What makes a show like Invader Zim beloved, while shows like Mighty B, Fanboy and Chum Chum, and Breadwinners either mixed or disliked? Sure, those shows had a lot of yelling and screaming, but Invader Zim had a lot of that too and people loved Zim even with that, but they criticized Breadwinners, Mighty B, and Fanboy for having yelling and screaming
>>
>>150251630
Not being generic or half-assed like the latter.
>>
>>150251630
Is Zim the only good show out there with a lot of yelling and screaming? It seems its hard to pull off, because most shows that have a lot of yelling and screaming are either negatively received or mixed
>>
>>150251649
It mainly works because it works with the bizarre, dark comedy setting where just about everyone is insane.
>>
>>150251690
Yeah I'm assuming this. It's the juxtaposition
>>
>>150251630
Zim is the epitome of random humor, it does it well and it does it right, non sequitur after non sequitur to leave the kids reeling and giggling from surreality, while still keeping enough of a structure and coherence (even insanity can have coherence) enough to keep intrigue and not fade into genuine nonsense.
You can get randomer (contrast 12 oz. Mouse) but doing so will lose a lot of people as you go into the wild zone where nothing means anything and you may as well be taking drugs.
>>
>>150251649
Recently I've been watching a cartoon called Les Sisters, which by default will have yelling and screaming considering its nature, and its generally well-recieved, although it does use rigged animation.
>>
>>150251708
Invader Zim ruined an entire generation
>>
>>150251715
You're not wrong. But to wallop a generation you have to be doing something right. The Beatles weren't particularly amazing musicians, they just had what the world wanted.
>>
>that crossover with Dandadan
>>
>>150251649
I mean, what do you count as yelling and screaming? Dragon Ball has a ton of it, but I'm gonna guess that's not what you mean.
>>
>>150251822
That counts. Basically anything with a lot of yelling and screaming counts. I'm basically wondering if there can be good shows out there that have a lot of yelling and screaming and Zim and Dragon Ball seem to be two examples of that
>>
>>150251630
Huh...
>>
>>150251630
Bump if only for the fact that this one of the few threads on /co/ that's actually attempting to genuinely discuss cartoons in good faith

they're just the same exact ADHD-ridden show that aired on Nick during the 2000s, but they're not the first. I may say that Angry Beavers, even Ren & Stimpy, and yes even SpongeBob or Fairly Oddparents (which the latter aired on the same night as Invader Zim) were first when it came to characters yelling and screaming and also having exaggerated disgusting, even photo-realistic close-up shots. The animation community get mad at the internet over late-00s Nick shows because they're either "not from the 90s" or they're expecting to be just the same as these shows, which I find both areas to be hypocritical

>ADHD-ridden
What does this buzzword mean? Fast-paced? Colorful? Overly "lolsorandumb"?
>>
>>150254829
but I said that dude
>>
Zim has elements of satire and black comedy underneath the screeching.

I intuitively understand what it means I was just asking for clarification. As someone with inattentive ADHD I've always preferred slow, peaceful, calming cartoons. Watching stereotypically "ADHD-riddled" cartoons is nauseating.

Zim is cool and edgy, those other shows are spergy
>>
>>150255192
In other words (Invader Zim has a wider appeal)
>>
>>150255129
No worries. I have ADHD too and I grew up watching these animated shows as a kid. To answer your question, yes they are fast paced, colorful, random and all brainrot. But let's all admit, we all grew up with a lot of that shit. For me, I've been invested in Newgrounds and albinoblacksheep during the 2000s, and most shows I've watched on Adult Swim (including reruns of Family Guy, American Dad and Futurama) is mostly humor dedicated to just that, such as Robot Chicken and Aqua Teen, even right now with Smiling Friends
>>
>>150251630
I thought Mighty B is well liked?
Also cause Invader Zim is nothing like the shows you listed, it's dark, weird and merciless, in a good way. While the other shows are bright and generic and annoying. There really is no other Nickelodeon show I can think of that's like Invader Zim. It really is just so unique.
>>
>>150255207
No, I mean the content of those cartoons is actually retarded.

You can have fast-paced, colorful shows that are good, like Sam & Max, while others are basically jingling keys for hyperactive kids.
>>
>>150255271
Spergs are notorious for being above average intelligence thoughbeit

All I know is they smell like pee and have bad tastes in cartoons
>>
>>150255946
Wiping my pee off is inefficient if I'm going to pee in the next few hours anyway. Don't call me out like that.

Considering how season 2 was dramatically worse than season 1 there is simply a lightning in a bottle quality to making something like this.

I saw Breadwinners premiere and thought "Nick is trying WAY too hard to make their own Regular Show."

Basically felt like picrel
