Honorable dipshit awards go to people who hold shotgun mics (made to record super focused sounds at a distance) or idiots who hold mics with built in stand mounts like the Shure SM7b (a favorite of podcasters), or big ol desktop microphones like the Blue Yeti (a favorite of n00bs who think a built in preamp mounted directly on the mic is better than buying a mic AND an audio interface). These mics are all built for specific applications and are not made to be held. If you want to hold the mic to make yourself look more like some sort of official TV interviewer or something, use a handheld dynamic mic. They're cheap and they sound good. I get that he's recording this on his phone, but you can find handheld bluetooth mics that can connect to whatever device you want. Otherwise, if you really prefer the lapel mic, get a 2nd one so you can mic up both people by having it hidden in your clothing and then you can just have a conversation like normal.
