Well Northbros, it's official...

Our favourite cartoon is ending after 5 seasons and 97 episodes.
>>
>>150326578
Good, another shitty adult cartoon with shitty Family Guy-like animation bites the dust.
>>
>>150326578
>97 episodes
Dang, 1 episode less than Tiny Toon Adventures.
>>
>>150326578
I honestly cannot figure out how it made it to 5 seasons.

This is a literal show about nothing.

Good riddance.
>>
>>150326788
97 episodes is a lot of episodes of a mediocre show. Despite being 97 episodes long, I hardly remember anything. No episodes that feel very iconic and something that I want to rewatch.

I don't even really bother watching the show. I just use my computer and listen to the show.
>>
I wanted to fuck the black girl
>>
>>150326578
The only way this show kept running was people like me who only left it on waiting for Bob's Burgers or something to come on after it.
It looks like it made almost enough for rerun syndication.

I watched a few episodes. It felt like Bob's Burgers without the conflict or interesting situations.

they hardly do anything with the setting
its setting is pretty much only used to make it more distinct from other shows but all the characters pretty much talk like and act like media obsessed Californians

I couldn't even get past 1 season. This show was like the worst parts of an already declined Bob's Burgers amplified. Just talk talk talk to constantly fill air.

Hulu is a good contender. They saved Futurama and brought back King of the Hill, so The Great North is in play.

Why would Hulu have any need for it? They're already set with all their big hitters, from Simpsons to Family Guy/Futurama/American Dad to Bob's Burgers, and now King of the Hill.

I wouldn't be surprised if that packed lineup is part of the reason they had no trouble cancelling Solar Opposites. If that show was affected, then Great North was always sure to be a goner.

I still believe this was a decision made out of their control. Hulu might've told the crew in advance, leading them to introduce that one surprise Shlorpion as the "final boss" to set the stage for an ending they had to compromise on.

>>150343901
Well, no, because they dumped HouseBroken pretty quickly. Maybe UBG is really cheap to make.

I enjoyed it, glad it had it's run and didn't wear out its welcome. I'm surprised that tradfriends didn't jump on it since it's essentially an edgy adult comedy built for people who can't handle anything less wholesome than a boob joke. Too many black/gay people?

The suits who picked up the series are probably the same who thought a Bob's Burgers movie would do well in theaters past 2015. But their biggest mistake was thinking Bob's amassed a following BECAUSE of its art style rather than DESPITE its art style.

Will Forte was the only thing that kept me watching, but Wolf never quite reached the level of crazy he's best at portraying.
>>
>>150356095
What are some good Forte roles where he gets to dig into that 'level of crazy'? I'm only familiar with Clone High and Last Man on Earth.
>>
>>150356869
I'm in the same boat of not knowing many of his roles, but he played Stuart Proszakian in "Sit Down, Shut Up." (the animated version specifically, there's also a live action Australian version too but it's not anywhere near as good, and hard to find) It's been a while since I watched Clone High but the characters are "somewhat" similar, though Stuart is a lot crazier. I'll have to check out Last Man on Earth.

Holy fuck it IS true. I could understand them renewing it for season 2 before the first season had even started airing, like maybe they were confident about it being a surprise smash hit or something, but a third season before the second season begins airing? Fox are either insane or the show really is extremely cheap to make to the point where they're not really losing much by renewing it.
Either way Mark Men win.

Also Moonbeam City where he played not quite an antagonist, but a main cast member who antagonised the lead. Think… gosh, I don't think this kind of character is very common anymore. Pam from Martin, Newman from Seinfeld (even though he's not main cast), Myrtle from Lilo and Stitch (also not quite main cast), Red Herring from Pup Named Scooby Doo etc etc etc

lol why they even bothered to get the rights for an obscure aussie show and make it a cartoon? Just change the name and call it an original idea.
>>
>>150376831
>Based on the Australian live-action sitcom of the same name, creator Mitchell Hurwitz came up with the idea for an animated version in 2000.[4] He wrote a script for a pilot episode, but "kept it in a drawer" until he pitched the show to different networks in 2008 when he needed money.[5] Hurwitz said that "it was just a wacky show, and nobody wanted it", but eventually Fox picked it up as a primetime animated series.[1]
>>
>>150334750

this exactly. every once in a while (okay, more common these days) Bob's Burgers did one of those episodes where it's "Awwww... that was a sweet thing, the kids all got along. to do a noble thing. cute. Not really hilarious, but it was a good message and made me smile, at least."

EVERY episode of The Great North was that.

but they didn't "earn" those episodes by establishing characters. they went straight to the sweet aww-shucks good messages. and that's all they ever did.

I wanted it to be funny, it just... wasn't

I'm honestly convinced an AI wrote this show. It was like someone took the dull, borderline irritating anti-humor of a Family Circus comic, added a bunch of random pop culture references and puns, and stretched it to 22 minutes.

I'm fine with pop culture references when they're not being used as a crutch for writing but The Great North did that in spades. It's like they all came out of a coma and are catching up with the world. And most of the time they're referencing shit just to reference it. It doesn't even feel ham fisted. It feels like playing a bad version of Madlibs. Doesn't help that it sounds like all the VAs except for Jenny Slate and Will Forte are there against their will/needing a paycheck.
