Could 616 Spider-Man be redeemed? Or its far beyond repair?
>>150275031How to fix ASM:Just undo OMD. That's all these stupid fucks talk or care about. The exact same plot as this could be happening, but as long as MJ and Peter are smashing the "fans" will cheer. Spencer already proved you could shovel actual shit down readers throats and they'll lap it if those are together.
>>150275031Bring back Carlie Cooper and 616 will be saved!
Not under current editorial.
>>150275031a new team and new editor could either just retcon the whole shit or act like it never happened and never mention. For me that would be enough as long as the new stories are more in line with the old spidey story that made me like the character in the frist place.just treat peter with respect again, get ride of all the spider copycats and write more personal, street level plots
>>150275760Pretty much this, the book needs a top-to-bottom house cleaning, anyone currently involved needs booted and there needs to be a "Hal Jordan fear bug" level retcon I'd say not just from One More Day but I'd say around Avengers Disassembled
>>150275031Easy.Just retcon it so that the Peter and Mary Jane that made the deal with Mephisto and afterwards to be Clones. Then kill off the Clones and have the married Peter and Mary Jane together.Boom! Easy fix!
Just replace him with miles at this point even if you made it that omd never happened Peter is still gonna be laughing stock that got cucked by hipster named paul
>>150275193only retarded whorefags talk about it that's why marvel will never give them an inch, they will take all of their money though
>>150275031Fire Lowe and Cebulksi and Brevoort.
>>150275031All it takes is a very simple shift, but it would be a pretty radical departure from the status quo: stop making bad comics, and start making good ones.
>>150275031Get a better writer. Get an editor without a huge ego. Stop using gimmicks like Tron suit or cosmic spider-man. Stop turning his support cast into supes.

>>150275031>Could 616 Spider-Man be redeemed? It's all the same to me at any rate I have always wanted to see her experience the DP so her being fucked by both of them at the same time would be a dream come true for me.
>>150275031>Clean out editorial. Lowe is the most public facing problem, but I’m sure he’s not the only one. >Make use of one of the greatest supporting casts in comics instead of leaving them in the dust or giving them superpowers.>Bring in a team that wants to tell Spidey stories that don’t revolve around storytelling gimmicks like “what did Peter do” That’s where I’d start

>>150275031The only way for 616 Spider-Man improved is for everyone involved with the character to die in a bus accident. Including Joe Quesada since even though he left Marvel he can still come back to ruin Spider-Man. Same goes for Steve Wacker and Dan Slott. As long as these divorced creeps and incels live, Peter Parker will never improve.
>>150275031I think the current run is a massive step up, but that's not enough to remove the stain Wells left behind. That main issue, silly as it might sound, is that Peter is not banging enough, and Marvel has written itself into a corner with this. They are too stubborn to use MJ. Felicia has to be free to make out with girls to chase that gay audience that totally matters so she and Peter can never be more than casual. Then there's Gwen, who is so dead Marvel has turned her death into a massive joke. So Peter needs a new main squeeze, but no one is going to be able to fill those shoes. Shay sure ain't it.Silk or Norah could have worked but Marvel fucked those up.
>>150278978Marvel REALLY really wants to push PeterXShay because of the MCU (with PeterXMJ). Blame the MCU for ruining everything (again).
>>150279109Shay doesn't even have anything in common with Michelle Jones, and the later was a weird interpretation of what they considered the 2010s equivalent to Mary-Jane's personality. What a strange thing if so.

I think what I find most depressing is that even if they did fix everything, say they had Pete and MJ hook up tomorrow, get married and we all move, it will still be pretty hollow. It will just be a bandaid fix to get us back where we were, but it won't be threw the same memorable milestones, it won't have the same great impacts, it will just be forever cracked and broken. We might move on get with it but the damage will always be visible.
>>150284118to establish them as friends so it doesn't come out of nowhere when Marvel ships them together
>>150275031Might be?
>>150275031There is nothing to fix in the sense that there is nothing good thats left.Peter has no supporting cast, no love interests, he doesn't have friends both in costume and out of it (besides Felicia on occasion when she isnt written out of character), and worst of all, the majority of Spider-people running around have consistently been portrayed as better at being Spider-man than Peter.Name one single thing Peter currently has that thats not just inertia from previously good stories.
>>150278978You managed to make a nubile nympho asian no one likes, let go already Slott. After Spider-Man 3 cements her as frumpy girl powery cardboard in the mind of casuals, she's done.
>>150286554Wearing the corpse of one of Warlock's people. Maybe he still knows a few spells.
>>150277617That's not what Ditko intended at all. The Green Goblin was going to be the objectivist shadow Peter would be tempted to succumb to now that he was a proper, "adult" hero. Norman's relationship with Jameson was going to make Norman a much more subtle villain, but he couldn't relay that to Stan Lee or Stan would give it away.
>>150284215Yeah, that's the truth. Retcon it, but by goodness, years of comics rescanned? That's pretty shallow. And Paul happened. There's no way out of it.
>>150287164There's always the good old "never happened" way I don't think anyone would miss any post OMD stuff.
>>150278978The problem you miss is that editorial and possibly some writers don't really treat the love interests like characters, they come off more like props for easy drama or comedy. That's why none of the BND love interests worked at all.
>>150287312Inevitably there is some anon who comes in and says that retconning all of the post OMD stuff to never happening would be equally worse. At this point I think retconning it wouldn't be too big of an issue. Marvel's universe and the continuity is so fucked and everything is divorced from each other that Spider-Man being put through a prolonged arc/arcs that do abridged or remixed versions of post-OMD stories, or completely new stories until they reach the modern day wouldn't be too bad with me. If they do that then they could retcon Civil War and other shit. I know that happened before OMD but Marvel just needs their comics razed and brought back to square one. But OMD being undone specifically just needs to recontexualize each post-OMD event by introducing new stories that show how those stories changed and/or were prevented.Like the Rebirth gimmick of having the character remember stuff from the previous timeline. Maybe some arcs are flashbacks that take place within that new timeline when Peter was simply in character and not post-OMD OOC Peter.
>>150275031No. It’s fucked. It’s fucked beyond repair simply because everyone in charge is a spiteful little shit who would rather see the company go bankrupt than undo OMD. And they’ll never have to, because the slurpers buying the issues are the real problem. There’s no incentive to change if people g-g-gotta get their spider-man fix.Accept this, and move on.
>>150287698>Inevitably there is some anon who comes in and says that retconning all of the post OMD stuff to never happening would be equally worse.I don't think I'd go that far but just the thought of the past 20 years being so worthless they get waved away is depressing on a more profound level. I honestly wouldn't miss any of it but that's just too much time.>Like the RebirthRebirth happened comparatively a lot quicker. The whole New 52 last only five years. The big problem with all of this is just it really has been too long. 20 years. It's honestly just a sobering reflection on the whole hobby.
>>150275031i know people are going to talk about the marriage but for me the problem runs much deeper than thatthe only way for Spider-man to be redeemed is if Peter gets his fucking balls backever since BND it feels like Peter's character didnt go through just flandarisation but he became the straight up parody of his archtype, the down on his luck Nerd who just goes ''aww shucks'' at every problem in his lifei miss when Peter got genuinely angry at shit, i miss when he had a snappy comeback that was more than just sarcasm or pop culture refference, i see Peter getting made fun of by other heroes and he basicly just tilts his in defeat and says ''haha guess i am a bit of a pest'' while old school Peter would have blasted them with a good rant or would have made fun of their shortcomings, especially if it comes from any Avenger
>>150278978is it too late to still hit up Betty Brant?
>>150275031We have to go back in time to 1996 and rewrite from there.
>>150288343Agreed. If he was married, we would have the same shit, but they would spare a narrative bubble for MJ.The marriage can't spare Pete from mediocre writing.

>>150275031I just hope this space adventure is cool and Peter have fun
Of course 616 could be redeemed, but that would require the editorial to want it to be redeemedAs it stands currently the point of the last ~5 years of ASM was tanking Peter's reputation so twitter can say things like "I used to dislike Miles but ackshually he should now replace Peter" when Miles replaces Peter as the main Spider-Man in #1000 instead of Marvel's offices being burned down
>>150275193>Just undo OMD.This. Make Norman meet Sister Sorrow as Green Goblin then undo OMD. Quit pointlessly larping as Spider-Man.
>>150287698>Inevitably there is some anon who comes in and says that retconning all of the post OMD stuff to never happening would be equally worse.I feel like it's someone from Marvel, maybe Slott, who's insisting this. But considering how they tried really hard to erase much of the past, I think it's only fair that most of the stuff from the last 20 years get jettisoned, since they don't have genuine progress in most of them. A lot of them just reset Spider-Man back to square one, or minus one
>>150288343Wholeheartedly agree.Old Peter was always ready with a quip, his humour had bite in it, hence why characters even got baited and distracted by it.If anything, more scathing sense of humor was an extension of Peter's temper, which was a big part of his character and also part of the reason he couldn't shut up (because he acted before thinking). Making him just reference-spamming motormouth takes away a lot from Spider-Man. There's a lot of ironic quipsters, and there's a lot of crude ur mom edgelord jokers in Marvel, old Spidey was memorable because he was neither.
I don't think any writer cares enough to take on the daunting task of actually fixing ASM. They'll slap bandaids on a man dying of gangrene instead of amputating and cutting out infected flesh.

>>150289410It's odd how Marvel only attracts the mild whackos, never the legit unhinged ones who would harm others like you see with DC
>>150289563Lmao it will be hard carried by normalfag who like SV Miles and Gwen, and also by schizos like "Gwen is trans" crowd
>>150289579>implying normalfags aren't filtered by Shameik Moore and the married Hailee Steinfeild
>>150288685>>150288693>the man who killed Peter's first long-term love and played a big role in his best friend's self-destruction comes back, kills his daughter and brother, and completely gets away with itThe end of the Clone Saga is so damn bleak.>this man is now Peter's best friend after being magically purged of his villainyModern Spider-Man is so fucking dumb.
>>150289994>Modern Spider-Man is so fucking dumbThey should help themselves and undo OMD. Picrel is located towards a few pages before >>150288991
>>150288343I think him beating the shit out of Kingpin in front of his men for ordering the hit on Aunt May was the last hurrah of that kind of Spidey.I miss the days when the X-Men were basically the one group of people who never underestimated him and genuinely had his back.
>>150288679>Aunt May dies in a properly sad manner>Pete and MJ leave NYC and have their baby>Ben takes over as THE Spider-ManIt was fucking perfect. Why didn't they leave well enough alone?Like almost NONE of the big stinker stories Spider-Man had to go through since then would have happened.
>>150275193You should also sack the petty retards in the Spider-editorial and replace them with somebody who's not retarded manchildren. JUST undoing OMD is not enough when people who endorse it wholeheartedly are still in charge.
>>150288343Yeah, people really forget just how short a fuse Pete had back in the day. That was like 80 percent of his problem right there.
>>150277657It is canon.
>>150289573Well I dunno, reading some Marvel interviews about back then it was probably more cutthroat and there was the period of various books competing against each other which when in an environment like that, there's less room for legit crazies to stay. Sure it might stress out people and turn them crazy but then they would go away. Now it's just the mild crazy of libs who slavishly present themselves as following the crazy radical liberal ideas but probably only care about money.>>150289005>>150288168It's a tough pill to swallow and it could prove to look very embarrassing to outside people but in actuality the people reading would welcome it wholeheartedly. It is very sad that it has been that long (minus most of the Spencer years), but for everything has that been done to readers and consumers of the book, editorial needs to get shit down their throat creatively speaking and they need to chew on the fact that they pumped our shit for 20 years and now they need it fed back to them. And it's best to just do it by dismissing their own fantasy of what Spider-Man should be and show that's not the right idea at all. Like even if the book doesn't recover for a while after, at least it is in the same ballpark as what the book is supposed to be about and could have some quality writing. But at this point, they deserve spite and nothing but.
548965 variant covers
>>150275031Peter and Felicia marry in #1000.There, redeemed.
>>150291871One gorillion variant covers. That will be 3.99-no 4.99-no make that 9.99 for the issue with 3 back up stories all with limp joketelling, unfitting guest artists, and teases for future stories that go nowhere, and nothing will ever be the same.
>>150291949Not gonna happen but the resurrection of Gwen Stacy will not a clone this time bur rather the real one then again they may do a sequel to OMD and do the intended ending in which Gwen never died and is still Peter's GF
>>150288343I MISS WHEN SPIDER-MAN SAID FUNNY SHIT.Now it's just lame stuff, and the characters call it lame, and even Peter calls himself lame. Fuck's sake.
>>150275031I just wonder if they'll even really try before he hits public domain.
>>150292079Writers got less confident over time because they came from colleges that didn't teach them well or were consumed by ideologies that don't reward hard work but they also themselves probably didn't feel like branching out beyond their comfort zone of media they know and like which means their jokes get samey, they get less confident, but they still have the job because corporations and execs are dumb with no taste, so then they have to justify why they still have a job even though they can't write or make good jokes. So yeah, Spider-Man isn't funny anymore because people don't like negative things that are inherent to people that are also beyond what they are comfortable with. I'm writing this story where a main character will be racist and sexist in subtle ways and will have to be confronted. And it will be a gradual process. Something that is painful and awkward. Because writing can be like that sometimes. Especially when trying to write funny jokes. You gotta do all the painful shit away from everybody and come back with gold and make evrybody wonder how you did that.
>>150292284Why should they Spider-Man won't become public domain untill 2057 they can remain ignorant untill then. Not that it matters since Marvel will be long dead before that time.
>>150291651>Unable to refute, just keeps spamming nonsense about his fanfiction.
>>150275193>t. Mind broken Marvel employee
>>150275031I fell for the Spencer hype and got bamboozled.I can't read USM ever again.
>>150292810>USMYou mean ASM?
>>150292835Oh shit, yes ASM.
>>150289224Sony didn't mandate Brevoort writing that dumb Spider-Manifesto
>>150292742it's canon dumbass
>>150294040How come Mephisto and OMD have no Magic the Gathering cards, but Spider-Gwen has more cards than the original 616 Gwen Stacy? How come there are no Paul cards? How come there are no Jackpot cards? How come there's no card where Paul rapes Dylan Brock??????
>>150291557>Oh no, I payed rent, what an idiot I am!Spider-man was meant to be relatable, right?
>>150294629Mephisto is for a later expansion. He's not really a Spider-Man character and is just dragged into his nonsense.

>>150277765This post made me get the joke, damn.Peter, Paul, and Mary. Band known for Puff the Magic Dragon. My mother used to listen to their music all the time when I was a child.
>>150275031Hopefully Peter and Felicia can meet again by chapter 1000
>>150291949Do the people who make these posts genuinely believe this could happen and would magically fix everything?
>>150275031>could 616 Spider-Man be redeemed?done
>>150280714lol no we dont
>>150295811Cool AI slop!
>>150295811Fucking KILL yourself, nAIgger
>>150295052Silver Surfer, Ghost Rider, and various Dr.s have a higher claim. Spider-Man is a side gig that just looks inflated because of Spider-Man's borderline main character of the universe status.
>>150295811Cute!
>>150296149Mephisto is just a big gay genie who gets mogged by people like Norman Osborn, Sister Sorrow, and Dante.
>>150297345That is an insult to genies. Also gays.
>>150293285He did it for free, is what you're saying
>>150294803You can spend irresponsibly on your responsibilities. What's he gonna do to eat? Steal? Fuck you. How dare you suggest he'd steal to eat. That's not responsible at all, is it mother fucker?
