issue 20?He should. I don't think his story should stop at Lazarus. There are many more options. Similarly how Absolute batman isn't just focusing one enemy. This superman isn't yet the symbol of hope.
>>150250207>This superman isn't yet the symbol of hope.Superman being "The Symbol of Hope" is retarded anyway. He is a big strong guy who punches people
