Howdy,

I haven't read any comics or visited this board since King's Batman ended. I vaguely kept up passively for a bit until around when they turned Jon Kent into a fag and then I dropped off entirely due to disinterest.

I just caught up on Absolute Batman though and I'm really liking it.

Are the other Absolute books worth reading or are they not as good?
>>
>>150294212
>Are the other Absolute books worth reading or are they not as good?
try them all and see if you like them . if you dont like issue 1, drop it and try the next one. dont let others tell you whats good or not. the people on this board have shit taste if you're liking absolute batman why not just try the others and see what clicks with you.
>>
>>150294212
Absolute martian manhunter and absolute wonder woman are equally amazing and 100% worth checking out
Absolute green lantern is ... Okay
Absolute flash is ... Okay
Absolute superman is ... Something i suppose
Just check them out they are good
>>
>>150294282
I generally agree people on this board have shit taste, but there's a few oldfag posters that haven't fallen to brainrot that have really good recommendations I trust.

>>150294283
This is very helpful, because Absolute Wonder Woman and Manhunter sounded like they were worth reading, while Superman I was more on the fence about but from what I've read it has some sort of connection to Ra's al Ghul? Don't know if that's accurate.

I guess a question I have is are all the Absolute books in a shared universe or are they entirely independent? I'm assuming independent but I couldn't easily find a conclusive answer.
>>
>>150294427
>I've read it has some sort of connection to Ra's al Ghul?

Right now he's the main villain of the story.
>>
>>150294427
>I guess a question I have is are all the Absolute books in a shared universe or are they entirely independent?

I only read Absolute Batman and Absolute Superman, and I haven't really noticed anything that show they're a shared universe.
>>
>>150294461
>I haven't really noticed anything that show they're a shared universe
Okay. I'll probably read the first issue of Superman and if I don't like it I'll drop it.

I'm mainly wondering because (and it's probably intentional misdirection) Absolute Alfred Pennyworth looks so much like Ra's al Ghul that I was wondering if that was going to be a twist later on. But if he's already in Superman and they're a shared universe it probably isn't going in that direction.
>>
Just got to this page.
Maybe I've just fallen for too much culture war posting, but I cannot BELIEVE that DC would run a page like this in their most popular book in the current year.
Are we so back?
>>
>>150294671
I'd doubt that Alfred in Absolute Batman could be Ra's. The character design of Ra's in Absolute Superman's very different and a lot of Ra's typical stuff is shown in Absolute Superman.
>>
>>150294212
Absolute MM and Wondy are great, Superman is interesting but it’s veeeerryyy slow and the story hasn’t done anything noteworthy yet, no idea about the rest but I remember GL was considered the worst because it started picking up
>>
Anyone have any idea what direction they may go with the Absolute versions of Lex Luthor and Reverse Flash? With how crazy they've gone with characters like Mr. Freeze...
>>
>>150295228
>Reverse Flash
Hopefully kino. I trust Lemire, he's not a retard. (generally)

As for Luthor, I have no faith in an interesting incarnation unless they drop the businessman aspect and he goes full mad scientist like the old days.
>>
>>150294427
>guess a question I have is are all the Absolute books in a shared universe or are they entirely independent?
shared universe but none of the books have really mentioned each other outside of Absolute Green Lantern, all the books are separate, and you can enjoy them on their own at least so far
>>
They are suppose to be connecting in a one shot Absolute Evil:

Veronica Cale forms a Secret Society of Super villains with Joker, Ra's, Hammond, Thawne and Brainiac

It's likely the meeting Hector Hammond talks about in the most recent issue of AGL
>>
>>150295668
What's Green Lantern about? The synposis on Wikipedia didn't tell me much but it sounded like it was some sort of Stranger Things ripoff? Is that accurate or not at all?
>>
>>150295403
I could see one poential interesting angle. With how much more tech Absolute Superman uses, have Luthor start as an ally but have the two take a path similar to Orion Pax and Megatron - maybe with a dash of IDW's Senator Shockwave with him starting as a Senator or other elected official as a replacement of business influence and going hardcore mad scientist later.
>>
>>150296006
The first five issues are sort of Cosmic Horror in a The Day the Earth Stood Still kind of way, so a big Alien descends on a small town, and it's all the characters reacting to it with a big, mystery for why this Alien is in here and what he wants and some of it gets explained in issue six but not all of it.
I'm not sure where the book will go in the future
>>
>>150294427
Oldfags have shit taste.
>>
>>150294764
we are somewhat back kind of sort of
>>
Okay, I've started Absolute Wonder Woman and so far this is cool as fuck.
>>
>>150294212
Wonder Woman's is probably the best out of the bunch. Martian Manhunter's is good too. Superman is ehh, but that's mostly because the book is mainly supposed to flesh out the larger Absolute Universe. Green Lantern's is a slow pace and may read better collectively, Flash's is kinda mid.
>>
>>150296006
>>150296125
It really does feel like a modern sci-fi slow burn horror show/movie, like The Mist or some shit. Basically Ewing completely uprooted the Lantern lore and put his own spin on the energy. Instead of the emotional spectrum, it appears to be layers of universal understanding, black being the bottom/fear with yellow/gold being the peak enlightenment
>>
>>150294212
I enjoyed Absolute Batman for what it is. A ridiculous over the top take on Batman. Absolute Superman is sort of interesting for what it's doing to the usual formula but I'm not entirely really sold on it yet myself. Similarly with Wonder Woman and Green Lantern. I kind of like what's going on with Flash too. Honestly they're all at least fine so far I feel and will probably each appeal a bit more or less depending on personal taste. Read whichever look interesting to you first and go from there if you enjoy them.
>>
>>150297169
That sounds interesting. I think when I'm done with Absolute Wonder Woman I'll start it.
I'm probably going to pass on the rest of the lineup, except for maybe MM and Flash, since I generally like Lemire.
>>
>>150294212
I gave them all one issue to sell me on it. The only one I've read more than issue of is Martian Manhunter.
Rank based on issue #1s:
Martian Manhunter > Batman > Wonder Woman > shit > Superman > Flash > Green Lantern
>>
>>150299678
>I gave them all one issue to sell me on it.
That's kinda stupid. For any comic I'm trying out usually rule of 3 works
>>
>>150297169
Ewing basically made it a version of Cosmic Gnosticism, which does make some sense since Darkside literally is the demiurge that made a worse seperate universe to make people suffer
>>
>>150300525

>>
>>150294212
Jon Kent happened years before Tom King's run ended. You don't need to pretend to be a casual to mask your bad opinions on liking Absolute Batshit OP, you disingenuous fuck
>>
I like this version of Batman a lot.
Can't wait for 12 to dump soon
>>
>>150294764
Clay Mann always delivered the cheesecake. Even in crapshoot stories like Heroes in Crisis.
>>
>>150300725
>Jon Kent happened years before Tom King's run ended
King's run ended in 2019 and Jon becoming a fag was in 2021 you try-hard cocksucker.
>>
>Absolute Batman
A jacked construction worker wielding an axe and driving a dumptruck fights the entire cast of Resident Evil. Absolute kino, 10/10.
>Absolute Superman
Rich people bad. AI bad. Tries to bring Superman back to his Golden Age roots without fully getting it. Ra's is the villain for some reason, I have no idea why. Brainiac looks cool at least. 7/10.
>Absolute Wonder Woman
Doesn't really pull me in like the others, but it's not bad. I like the contrast between Diana's edgy backstory and her incredibly cheerful and kind personality. 8/10.
>Absolute Flash
Has some cool concepts. Not bad. 8/10.
>Absolute Green Lantern
Pretty interesting. The pacing is kind of slow, but I really like how different it is from the main Green Lantern mythos and how it blends the Golden Age and Silver Age concepts. 8/10.
>Absolute Martian Manhunter
Trippy kino, it's like cosmic horror Disco Elysium. The art is amazing. 10/10.
>>
>>150294427
Shared universe. There's an upcoming one-shot about the villains (and Green Arrow) that explains what happened in this universe's Golden Age.
>>
>>150295228
The early issues seemed to tease Reverse-Flash being Wally from a bad future where he lost control of his powers and became a monster, but now it seems like they're just doing Thawne.
>>
>>150301854
Objectively true for most
>>
Oh, and there's also a FCBD one-shot about Mirror Master that teases upcoming stories. The only ones that haven't been followed up on yet are Despero (or "Despair-O") and Dr. Fate.
>>
For the Absolute Flash, I like how Thawne looks in the guest artist style vs the main artist. She feels like she has flare
>>
>>150302072
While I do think its an okay read, man from the jump the art style was too generic. (Which is funny coming from me since I liked Absolute Superman even though it had the most generic style from the OG three.). And as soon as I saw how she will look normally, I sighed.
>>
>>150299740
Given the names working on this Absolute line, you kind of already know what you're in for. A one-issue test is totally fair.
With one issue, you should be able to measure if a series will be worth your time or not.

Posting Absolute Batman spoilers since they're hitting twitter anyway thanks to the kindle release
>Bruce is exhausted, escaping Ark M with Waylon. Waylon begs Bruce to kill him because his hunger hurts. Bruce can't, Waylon is enraged, flees into the sewer. Bruce collapses from the entire ordeal
>Bruce wakes up after damn near a month in his cave, Alfred recovered him. He visits his mom, who is thankful he's alive considering what Bane did to Bruce's friends. Bruce demands to see them all.
>In an attempt to "break" Bruce and make him like himself, Bane has utterly decimated his entire friend group, the first Wayne visits is Oswald in the hospital.
>Bane sees that Oswald has an inferiority complex, going to the gym and wearing lift shoes, so Bane systematically broke every goddamn bone in his body to the point where he's a disfigured freak in a hospital bed who will easily lose 2 feet in height. Currently has a feeding tube.
>Bane criticizes Harvey for the line he rides between the law and enabling Bruce's illegal activities. He sets him on fire, and holds Dent's face to the burning floor forever scaring him. His skull was also split in half down the middle (fixed but he will have mental trauma). A poker chip burned on one side is Harvey's "coin"
>Bane apparently challenged Eddie to a game, and he lost. Bane pushed Eddie's brain to the front of his skull, and Bruce finds Nigma in his workshop, putting parts of his robot into his very head. Eddie is elated and considers this awakening a gift, seeing the world clearer.
>Batman and Alfred prepare for Bane in a final confrontation, the cave is breached
>Alfred is incapacitated, but not by Bane. It's Selina in full Catwoman garb. She says hello to Bruce. Issue ends.

>>150304269

I'm caught up on Absolute Batman (until today's issue drops). I read up to Issue #4 of Absolute Wonder Woman. I'm really liking it but I had to stop to focus on some work. Whenever I get free and finish Wonder Woman I'll probably read Absolute Martian Manhunter next, and then maybe try out Absolute Flash.

I find it funny that the mainline Superman's storyline is to stop Darkseid, but the general response to the Absolute line is "yo, let Darkseid cook".
>>
>>150311091
It is funny that the supposed worst versions of these characters ended up gathering more attention than the alternative. It does make me dread what will finally happen once the main line thighs start making their way towards this world. Unless the idea is that at the end the Absolute universe saves itself and the main line decides it's better to leave them be.
>>
>>150311690
This is DC, they will do some bullshit like "they are now part of the mainline continuity!" or something like with watchmen
>>
>>150311718
Yeah I hate it but you're probably right. Better to enjoy the ride now while it lasts I guess.
>>
>>150311757
I hope all these series are built with a terminal end in mind. Though knowing DC and its greed I'm sure they'll go on as long as they sell well, story structure be damned.
>>
>>150311776
I give it 20, maybe 30 issues max before they make another blunder and decide to axe them
>>
>>150311776
Man I hope so too. Knowing there's an end goal story wise for these instead of the potential of them just forcing things to go on and on would be a big relief.
>>
>>150310974
The lesbian from Overwatcher?
>>
>>150311690
The issue that started drawing in mainline Superman has already stated the fate 1000 years in the future with the Legion of Superheroes being absolute loyalists of Darkseid with end-of-time Doomsday bringing up similar reveals.

They did bring in Superboy Prime and people are suspecting he's doing a double agent thing with where we left off of a mass war between Legions and him seemingly betraying mainline...so chance of a recon punch opening up a window for the Absolutes to actually win. But as things stand, DC has thus far been setting this up as a doomed timeline.

It will be KINO if the absolute universe still manages to break this fate with their own hands after plans made by main continuity fail and it seems their own fate is doomed. But I don't trust DC enough for that, so I'll just ride the wave for however long this lasts.
>>
>>150312850
>break this fate with their own hands
With Absolute Batman at least, this seems like a core theme. Batman started with nothing and he's going up against all odds, but even with all the hardships he's not giving up and not giving in, because he's Batman AF.
>>
>>150312850
Man I hope so. Feels like it would really do well for the theme that even in the universe created devoid of hope that heroes still stood up and fought. That hope shone through regardless. Feels like it would be a good way to end things. Though I don't trust them to have the restraint to know when to end this universe.
>>
>>150305305
Martian Manhunter is the good kind of weird and crazy, Batman is the wrong kind.
