Did people back in 2007 really think this was funny? I was like 4 so I wasn't seeing this movie.
>>
>>150280248
You are too young to post on this website.
>>
No, the movie just aggressively promoted it in advertising for some reason. It wasn't even really a highlight of the film.
>>
>>150280275
It was an interesting insight into the execs minds that they really pushed this part even though it's a minute of the movie or so.
>>
>>150280248
I thought it was laugh out loud funny
>>
>>150280248
It was funny in the trailer as a rapid fire gag lasting two seconds.
>"Why are there hoofprints in the ceiling?!"
>"Spiderpig~Spiderpig."
And that was it. The movie itself was unfunny. The gag dragged on way too long and it wasn't funny. It was about Marge losing the last shreds of copium she had during an emotional moment.

I laughed till my knees hurt and I couldn't breathe!
>>
>>150280248
I thought it was really awkward, around this time they had a lot of really flat jokes that are hard to sit through
>>
I was like 7 when it came out so I thought it was the funniest shit ever. But obviously through adult eyes it's just a forced joke they made for trailers. The pig probably only appeared in like 4 or 5 scenes so the joke falls pretty flat
>>
>>150280337
Op is 23, past college and the younger zoomer memes.
>>
>>150280363
The mid to late 00s had a bunch of humor that ended up aging really poorly, it's kind of like its own miniature period for that stuff. Fosters Home is a great example of a show that relied heavily on that kind of humor and has largely aged like milk because of it.
>>
>>150280424
ROFL he said cheese this'll never get old!
>>
>>150280392
>The pig probably only appeared in like 4 or 5 scenes so the joke falls pretty flat
They thought it was so funny and iconic that they've referenced him in the show a few times.
>>
it was a mediocre movie that people only really liked because it was still miles ahead of the god awful state of the show, funnily enough even current simpsons is better
>>
>>150280538
That's not true, people LOVED seeing Bart's penis.
>>
>>150280514
Damn really? How did I miss that? I was kind of a fan of the show for a little while until I really started to see how shitty it got
>>
>>150280573
Yeah, he's been in background scenes and has been part of a couple B-plots, like when Maggie makes friends with a bunch of animals, he's there to help her save a possum from Cletus. I think he works for Luigi's restaurant.

Shame you missed out on such a legendary moviegoing opportunity. Simpsons was always treated as an all-ages thing in my house growing up
>>
>>150280248
it was fucking hilarious the first time
unfortunately, it was dumb as fuck after the 4th or 5th time, and we all saw it dozens of times because that's how TV ads were.
>>
>>150280248
It got a big laugh in my theater. Just Homer being silly.

It wasn't funny in so much as it was interesting enough to make you ask "oh they are doing a Simpson's movie wow i haven't thought about the Simpson's in a long ass time, i wonder if it would be funny in context or something. It wasn't funny even with full context, it had some moments that were kind of funny but mostly crap. I can't even remember a single joke from this film. I was born 1993 btw.

I saw it in theaters at 12 and was kind of bemused by the whole thing. Why even make a Simpsons movie, I thought. The only things I distinctly aside from the premise was Bart's penis, that spirit Indian pointing with her enormous knockers, and Spider-Pig, but only because it completely dominated commercials.

The only time I remember really laughing during the movie was when Homer was on the motorcycle and kept going up the loop and falling down. Rest of the movie is boring.

>>
>>150280248
I still think its pretty good, they even referenced spider pig in the spiderverse movie
>>
>>150280248
The movie is a generic formula of "main character ruins everything then must fix it to win back everyone's love", wearing a Simpsons skin.
>>
>>150280248
>>150280275
Maybe they were making it around the same time as SM3.

Springfield is contained, the pig silo pollutes the towns water. Cut to a shot of all the residents marching towards evergreen terrace with flaming torches & pitchforks (Probably the most iconic shot in the entire film) They escape through the sandpit sinkhole & then go on.. holiday? so weird

I forget the plot point that has them return to Springfield. Overall the meteor episode where they cram into Ned Flanders bunker was funner and more memorable "Whatever will be, will be"

i truly believe this was the first astrosurfed corporate meme, like it wasnt even that funny of a joke. people in the theather got a sensible chuckle but it didnt warrant all the attention it got
>>
>>150286562
reminder that they had to rush this scene into the movie when someone at a test screening pointed out they never established homer can ride a motorcycle
>>
>>150287664
The best scenes (really, the only good ones) are before the plot picks off. Funny how that works.

>>150288251
I think Marge finds out the EPA is gonna destroy Springfield but Homer is the only one who doesn't want to save it.
>>
>>150280248
No, most people didn't think Simpsons were funny past the late 90s, and that's being generous. The Simpsons sucked ass for years by the time the movie was released.
>>
>>150280248
It was put in the movie for the sole purpose of being a trailer clip. The intention was never for it to be funny.
>>
>>150280248
No, because the commercials and trailers ran it into the ground
>>
>>150288645
>they never established homer can ride a motorcycle
It would have been funnier if they hadn't.

>Homer dares Bart to skateboard around town in the nude
>Bart gets caught by the cops and Homer screws him over to avoid getting punished for neglect, which leads to Bart starting to bond with Flanders instead
>Homer finds a pig that's about to be slaughtered and adopts him
>meanwhile Lisa and her Irish love interest that never appears after the movie convince the town to stop polluting the lake after it kills Green Day
>Homer stores the pig's shit in a silo and proceeds to dump it in the lake
>the entire town is now so badly polluted that the government has to seal it in a giant dome
>everyone finds out Homer's responsible and forms an angry mob to kill the whole family
>they escape and run away to Alaska
>they find out the government wants to nuke Springfield and turn it into another Grand Canyon
>Homer refuses to go so Marge and the kids ditch him
>>
>>150285980
Louis should have been allowed to jerk off in front of as many women as he wanted for the interview where he kept asking Rumsfeld if he was a lizard person.
>>
>>150289115
I forgot how much of the movie required Homer to be an 11 on the Jerkass scale.
>>
>>150280248
It was really well advertised. A lot of the more quotable jokes were referenced irl a lot. Never in my life did I here someone say it was a great movie, or even a good piece of Simpsons media.
>>
It was the perfect ending for The Simpsons. Unfortunately, Fox didn't take the hint.
>>
>>150289459
It's a business. As long as the franchise makes money, through the show OR merch, they aren't incentivized to stop.
>>
>>150280275
I think it was an early attempt at marketing via a forced internet meme.
>>
>>150280268
You're just old, boomer.
>>
>>150289167
>louis ck did that
I don't normally say this but everything he's accused of is true
>>
>>150289459
I think "Homer's Enemy" is a better ending.
>>
>>150290370
When you think about it Homer was way less of a jerk in that episode
>>
>>150285945
Yeah, that checks with my experience, that and the fake out "to be continued" were the only moments that got a laugh, they were OK jokes for the time.
>>
>>150290370
I too watched EmpLemon's video about the episode anon.
>>
>>150288671
This, I remember seeing early youtube ranters complaining about how shit "modern Simpsons" was in 2006.

Opinion article from 2007 complaining that the show has been shit for 10 years.

The sequel is gonna at the very least have some crazy animation we know that much
>>150288599
Had an official ringtone download too didnt it?
>>
>>150291236
There's a sequel confirmed?
>>
>>150290849
It's almost interesting how enduringly awful the show is. You'd think they would accidentally hire a good writer at some point. Or a guy who would at least write some fanservice or something.
>>
>>150280275
>No, the movie just aggressively promoted it in advertising for some reason.
>>150280303
>It was an interesting insight into the execs minds that they really pushed this part even though it's a minute of the movie or so.

Yeah, I wonder what culturally-relevant thing might have been going on at the time to make them think a silly Spider-Man reference was a good thing to jam into all the marketing. Oh well. Guess it's a mystery!
>>
Bender's Big Score dvd commercial sticks in my mind. I didn't see it in theaters but the dvd was burned into me. Whoever put together the big score one is good at timing. Billy West's Zapp voice is the prototypical 50's parody man voice I have in my head like the church of subgenius.
I posted this earlier asking why Colin disappeared. I looked it up and just saw he appears in that one intro and that's it. Weird. Would like to see a joke at least in the sequel about him or maybe he returns I dunno.
It definitely should be about corporate america taking over Springfield and making the town soulless and the town as well as Simpsons trying to save it. Mr. Burns either helps, leaves, or helps the evil corporation but is a comedic relief in his incompetence.
>>
>>150280248
Seeing Homer look at that pigs anus made me giggle like a school girl.
>>
>>150280275
This, I have never seen the movie, I assumed it was just about Homer playing with a pig and Bart's penis.
>>
I thought it was called Spider-ham
>>
>>150290849
>article from 2007 complaining that the show has been shit for 10 years.
Whoever this critic was, they had good taste. 97-98 was season 9, which is arguably when the lineup started to get overrun by forgettable/regrettable episodes. It's actually kind of jarring to look at the episode lists and see how many must-watch classics there are in season 8, while 9 has practically nothing. Was there a big writer/staff shake-up between 8 and 9?

The only reason to even keep season 9 around is because it's got the final performances from Phil Hartman.
