I think that "children's stories" shouldn't exist. Making art specifically for children is infantilizing at best, mentally damaging at worst. It's the main reason why Disney adults are a thing and they have the literacy of children. It would be good if children's stories actually served a purpose in elevating a child into more adult content, but from what we've seen, that isn't the case. They're used by mass corporations to indoctrinate people into endless nostalgia loops and emotional attachment to their products.

Stories should be good no matter what age you read them at. Anything else is insulting the intelligence of children.

I think we're at a point now where you can't just make something and say "it's for children" since there's barely any market for it anymore. Everything is slowly becoming more and more for adults anyway. There's a natural tendency for children to look at works aimed at adults.

I think fuck you, don't tell people what kind of stories they can write.

Why do you blame Walt Disney for playing the game right. Not his fault he managed to play off society's wishes back then, which indirectly caused the present
>>
hey why not just let people tell stories
and do the age stuff after the fact

that way you dont have to censor yourself or force gratitious sex into what you make

and the stuff just serves the story, the story doesn't serve the stuff

>I think that "children's stories" shouldn't exist.
I think that bot threads that get reposted regularly shouldn't exist either, but here we are yet again.

Saying something is for children is a neutral observation. It doesn't actually explain or demonstrate if something is good or bad.

I don't fully agree when people say "Stop dumbing down kids movies, kids are not stupid!".
There is currently an entire generation of kids obsessed with nonsensical garbage like skibidi toilet and Roblox. Earlier this year, The Minecraft Movie made significantly more money at the box office than actually good movies aimed at children from the past five years like Spiderverse, Encanto, and The Bad Guys.
Can you really blame Hollywood executives for misunderstanding what kids want when little Timmy is running around shouting "chicken jockey" and rewatching Moana 2 for the billionth time?
>>
>>150263521
If you constantly give kids one type of thing, then of course they're only going to want that one type of thing.

Nothing has changed. Except the channels and movie studios, they just forgot how to appeal.

Then they seethe that a character says "stealing is fun" in a sarcastic manner because they think children are retarded.

Stephen Hogenburg didn't get diabetes for this.

Just because you don't understand why kids are watching Skibidi Toilet and playing Roblox doesn't mean that they're doing it because they're stupid. I mean, kids ARE stupid, but the argument is that you shouldn't treat them as such, or else they'll be stupid forever.

Kids are watching Skibidi Toilet because it's short, flashy, and one of the few action shows still aimed at children. It's essentially no different from Transformers; giant robots swinging at each other and screaming. And kids find that fucking cool. In an era where every cartoon is either wacky SoL hijinks or brown girl adventures, it's no wonder they flock to something as simple as 'here's a guy blowing up a helicopter to save the earth! What more do you need?'
Kids are playing Roblox for much the same reason you played flash games back when you were young; because there's such a wide variety of games to play, more coming out every day, and the moment you get bored of one, you can just swap to another. It's fast, engaging content; that also happens to be filled with pedophiles.

You can argue that both of these are childish, shallow distractions instead of deep, thoughtfully crafted media, but both of them are simply filling a niche that doesn't exist anymore. And the niche doesn't exist for a variety of reasons, but, these are things just filling the vacuum. When there's no other option, of course children flock to what remains.

Roblox is a game from 2006. It's older than the Nintendo Wii.

Children's literature has existed since at least the time of the romans.
I'll hazard a guess the person who wrote this has a cultural critique degree, and REALLY FUCKING HATES Disney specifically and America generally.

Trouble is my good anon that making stories to be accessible is kind of important for getting audiences on board. No one cares about your artistic bullshit if you don't meet them halfway, fundamentally their lives aren't being improved by exposure to your million-dollar daydreams.

The reason Disney adults are dumb is because they don't actually like cinema or animation but have been unfairly categorized as fans of both because demographics are the fetish of psycho booklice and for some reason, they're the ones trusted by our highest officers to inform cultural development going forward.

What does it mean to write stories for children? Self-censorship based on race, creed, sexuality, and depictions of violence, or writing in the language of children.
>>
I feel that people have problems accepting that children are people. Parents especially. Because children will exhibit sexuality, greed, violent thoughts, etc... it's something that adults have difficulty grasping. Even in liberal circles, where nowadays there is a prevailing belief that children have no agency of their own. This is contrary to the old way of thinking, which painted a more sociological, less economically based picture of how children behave.
>>
>>150272069
>I feel that people have problems accepting that children are people.
This is pretty much the biggest issue. People think that they're fundamentally different creatures that happen to become normal when they turn 18.
>>
>>150265014
Exactly. Their mainstream entertainment is mostly slop by adults who want to tell children what is best for them and their parent’s wallet, the kids smell that and go for the shit that appeals directly to them instead because they have internet.
>>
>>150270316
Lol
>>
>>150260886
Your primary issue seems to be the inability to discern between art and entertainment products designed to make money. That's a far more serious issue than whether or not silly pictures for kids are good.
>>
>>150274594
I judge entertainment by the same metrics as artwork. They should be judged the same on their function.
>>
>>150273218
Children deserve better than the shit they get now.
>>
>>150265014
They're not, Skibidi Toilet is far too violent for kids and they're jumping (if they haven't been a main stay) to Minecraft because Roblox is on it's deathbed and might become another Club Penguin where it's only kept alive by fan servers.

Kids NEVER found giant robots swinging at each other and screaming cool, in fact they always found that lame, what kids do find cool is stuttering pigs, ducks who lisp, and wise cracking rabbits who bug people, thats what kids and adults find cool.

Due to Roblox's pedo problem they jumped ship to Minecraft, and they rather be playing Mario anyway.

This could've been an interesting thread if OP was smart enough to say "censoring blood/violence/nudity/etc to make something more 'kid-friendly' actually makes it less kid-friendly." but he isn't.

That is the case, it's clear that you never watched Skibidi Toilet in your life.

Transformers is one of the most successful kiddie franchises out there. Optimus Prime's death in the 1986 movie was one of the most infamously child-traumatizing moments in film.
