But that's 20 years of research to find the exact formula and then depending on its complexity another potential 5-15 years finding a way to effectively and cheaply produce it.And sometimes the only method we can find to recreate certain compounds in manufacturing is a complicated process of additive and subtractive steps that creates byproducts we can't separate from the final product that introduce new variables to the drugs effects.

It would have been a perfect way of literally showing Jonas's nightmare scenario prediction as accurate, which this show had a neat tendency of showing the validity to character's positions/beliefs even if they were otherwise painted in a bad way, like the pro-big pharma viewpoint and argument.
