>>150249108I'm not on the executive side so I'm not sure but they base off sucess off how much profit it makes so if GLITCH is making bank I'm sure theyre seething lol. I do sense a small change of something though.
>>150249070I think because my job already allows mr to insert my own ideas to a degree it satisfies the urge of being involved and not just drawing what they tell me to. What does the industry think of indie?
>>150250455The industry and indie's are both steaming piles of shit. One is unoriginal and produces copy and paste content, just like those youtube content farms while indie shit is boring with low budget it leads to either poor animation, or poor writing
>>150250485Also industry creates propaganda for the "great" American empire which explains why industry animation feels uniform and cookie cutter
>>150250455They have hope on indie but i just wish indie wouldn't perpetuate the exact same issues the industry has. Whats the point if theyre going to do the same shit, plus they arent union and I prefer being paid and having benefits. Anyways, all aside everyone I know does hope indie starts taking off more.

>>150248279Will there be some kind of event where people can pay to beat up artists a little bit as a fundraiser
>>150250713I'd say the problem is since the industry is located in California, you are always going to have the aggressive political messaging, and shitty low effort art styles.Since backers/funders/investors all want to look for esg scores or brands with propaganda that's what studio exec's will always lean towards
>>150249647I think those kind of news only make waves within the small circles he was in. Ngl I didnt know who he was until now lol. Anyways, might also be because I work in action which is a different crowd than people who would work on FOP.
>>150249709Its probably the easiest its been now to get a job without being in LA. No one wants to fucking show up in the office so most jobs let you be remote, I know plenty of people who work from outside of California. >>150249794Because executives don't let us do absolutely anything.
Is animation dead? What advice do you have for a person who wants to be an animator
>>150250793I think most people enjoy 2D, although i think 3D is finally starting to do something interesting that isnt just realism. 3D is also cheaper to ship to outsourcing studios and studios jerk off to to being cheap sooo
>>150250807I dont think its dead or will ever be, you should go for it. Theres plenty of avenues now to find work and if you're really good at something you will be noticed.
>>150250825>3D is also cheaper to ship to outsourcing studios>3D is the poor man's animation Ha I knew it! I knew all these 3D slop movies were cheap feeling and the inferior version of 2D
>>150248279I've seen online artists say that conservatives cannot be artists. I'm not trying to get into a political debate here, but how hard do you think it would be for a conservative to work in your industry?

>>150250845I dont think its impossible and depends a lot what role you are pursuing, but from my experience in storyboard circles everyone is very openly progressive. But again, it depends on your role and if you even work in person to begin with. A lot of shows are remote or dont require you to show up in person so its not like youre interacting with coworkers daily.
>>150250937No idea who they are

They give the stupidest notes and go in circles for bullshit. Executives just keep fucking everyone over and putting their grimey hands on everything.
>>150251019Mostly progressive.
Do you think the U.S. animation industry could motivate itself to beat Japan and France when it comes to artistry and entertainment? Not just pumping out low quality stuff in bulk?
>>150251059You're talking to a dirt eater, anon. She hasn't replied to the previous times this has been implied.

>>150251134why is so much of your identity tied up in your imagined persecutionnobody's gonna be mean to you because you're not anybody worth being mean to
>>150251134The way i see it potentially going down specially in an office setting is that if an opinion comes up, after some back and forth realizing you're on the conservative side, the topic just quietly gets dropped. I don't think people want to particularly get into an argument, and they'll stay cordial with you. Theres plenty of gen X'rs who are obviously more conservative and just say shit sometimes, but coworkers are coworkers lol. As long as you're normal about it and not looking for an argument I think you're fine, specially if they know you're not american.

>>150251418Thank you. I will treasure this gay flower forevermore.
>>150250803>Because executives don't let us do absolutely anything.I try bringing this up every time anons start shitting on artists for fucking something up. My guy, who do you think is telling artists to do this shit? Who do you think greenlights shitty shows to begin with? Artists got into drawing initially because they wanted to make cool shit.
>>150248279What do you and your co-worker think about this?
>>150251526Yeah, i think about 70% of issues on shows are executives. Not that I think artists are creative geniuses, I think a lot of times they yave retarded takes and ideas but the worst of the worst on shows tends to be because some executive fucked us over and couldn't let go some stupid shit
>>150251567How does it come down? Does the executive send out a memo, or does your manager relay it to you?
>>150250803Very uderstandable. But is it really impossible to push back against them or at least negotiate? The only person who really managed to pull that off was the og creator of Ren and Stimpy. at least until he got fired, of course. But he somehow had a lot of power.
>>150248279How long do you think it will be before storyboarding picks up again for someone who hasn't done their first job yet?
>>150251588Depending on the note, we get told during pitch meeting or a message through Teams
So it is, indeed, the jooz.
>>150251633You can negotiate but it's just meeting after meeting from what ive heard. Different times Different execs, etc. If youre too annoying then you might not get another job if you push too hard
>>150251696Depends on your work. If you do feature or action you can still get work. If you do something thats more like SU or Owl House then it'll be a while. Industry seems focused on action to try to compete with anime.

>>150250455Nta but everyone I've met seems to want indie to take off because while they would like to just be an industry darling who's turned into a massive titan whenever they hit push back or things don't work out they like to daydream about being able to tell the execs to shove off and basically pull an Image and turn into a huge success that surpasses the industry.

>>150248279What do industry people think of the beanmouth style and generic adult animated Family Guy ripoff styles? I'm gonna have to assume they hate them seeing how much execs force that bland shit onto shows.

>>150248279>>150252408thanks for doing this btw!
>>150248279Are you gay? Are you a gay man?
>>150251122> studios just never let us.PFFFTT AHAHAHHAHA no you just suck at it even if you're given the freedom to do so. You can't adapt to Japan's equally retarded way of doing things with their retarded keyframer animators that are basically overglorified animatics which should remove the need for storyboard artists. Remember when Tom & Jerry had 4 animators and 4 background artists max per 5 minutes? You wouldn't. And they colored their own frames, not like you. Judging from what you're saying the environment is fucked from -1. The executives/producers gatekeep you and pick the biggest losers possible who lack self awareness and lack observational skills, just like a pedo fucking a child, that's what animators are; work labor visual artists getting abused by pedos because that's what you deserve. Animators are nothing but work labor cause you don't have real ideas of your own, you overspecialized in motion and AT BEST drawfagging optimized UPA animation and when somebody asks you to write a script you go "uhhhh a ballerina and a rock climber" fuck you Glen Keane and fuck all animators, you're why animation will always be dogshit cause there's always better alternatives, it's called live action. And live action TV SHOW adaptions are filled with equally retarded SHEEPLE AND SLAVES >Look man I'm just trying to make my nut ye know, just trying to get by while doing what I enjoyYeah because you trained yourself to be an easy replaceable slave who thinks he'll become the master*gives you the reigns*C'mon faggot animator, c'mon. Write a book. GO AHEAD *Abbot & Costello SMACK* go ahead write a book, I dare you.Go ahead give me 5 meta ideas, give me 5 meta ideas to change the production style and animation ideas. The best your young zoomer mind will come up with is some shitty compilation story. You're treated like a slave cause that's what you trained yourself to be, you don't have the ideas of a jack of all trades. Till then you'll stay a bitch.
>>150248279Since you work in action, would you like (and be able too) to work on an action series like The Batman and Jackie Chan's adventures? Also, if you're willing, can you pass the word that they should reboot Di-Gata the Defenders? If your execs want an action show without punching than warriors using magic stones for spells and guardians/pokemon for close combat might be their niche.
>>150251079>They give the stupidest notes and go in circles for bullshit.HAH as opposed to you. >Executive: Hey can you add a pink bow so people know she's a girl? Or can you make the character point out clearly that she's a girl?>Progressive animator: I don't want to treat my audience like idiots, it's obvious she's a bisexual tomboy and he's a gay brother who only behaves flirty with her cause that's what gay brothers do and he wants to uhh not steal her boyfriend but just have him for one night... it's complicated even for me, okay. Ugh isn't it obvious? I mean I won't treat my audience like idiots, let them figure it out.
>>150249528Uh huh and your studio is too creatively bankrupt to utilize magical punches, physical lazers, tentacles, shields, 4-8 elemental powers, magical knives, constructs, pokemons/summons/yugiohs beating the shit out of each other. ;) and obviously too retarded to socially manipulate an easy to manipulate boss. Oh oops it's because (You) are the ones easy to manipulate. You deserve each other.Right now, right here. >>150253930Yes they are mentally insane and refuse logic because they created an environment that refuses honesty and logic.Put a competent person in charge? All the other retarded people ask "What are we paying you for, mr executive?" asked by another executive. Why does the bear shit in the woods and why does the bee make honey. You want the 1% of the 1%. Cartoons used to be better in the 90s and 2000s? Yeah! money, technology, education and no economic crisis in 2008 destroying writing schools and people were more mature back then due to no retarded internet, browns and hearing nothing but dumb people around them. If you hear too many dumb people you start spouting dumb shit.Yes they pretend they're goodguys because this is a generation of idiots without identity who are bad but pretend they're good just like most millennials, zoomers, alphas and the executives lackeys. If I hear one more "Jerry mouse is the bad guy" out of a fucking zoomer I'll become a billionaire. Politicians, executives, piece of shits and their useful idiots are so everywhere that I started dreaming them. Why the sudden boner of the west trying to copy/"being inspired" eastern Japanese anime on cartoons, like amphibia, the owl house or stuff like korra, she-ra, avatar, adventures of superman etc.
>>150249528kek i think i might know what show is that
The cartoon industry just wanted to spread joy and passion and make everyone happy...
>>150248279You like cartoons?
>>150248279Do you see potential in Loki IRL?
Bump. No way I’m letting this thread die too early.
>>150248279Do you know Joe Johnston? I went to school with him and saw he worked on shows like Steven Universe and Amphibia. Let me know if you've got any stories about him.
>>150248577>Alien boy twink involved? But Invincible starting coming out years ago.
>>150248279How can I shove my music to be used in cartoons
>>150256703Just make yourself known online. People underestimate how often people get jobs online. Workload depends on the type of project. TVA, Feature and Commercial all have very different expectations. Never done Feature but from what I've heard the ranking of crunch from least/less often to more crunch is Feature>TVA>Commercial.
>>150256849Yeah French studios are based as fuck, argentinians are catching up a little too
>>150249090>quirky gremlin typesHow do I harm this kind of woman?
>>1502575911-depends, i say no-2-not common3-no4-not common, you get hired if you can do the job5-not if your union, but depends on your role6-not common, people are normal 7-yes, everything goes through endless note meetings. Nothing made was originally as intended.8- thats the people who are actually still getting jobs in the current state of the industry.9-no, its shittier but i dont think it will die10- yes but artists are trying to mantain it11- i dont really know, animation has trends.12 and 13 idk14- because its being successful and companies want a piece of the pie. I do hate anime references though.
>>150261108No, i dont work on those type of shows so I wouldn't really meet him
>>150255988Yes, thankfully have job security for the next year
>>150252289No, i dont even know where this rumor started lol. We just work in whatever style the showrunner wants and is producible for us and the outsourcing studios
>>150252560No im not in that kind of role, thats for the supervisors and showrunners. I do have to record scratch audio sometimes tho, im rly bad at it.
>>150253044I think you forgot your schizo meds.
>>150253423I dont pitch. I dont want to make my own stuff. Seems a lot of people are under the impression we all have some sort of pitch bible lol. Anyways most of us don't care to pitch something.
>>150248279What are your hopes for the industry? Do you think the industry will ever expand beyond California?
>>150248279What were some of your craziest experiences while working in the industry?
>>150263586Than why is the beanmouth style so common then? I’ve heard somewhere that there isn’t a mandate for the style but execs tend to steer pitches in that direction, if the person pitching the show says no to beanmouthing their characters would the show just not get picked up? What do industry people in general think of the beanmouth style, you said you work in action, do opinions on the beanmouth style depend on the area of the industry you’re in?Furthermore what do people think of this generic adult animation style? It looks unironically worse than beanmouth.
>>150253532Because I want to draw not make executive desicions. I just wish those making the decisions right now weren't retarded and knew how to draw a stick figure lol.
>>150256157Agreed, not as bad for me but im so fucking tired of references. Writers love shoving references as well.
>>150256513They wanted the artist to go back on a 3d model and change the length of a characters shorts. It was a background character no one was going to fucking see more than 1 second.
>>150256936Ive gotten commercial jobs through social media so it's not all connections. The people that matter will find your stuff one way or another.
>>150259993Sometimes
>>150263965This is honestly a mystery for me as well, I don't work in this type of shows but my assumption is that every time something like this gets pitched the references for the style is just other adult shows and everyone working on these shows can't draw anything else so they just get passed around the same type of shows. Not that this doesn't happen for other kinds of shows but I think adult animation is particularly a bad case of the art incest.
>>150248279Have you experienced mandates to include LGBT+ themes in cartoons you're involved in the production of? If so, has it been happening less often since the election?
>>150265243Sometimes I wish I could see what you people imagine happens in productions lol. Anyways no it doesn't happen like that. All of that is also from the writers side not mine.
>>150263479>Nepotism not commonOkay now I'm suspecting this is just a larp
>>150265443Heres my desk from a few gigs ago
>>150253044Didn’t read but, meds.
>>150248279I know to sort of varies depending on what gig you’re looking for, but if I may ask, What would you say are the fastest ways to improve your art/design sensibilities, specifically in relation to finding an opening in animation? Or what are recruiters looking for most in portfolios?
>>150265815A little hard because it does heavily depend on what you want to break into, but the bare minimum is to have strong draftmanship and to be easy to work with. Speed does matter too since it's all deadline based, just get the job done on time and you're good.
>>150248279how would you feel if you didn't have breakfast this morning
>>150248279Where is a good place to start learning how to draw?
>>150265815Realized I didn't answer fully, doing studies of other artworks is a great way to improve, I tend to learn easier through other people's shorthands of stuff, I'm a visual learner so sometimes I just keed to see how others do it to fully wrap my head around it.
>>150265990Grumpy, been walking all day
>>150266005Honestly just pick up a pen or pencil and just sketch anything you want. I think it's always best to just draw what you want even if you don't know how to draw, because if you go straight into trying to perfect it it just becomes a chore. Just draw whatever you feel like, have fun, and once you feel ready to move to the next step then dive into fundamentals.
Since Gumball got sold to Hulu, how are the chances of Adventure Time: Side Quests and Regular Show: The Lost Tapes also moving to the Disney owned service?
Why aren't you helping more people get jobs?
>>150265042That's a fucking gaslight and a half
>>150266350I don't have that power lol
Ok calling it a day here, tired of replying. It was fun talking to you guys, always interesting seeing what people who arent in the industry think about it and how it works lol. As a final note, it's never been easier to get a job without being in LA, if you're good you'll ne noticed.
Can you give a hint on that "The Elephant" special from Ian Jones-Quartey, Rebecca Sugar, Patrick McHale, and Pendleton Ward that's coming to Adult Swim
>>150265332So in the Owl House. the LGBT+ stuff is on Dana?
>>150266428Fuck you, tens of thousands way better than you rot unnoticed. You just got lucky. Yes, this comes from a place of bitterness. Nonetheless, fuck you and I hope you're scrounging for scraps on LinkedIn within the year with the rest of them
>>150266528Just get better bro, skill issue
This thread is almost like someone wants us to think people in the industry are assholes so we care less when they get laid off by the thousands hmmmm
Hmmmmmmm
>>150248279>I work in the industry in the US. Ask anything you want. Won't disclose the company I work at though.I think you should go back to work.
>>150266428Thanks for the thread, it was very enlightening. always cool to have a visit from someone who actually knows what they’re talking about.
>>150267104Benson?
>>150266428I find it interesting, that right now is the best time because of how difficult it is to land a job these days (Was applying to mostly rig work, had mediocre stuff at the time and didn't knew about the tax rules). How do you think one should go about spreading content online that catches the algorithm, as I feel my motivation is sour and doing my best to work on a short film so I can put my work out their. Thanks for the thread hope your doing well, and not stressed!
>>150266607Western animation is dead.
>>150248279Say there are 2 cities, A and B, and the distance between them is 250 miles A car departs city A at 8 AM, travelling at 45 mph, while at 9:30 AM a car departs from city B, travelling at 60 mphWhen will the cars meet and will this meeting point be closer to city A or city B?
>everyone in the industry is out of work>threads whining how the whole "Survive till '25" thing didn't work out>this guy: easier than ever to get work, just be good at drawing and someone will come to your social media and hire you. It's happened to every single good artist on the whole internet after all! Smells like larp>>150265663Wow absolutely beyond all possible doubt now
>>150265042>>150266385It's true, I'm not OP but after I tabled at Anime Expo one year either through someone who took my business card there or someone who stumbled upon my socmed/Etsy shop afterwards contacted me to be the artist of an already written Dark Horse graphic novel. I had to back out after I signed the contract because I got hired by a different studio full-time but they never even asked me for a resume or anything. If you hit a certain skill level and make interesting work/have a consistent art style that someone is looking for the offers will come to you.
>>150269816I think you misunderstood op, he said its easier than ever to get hired without having to live in California, you just have to be online to be found
>>150248279Why does the industry attract so many perverted manchildren?
>>150270240He said " if you're good you'll ne noticed", "The people that matter will find your stuff one way or another" and "you get hired if you can do the job", all of which are painfully untrue when there are thousands of superb artists out there who didn't get the right lucky break and don't get jobs. This is all survivorship bias and how would someone who DID get lucky by being in the right place at the right time know any of this? It's at best naive and at worst vicious. And don't give me "You just need to git gud." We all know there are countless fanartists who are much better than countless working professionals. From, y'know, being on the Internet for more than a few minutes
>>150248577>Alien twink involved?I'll keep that in mind
>>150248279What is your favorite cartoons to work with?
