Shit like these cartoons is why Nintendo went rabid in protecting their IPs.

Nintendo were correct and stopped it early, Sega didn’t and now you just need to look at any Sonic thread here

Nintendo didn't even knew that the Mario Show and Captain N had completed one season until DIC called them to tell how well it was going in ratings, they just went "Meh! You paid for the IP use, so do whatever, cancel or continue if you want to" and DiC went to produce the Mario 3 and Mario World cartoons
They genuinely couldn't give less of a fuck about the show existing, they had bigger issues like the 90s movie being a PR nightmare and the Ron Jeremy porn parody that they apparently wiped out of the face of the earth. They even abandoned the Japanese OVA for people to watch free on YouTube with no copyright strikes yet, and they just gave a little more of a crap over that project because they banked the production of that into also making some Japanese only interactive VHS/Toy Telephone game that flopped
