Extra air intake and exhaust pipes to stop the engines being flooded with water since they were landing on beaches.
>>
>>150277033
>What is THAT on top of the tank?

Deep wading gear, basically a giant snorkel installed to prevent water from getting into the engine and allow the tank to be driven off a landing craft into water as deep as 10-20 feet and roll up onto the shore.

>Is that accurate?

Yes, both Deep Wading and Duplex Drive Shermans (ones equipped with propellers and a removable flotation screen to allow them to swim from landing craft to shore from as far as 2 miles in ideal conditions) were used extensively in the Normandy landings. The deep-wading ones actually wound up fairing better than their DD cousins because the weather was so rough on the day of the landings that nearly all of the DD Shermans wound up sinking well before they reached the beach.

I assume the idea would be to get Mexico and the US into a sitzkrieg, with both sides too busy eyeballing each other while he did his thing in whichever European country he was annexing at the time.
And if that broke out into a war or occupation, so much the better. Problem was, Mexico wasn't dumb.

Both. The Germans were autistic about revanchism and thought Mexicans would still have harsh feelings towards America after the Mexican-American war. The truth was that A: Most Mexicans didn't really give a shit about that by that point, B: They actually had established pretty amicable relations with the US in the years following that, and C: They knew they'd be fucked in another war with America regardless and had their own problems to deal with. I really can't underscore how insanely fucking autistic the Germans were about revanchism during this time period and how much of that they projected onto other countries.

>Carlos was later adopted by a platoon of US servicemen and changed his name to Dondi.
>>
>>150279955
The first time it was because German subs kept sinking ships of neutral countries headed to Allied countries in Europe, they sunk a boat with 100 US passengers, and the US told Germany to piss off or else they’d come in.
Germany backed off for a bit, but then started sinking boats again, and their idea of keeping America from entering was to ask Mexico to attack the US to keep them too busy to help much oversees.
Just… not sinking boats probably would have been a lot easier.

For two different engines, Im assuming? Were they really that heavy or is one more of a backup?
>>
>>150286735
Some Shermans did have twin engines but it's simply that the front one is for air intake and the rear one is for the exhaust. Water in either means water in the engine and water in the engine means engine stop and probably not go again. Which you don't even want to happen in your car, let alone a tank in the middle of a battlefield.
