Everyone in this show is an IDIOT, I swear to god. It's so incredibly frustration re-watching this sometimes years later and realizing how often the humans and bots do the dumbest shit possible and follow the biggest leaps in logic. It isn't that hard to fix either.
>>150331497you're telling me the children's tv show about giant alien robots secret living and fighting a war on earth has simplistic plots and childlike logic?
I watched this show when I was 12, completely forgot about it, and then rewatched it all while taking mushrooms a couple months ago. it was a surreal but enjoyable experience
>>150331497I know exactly what you mean, recently my friend was watching it for the first time and I followed along and we both lost our shit atMegatron: STARSCREAM IF I DECIDE YOU ARE UNTRUSTWORTHY OR USELESS WHILE READING YOUR MEMORIES I WILL KILL YOUStarscream: oh noes!-cue a clip episode montage showing starscream being untrustworthy and useless for 20 minutes-Megatron: OK ILL LET YOU BACK IN CUZ ITS BETTER TO HAVE YOU WORKING WITH ME THAN AGAINST METhe writer of the episode just flat out forgot what he made the characters say minutes ago.
>>150331856>something has a PG rating so that excuses bad writing practicesNever comment about story telling ever again if this is how you will handle it.
>>150331972Why the fuck did he kill dreadwing over scream I will never know
>>150331972I've been binge watching it on and off out of order because I still love it but good god the rushed production and writing flaws show up, just to name a few off the top of my head based on the most recent episodes I rewatched...>characters have a bad habit of doing suicidal frontal attacks instead of running the fuck away; cliffjumper in the pilot, magnus/wheeljack in the cave with predaking, arcee with airachnid in the forest>characters have a bad habit of never confirming the kill or never going for the kill; soundwave being let free to just reconnect with laserbeak, trypticon bailing on the spark extractor and finishing off the autobots, predaking leaving optimus behind and then saying he failed, soundwave not finishing wheeljack right away and vice versa>just plain dumb shit which overlaps with both; optimus going for the omega lock controls instead of the cons he had dead to rights (many times you will see false dichotomies like this being resolved in the worst possible way), starscream running away when he should fight and fighting when he should run, fucking nobody uses modern missile tech like the military or starscream despite being advanced aliens, trying to use the spark extractor on the nemesis the way they did instead of just bridging directly onboard and bridging out, us military doing dumb shit like using helicopters and tanks against darkmount>the potential of groundbridge/spacebridge portals aren't used to their full potential, they are not thinking with portals as they should>lack of contingency plans and opsec with the autobot base, while decepticons having their cloak breached is never punished as fully as it should, not even a single airstrike>not using the relics in fetch quests immediately on the side of the autobots, smokescreen proves this is a good idea from the getgo even if it risks losing themAnd many more I can't remember right now but thought of at the time I was watching, noting they could have done differently.
>>150332721>vehicons going from actually capable soldiers and being standins for regular crewmembers of the nemesis never being fully utillized as opposed to being mindless mute stormtroopers when they clearly have personality, the only limitation here is assets >ENTER THE GROUNDBRIDGE NOW! >takes 4 million stellar cycles to fucking do something >many cases like this in the show>cartoon physics with the jackhammerHonestly even the headscratchers section on TV Tropes doesn't cover half of the bullshit. >>150332697He didn't even need to fucking kill him, he could have just tackled him or shot him with something else-- oh wait he replaced his gun arm with Liege Maximo's arm, so why the fuck didn't he do that for the left arm instead? Illogical. They just wanted that hero shot with him holding the Dark Star Saber with that hand didn't they? The writers should be aware of some of these decisions based on comments like "nuke happy generals" and small details I occasionally see in the episodes. I just have no idea how much I can write it down to a rushed production schedule or mandates.
>>150332818I think they were cruising on Bayformers' popularity and wanted to have kills because the show is gritty and mature so there has to be kills. Also I guess Dreadwing served his narrative purpose already, but I think they could have done cool stuff with him and the predacons.
>>150332605yes clearly it's aimed at simpler minds than yoursare you starting to understand why that might be, you colossal pedophile
>>150333015>because the show is gritty and mature so there has to be killsAt some point the way they show the kills in later episodes end up being more nonchalant cannon fodder, if anything the show loses the idea of being gritty and mature pretty fast. I think that the closest they got to that was Predatory and Sick Mind (my picks for the best episodes if I had to go off memory). They never quite recaptured some of the atmospheric moments in the early episodes, there's just too much noise and action going on to allow for proper atmosphere. It is similar to Bayformers in that respect, but even the early films had their moments for you to take it in.
>>150333358Take your anti-psychotic pharmaceuticals, now.
>>150332818I think the funniest part of Dreadwing's death is that he got shot with his own gun. Y'know, the gun that was introduced to us in a scene where it bounces off uselessly from the Autobots rushing in to save Wheeljack form him and has been similarly mediocre various times before. It's like Dreadwing's gun is only actually useful when it's purpose is to kill Dreadwing, then it becomes the single most powerful weapon in the show.
>>150332697>starscream i have crack addiction i am die
>>150333809>then it becomes the single most powerful weapon in the show.To be fair, it looks like it should be pretty strong since it looks like it has some kind of charge mechanism similar to other BFG's in the show. Megatron's fusion cannon for instance, can either OHK, 3 hit kill, or mildly inconvenience someone depending on the needs of the current scene. With the episode "Armada" showing Megatron terminating the Starscream clones in one shot, I can only leave it to all of them running low on energon (assuming they didn't refuel in the energon storage vault along the way) or just Starscream being that big of a glass cannon. Oh yeah, he also just stands there and stares at a charging Bulkhead instead of just shooting him or running away, not unlike Silas when he gets crushed by Nemesis Prime because he didn't run away. Also, even the smaller guns like Cliffjumper's cool triple-barreled iron blasters with some fancy targeting systems can either blow up a vehicon in one hit or slow down Shockwave just a little, though to be fair Shockwave has got some beefy armor by the looks of it or some big screens to absorb that, who knows. I do like the idea of overshields like in the WFC/FOC games. Some kind of natural reactive armor or magnetic field perhaps.
>>150331972>>150333358Transformers armada had literal ass Pokémon episodes and still has deeper writing than Prime
>>150334051Nah armada has a shakey first couple episodes but when it picks up it REALLY picks up
>>150334051Animated on the other hand is just more tightly written Prime doesn't get the chance to come to the level of Armada and Animated where it should have
Is it just me or do people call Megatron a brilliant strategist in this show while he sits around and does fuck all for half of it while Starscream comes up with all the plans? Game WFC would wipe the floor with this Megatron, who has clearly lost his touch since his space voyage.
>>150331972I haven't watched Prime (tried but lost interest as soon as I realized it was setting up some zombie bullshit) but I'm pretty sure Megatron threatening to kill Starscream for doing Starscream things and then never following through has been the defining feature of their dynamic ever since the G1 cartoon. That's just consistent characterization.
>>150336129You dont know how to wage warFirst rule of war is nothing ever happensMegatron knew this and then unicron happenedUnicron is what ?EarthWhat is EarthNothing compared to cybertronNothing happenend
>>150336260I think you should take a break, I fear that too much contact with the dark energon has allowed its properties to adversely affect you.
>>150334051no it doesn't>>150333714>children have adult minds and shows aimed at them should reflect thattake your bromine, pedo
>>150331497I only liked this show because I like watching big alien robot cars fight each other...and the porn is good
>>150331497>It's so incredibly frustration re-watching this sometimes years later and realizing how often the humans and bots do the dumbest shit possible and follow the biggest leaps in logic.I think that's because most of the time, there's really not much of importance happening in the show. Rendering much of it utterly forgettable, it's not like Animated which always had a lot of build-up in its season arcs with a climactic finish, Prime always feels like its bouncing back and forth between a bunch of pointless bullshit. The entire dark energon plot is one, the insecticons ended abruptly with them on the moon getting sucked off, and the "rogue human taking over transfomer" gets dragged out into an actual plot line that goes nowhere and ends with the guy dying rather than just being a funny joke for a few episodes in Animated. The voice acting is also kinda fucked at points, Peter Cullen in Prime sounds WAY bored during his once-per-episode monologue. I know Steve Blum can really bring the devious with Eliphas the Inheritor in Dawn of War 2, unfortunately starscream is kind of pathetic so it doesn't really work out.The finale of Prime is just Team Prime banging away at the Decepticons until they're all dead (and then BB gets his voice back). The finale of Animated is a brutal showdown between Megatron and Optimus Prime (complete with Megatron actually saying Prime's name) against a backdrop of nukes going off and Prowl sacrificing himself. There's really no comparison to me between Prime and Animated.
>>150338394i wish Animated got that final season instead of getting axed for Prime, there was so much cool stuff planned and now all we have are unused scripts, concept art, and left over docs of episode pitches. Biggest tragedy is the lead artist and writer died
>>150338394I confess I got filtered by Animated's art style about five minutes into the first episode. Everyone's chin is >40% of the total height of their head. I felt similarly about Prime's spiky, noseless bots, but tolerated them long enough to get filtered by the writing instead.Makes me wonder how much of any given TF story's popularity is down to the way it looks. I feel like see a disproportionate amount of people thirsting over Prime's versions of the characters. But that (and it's general popularity in the visible TF fanbase) could also be partly because of when it was released. People who would've watched Prime as kids or young teens are in their 20s now, so they're probably the bulk of fans/fan-artists who are active and popular on social media.
>>150340488artstyle definitely has a lot to do with a Transformers show's popularity especially for the characters, even i got filtered by Animated because of the way it looked when i first saw it. Prime's designs look cool as hell but the writing wasn't interesting but i can see why so many people glaze it just from how the bots look and there's a lot of nostalgia around it
We will never have a good TF series because nobody takes a silly concept like robots fighting wars in space seriously.I love G1, Prime, all of it. But the task of trying to make a tight plot seems to be abandoned.
>>150331856NGL, Armada was better written than this.
>>150337997It kinda does and no I’m not glazing Starscream either. The writing Optimus Prime gets is good too especially his internal conflict and lust for battle
>>150340488After I got over Animated's art style, I had to get over the writing. I don't mind it going for a goofier tone, but some missed opportunities and changes annoy me to no end. There seems to be an underlying resurgence of the Decepticon but we don't really see many Decepticons. And they seemed to be planning something with Sentinel or showing the dark underbelly of Cybertron under Autobot rule, but never really develops. The changes I hate are the human villains. I hate how they don't get any Dinobot to talk except Grimlock. I wonder where are the other Combaticons. And Weird Al is fun but his gimmick is kind of weak in TFA. What the show gives me is bad to alright, but what it teases me with I wish it fulfilled.
>>150341063Animated was trying to be more like a superhero show with villain of the week or generic "some random problem happens" solving episodes. I didn't mind the lighter tone but the show shouldn't have waited so long to introduce more stuff like Cybertron and the Autobot vs Decepticon war.
>Ratchet. WHAT are you doing?>getting off.>and breaking protocol. That was a Decepticon minor. Cunny class, not hag class.>oh and let me guess, i'm just the pedo.>Autobots do not sex the cunny unless all other options are exhausted>it's what separates us from the Decepticons.
>>150340488Hasbro still hasn't made a Transformers continuity with an ideal art style imo. They've all had flaws
>>150341252wew lad
>>150340488>about Prime's spiky, noseless botsThere's some guy on Instagram or Pixiv that drew high quality concept art of the Prime bots like Megatron with the G1 style noses and they look really natural, so it would be an easy fix imo
>>150338394Cullen's performance was great, they just didn't give him as much screentime as they probably should relative to Megatron
>>150341894Cyberverse designs did actually look like toys again for once.
Yeah Prime is a real slog to watch compared to the TF cartoons before it.
>>150338394>The finale of Animated is a brutal showdown between Megatron and Optimus PrimeYou are exaggerating horribly how cool the TFA finale was. The Megatron and Optimus fight is mostly off-screened with the little we get to see being horribly animated slide-show, the climax of the action is "the omega supremes that were gonna blow up the city are now.... gonna blow up the city but as bombs!!" and everything about Bulkhead and Bee's confrontation with Shockwave sucks dick.It was not an epic and worthy finale, it was a rushed "welp we heard were canceled" mess. It wasn't much better than the Prime finale.
>Now /co/ntrarians hate Prime
>>150343472>You are exaggerating horribly how cool the TFA finale was.I suppose, but I still prefer it over Prime's ending, because at least we got to see the endpoint of a few character arcs. Optimus finally manning up and using the Magnus hammer, Prowl actually sacrificing himself and Starscream FINALLY dying. I agree that everything else was kind of hollow, Sari got jack and shit to do, Omega Supreme got taken out after one hit, and Lugnut got thrashed in seconds. But I will forever maintain that it was better than Prime's finale.
>>150340488I just never like the American attempts at reinventing the wheel with mecha design. The handsome faces and dynamic proportions are part of the appeal. Nixing the noses to make them superficially more alien Superficially, it kinda reminds me of a similar discussion of Dekaranger's Doggie Kruger vs the Power Rangers SPD's adaptation. The Japanese one is just a big anime dog man, and the American one tries to make him more alien and ends up making him look ugly.
They had an immobilizer ray whien the Cons took their humans hostage, why didn't they judt freeze them?
>>150344765I get the idea of trying to make them more alien but then it all kinda of gets contradicted when they have life mirroring life on Earth or how they based some of it on early earth life or something in some loreIn any case, TFP Megatron with a nose looks like peak design and makes me wish he had one in the show, it immediately makes the face have so much more character
>>150345083Pulling a fast one in Prime is not allowed, every move must be telegraphed like some Japanese honor code
>>150331497Filtered
>>150343517God forbid people be honest about reviewing something after they grow
>>150347176Noticing things is not "filtered"
>>150343426They tried that with the Netflix show too
>>150334051Armada and Prime share the same problem of rushing good ideas.
prepare to join your scout in the archives
>>150341894Fair. My favorite style so far is what we got in Skybound's Transformers series. I wouldn't copy-paste it into every other TF comic and cartoon, so I'm not going to say it's "the ideal art style for Transformers" overall, but I think it's very well suited to the story it's trying to tell.>>150344765>I just never like the American attempts at reinventing the wheel with mecha design. This is exactly what I was thinking but I didn't want to admit to being a weeb. Thank you for taking one for the team.
Hey Transformers faggots.... how would you compare the series to Energon? cause that's the only one I unfortunately had available at the time and I still didn't see the ending to it. I did not watch Beast Wars, unfortunately for me.
>>150336184It is, but Prime having a more serious tone compared to G1’s silliness makes it weirder.
>>150354831>This is exactly what I was thinking but I didn't want to admit to being a weebNo worries lol, though I will say it's not just that style I like, I also really have been loving skybound's grittier art, and I liked Geoff Senior and G2's art from Marvel. And I like Beast Wars, which is pretty thoroughly a western interpretation of a sort of Guver aesthetic from the toys. And some other comic art as well. It's just I'm not as big a fan of a lot of modern animation designs for TFs. There's a lot of aspects pushed like heavy emphasis on shape language and stylized designs that I think takes away from the coolness of the classic designs
>>150340488>a disproportionate amount of people thirsting over Prime's versions of the characters.I'll be honestThe single Transformers character to catch my thirst is Prime PredakingGod he's hot
>>150338394I liked Ironside as Ultra Magnus
Finished Season 1 two months ago and really don't feel like going back. Unicron as the threat felt WAY too early, God I wish there were more Autobots, Silent Soundwave is ok but I want more from him than just looming menacingly, and holy shit Arcee is terrible. Half her missions end with her having a trauma episode or actually hindering the mission.
