Another Masters of the Universe thread you say? Will this help Skeletor defeat He-Man and rule over Eternia?
it's still funny how space lesbians got more traction than zoomer he-man. it's almost like the only people who still like he-man only like one version of he-man.
>>150342691Nah, that's because She-Ra tapped into the MLP, lesbian, and tranny fandoms. Also that kids watching it weren't even alive when the previous He-Man cartoon came out.
>>150342721>MLP, lesbian, and tranny fandomsyou mean the modern audience for animated shows, they consume dumbed down high concept sci fi and shipping aka She-Ra 2018. meanwhile cgi he-man wanted to be an 80's toy commercial in the modern day.
>>150342759>meanwhile cgi he-man wanted to be an 80's toy commercial in the modern dayI don't know how much I agree or disagree with this statement. On the one hand He-Man is primarily a toy brand, and so every cartoon is designed to drive toy sales. That said 2021 feels very much like they were trying to tell an actual story. Either way, it's very good.

What hopes do we have (if any) for the movie prequel animated series? Also given their work on both Highlander and Flash Gordon, I'm surprised Queen never did any work for MOTU, it feels like they'd have been a perfect fit for the live-action movie. Maybe Cannon couldn't shell out the money.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEJ8lpCQbyw

>>150342656So is Skeletor's head actually connect to his body or is it just floating there?
>>150342656Trailer for movie before Tron Ares?
>>150342967Original mini comic Skeletor has a regular neck, Filmation cartoon's head floats, so does 200X (picrel), CGI has a neck.
>>150342967Also while this scene establishes Skeletor has a neck. I also think it implies the he's well hung.
>>150342691Did it? CG He-man at least got more than like four pieces of merch.
>>150342823HERE WE ARE! BORN TO BE KINGS!WE'RE THE MASTERS THE UNIVERSE!
>>150343115Evelyn/Evil-Lyn looked like a cute teenager.Wasn't she established as old enough to adopt Teela in the first episode though?
>>150343163>Wasn't she established as old enough to adopt TeelaTeela was her apprentice.
>>150343199Right, right.Child apprentices were a big part of the CGI reboot's worldbuilding. Duncan was apprenticed to Man-At-Arms Kronis and he and Teela had to realize that their masters were evil people they should rebel against.Somehow Evil-Lyn still looked like she was young enough to attend Monster High, though.
"The Price of Deceit" might have been the best episode of the 2002 toon. They flashed back to Evil-Lyn's Meet Cute with Keldor 17+ years ago.
Mattel should have given this show more life support. It falling through makes it look like MOTU is a brand with an aging audience that has no future.
It's all but explicitly stated that they were a couple for some time leading up to the day he was mortally wounded in the fight with Randor in the pilot. She took him to Hordak to save his life with a spell. The implication seemed to be that he hasn't been into her since he died, and getting fed up was the cause of her disloyalty.
>>150342691>MOTU thread>the one obsessive fan of nu-ra jumps in to defend his shitty forgotten showlike clockwork
>>150343322>Somehow Evil-Lyn still looked like she was young enough to attend Monster High, though.Maybe she used magic to make a really, REALLY, good collagen boosting cream?
>>150343424>>150343466Evil-Lyn being in love with Skeletor was a plot point in the live-action movie as well. She loves Skeletor but ends up bailing on him, when she realises he will never love her in return.
>>150343443>It falling through makes it look like MOTU is a brand with an aging audience that has no future.I hope the movie/prequel cartoon change that.Though it seems like even profitable superhero and space fantasy movies don't sell action figures to kids anymore. They support Lego themes, but I don't want MotU to be licensed to Mego when they already had a brick-building line with far superior minifigures.
Who deserves to be in MotU fiction alongside/instead of the usual suspects?Blast-Attak got a mute cameo in Revelation.Goat Man and Pig Boy showed up and the former even got a VA. They're coming back in the 2026 movie.Personally, I need Modulok and Multi-Bot back for the first time since the 1985 Christmas Special.
>>150343815Fucking Twistoid Dude has basically been in NOTHINGEven his heroic counterpart got a single panel in Marvel comics and an obscure Italian comic story
>>150343815I hope Mosquitor gets more presence. But reworked into something more terrifying, a real vampiric entity. I think each He-Man series or entry should have the evil warriors be a genuine threat, but be something that the heroes face in combat, but the Horde should be not only more powerful, but truly nightmarish. Something that makes the heroes afraid.I'd also be okay if they went the Mo'squita'ra route, given that only female Mosquitoes suck blood. In fact if they went full Elizabeth Bathory with her, that'd be cool.
>>150344183Mosquita'ra should have as big a torso as Mosquitor's vintage toy, for the sake of the action feature. They could do the same "buff but female" philosophy as DreamWorks Scorpia.
>>150344470I was thinking they should go the opposite route and make the character really thin. I think rather than having a big chest window they could either have tanks on the back that fill as you press the pump button or maybe tubes the fluid flows through.
THE PIZZA, HE-MANEAT IT
What if they made She-Ra sexy again, specifically to piss off all the feminists who latched on to the character after the 2018 series?
>>150342691>Nu-ra got more traction
>>150342759Maybe if your favorite show bothered to make good merch, you'd ha e gotten that movie you dream about. For the record, She-ra sells toy, Nu-ra couldnt sell beans at a farting contest.
>>150344586They made her sexy again because she axtually sells. Let us also not forget that the creators had to fight to give She-ra some muscle on her toy and not make her a carbon copy of Barbie.
She-Ra's 1985 cartoon design was great. It's not worth engaging with an incel who wants her to look like a sex doll for the explicit purpose of turning off "feminists" (which would include all women and the 5-year-old girls she should be appealing to).
>>150344745>She-Ra's 1985 cartoon design was great. That IS the sexy design.
>>150344797Yeah, let's just bring that back.
2018 She-Ra was actually great and most of the criticism is some incel shit about her not looking girly enough or lesbians=bad or something.
>>150344897It's not THAT great.Yes, there are character arca where the 1985 version of a character was one-dimensional, but the Princess Alliance spent a lot of time acting like they were in Horse Show or something instead of the compelling action cartoon about child soldiers and stuff the Horde lived in.And Adora agreeing to be a universe-destroying villain's girlfriend because she did it out of erotic jealousy was a horrible thing to put in a kid's show. Like shipping He-Man with Exdeath to get gay representation.
>>150343905Poor Twistoid.
>>150343491He's not really defending anything, just curses the thread with Nu-Ra's presence, which is equally bad but ultimately inescapable.
>>150342691>it's almost like the only people who still like he-man only like one version of he-manNot really, I've yet to meet someone who liked the original show and disliked Mike Young's spin-off. I'll take more of the same, more of the same in a different setting (like The New Adventures of He-Man), or a conclusion to Mike Young's He-Man. The rest I don't care about.
In the MotUniverse (not SPOP with its clones), what do you think Hordak's species normally looks like? She-Ra and the short-lived Marvel comic treated him as part metal, while in the minicomics he seemed to be undead with only his head flesh rotting away.
>>150343815Stinkor, Stonedar, Multi-Bot, Extendar, Blast Attak, Ninjor, Energy Zoids, giants, Saurod, Snake Face, Mosquitor...
There's a new comic coming out in 2 weeks.Same creative team that did the crossovers with Thundercats, Injustice and Ninja Turtles, but this time it's a pure MotU story.
sex with skeletor
I didn't watch the nu He-Man show Kevin Smith made. Did they really write him off after the first episode and make Teela the MC?
>>150350308He died in episode 1, but was resurrected by episode 5....but the final conflict was also Evil-lyn vs Teela for the fate of the universe while He-Man and Skeletor just had a skirmish to the side, with the fantastic line of He-Man telling Skeletor "It's not about us!"
>>150350360And either that first 5-episode drop or that boneheaded decision in 10 is probably when Revolution had weak ratings despite being pretty good.
>>150350360So girlboss slop?

Can He-Man and She-Ra crossover again or is there still rights bullshit going on?
>>150351449Last they told us they still couldn't, not in a cartoon anyway. She's gonna be in that new MotU beat'm up game though
>>150343443That's what MOTU is. It was in 2002 too. That's what G.I. Joe is, though it's in much better shape than MOTU. Transformers is in a class of its own and honestly always has been. >>150350091I'm looking forward to it. The comics have a far stronger track record than the shows.
>>150348677>She-Ra and the short-lived Marvel comic treated him as part metalHuh, I never really thought that. He always reminded me of a fish for some reason. MotU is so full of barely explained demon, alien, and cyborg things that one can only wonder what's a species and what's just a weird-looking dude. I suppose Imp is the closest character to Hordak? He generally shares the same features (Hordak has bat ears, nose, and fangs and makes pig-like sounds, Imp has bat wings, fangs, and ears and a pig snout), so if we assume they're the same species, they're like demon bat pig humanoids, with no specific order of what features are more or less pronounced.>>150350091Neat. I watched all of He-Man and She-Ra (outside of recent years) but never really dabbled in any of the comics. Downloading the Dark Horse minicomic collection right now, seems like a nice place to start from.
>>150350308Kind of. The point of the story is that Teela learns about her mother and has to understand her role as Sorceress Jr. to keep the world from collapsing. Adam is a prominent character throughout. An odd choice for the first season of a revival but a sensible one for MOTU in general -- the real story problems are elsewhere; He-Man is the most boring part of MOTU anyway. I didn't love Revelation, but its biggest issue is that it tries to do too much in too short a time. Revolution is also a little overstuffed but is much better and I wish it had gotten a sequel.
>>150350270I asked this in the last thread. Are there chicks that genuinely thirst for Skeletor? She-Ra came about because the original He-Man figures had a really strong female demographic. You think Skeletor led to any chicks first awakenings?>>150350829You're wrong. Skeletor with the glowing red pupils looks rad.
>>150351291>kids didn't give a damn about cgi-manKids don't give a shit about anything that isn't brainrot.
When I first saw the Beast Man transformation I thought "oh yeah, they're doing the usual tear the skin off to reveal the beast underneath werewolf thing" but having R'Qazz turn into stone and Beast Man smashing his way out of the chest is so much cooler, and now in my top 3 favourite monster transformations. It's like mixing the Werewolf change from Van Helsing with the statue coming to life moments from Gargoyles.
>>150353767The minicomic collection is a great place to start. Every character gets showcased at least briefly and many were done by artists like Alfredo Alcala and Bruce Timm. One comic will build on the previous one and then you suddenly jump to a different continuity without notice, but I suppose that's part of the fun.
>>150354436>Are there chicks that genuinely thirst for Skeletor?I think it'd be more apparent if that was the case. Even fujos who ship rivals like there's no tomorrow don't really do anything with Adam and Skeletor. He is just too goofy for sex appeal.
>>150355108So e rivals just don't get shipped. Chris Evans created a ton of Captain America fujoz but they don't ship him with the Red Skull.

I keep seeing reference to He-Man as a "gay icon" yet there is more smut for Tranny-Ra than there is of He-Man and Skeletor, so I really don't think there is any foundational homogay subtext within MOTU itself, just a few gay dudes trying to seem scholarly in their attraction to He-Man.
>>150355641>Ram Ma'am is the worst name ever.I think it's fine. It's as close to Ram Man as you can get.
Why does it seem like the only two things MOTU related on Youtube are AI slop trailer "concepts", and fucking Pixel Dan?
>>150357217Because few people give a shit about MOTU. Even Pixel Dan stopped reviewing all the new figures.
>>150342721It was legitimately better-written than either of Netflix's He-Man shows, and I say that as someone that was rooting for the He-Man shows. Smith's show shat the bed almost from the start, to the point where the genuinely-good final episodes just weren't enough to dig it out. And the CGI show had the opposite problem, starting strong then getting dumber and dumber near the end, to the point where Ram Ma'am was going "Whaaaa? Skeletor betrayed me? Skeletor?" and Adam was suffering from roid rage or something. Just squandered potential. In fairness, She-Ra had more episodes promised from day one. "You're going to have 52 episodes, exactly, no less" is a dream gig. Knowing how many eps you've got AND have a few dozen of them lets to flesh out a cast and work out the major beats you want to tell before you start. It's a damn shame that it didn't become an industry standard (fuck you Team Voltron, I blame you), and it's a damn shame that Mattel cheaped out and didn't promise something comparable when making their incredibly rushed shows (add the all CGI and Smith episodes together and you STILL have less episodes than Dreamworks gave to She-Ra).
>>150356565You don't get to decide who is and who isn't a gay icon, anon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FR7wOGyAzpw
>>150357632Making a joke about the original He-Man being kinda faggy looking doesn't make him a gay icon though. There are more gays now than any point in history, if him being that much of an icon was real, then He-Man's popularity should be growing with time.
>>150342656Sad it never got it third season, Wrecking Ram was a cute megasuki that Adam needed to fuck into submission along with his dad fucking Teela
>>150344586>Fans of the 2018 series would be so angry at sexy art of She-RaThat's definitely true. I sure hope you don't spend a lot of money commissioning high quality sexy art of the characters. That would piss us off so much.
>>150357811I'm okay with sexy fan art and rule 34 of Nu-Ra. Anything to drown out the copious fat, tranny She-Ra art where she wears a binder or has top scars and is covered from head to toe in body hair.
>>150357609>the CGI show had the opposite problem, starting strong then getting dumber and dumberI felt the same way. The entire Krass plot was borderline insulting and I imagine would have been frustrating to watch even as a child -- maybe more so since an adult can spot the artifice whereas a child would (ideally) be more invested.I've never watched She-Ra and probably never will, but I agree that having more episodes and a set number is advantageous.
>>150357678>Making a joke about the original He-Man being kinda faggy looking doesn't make him a gay icon though.Making a joke about it doesn't, no.A decades-long string of jokes, snide comments, and "you know what I mean"s on the other hand, definitely does add up.>There's more smut for new showWell sure. But that's from increased access to digital tools, the internet, and media. There's less gay He-Man art, but when the internet was young there was enough of it to help form a perception and give credence to the idea that there was a the gay corner of the fandom was considerably larger than for most cartoons.Anyway, it's just too fun NOT to make it gay.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PgTjhx1VLw

I only really enjoy He-Man when it's out of context.
>>150342691Eh? The Show was half the amount of episodes but had longer legs in merc and traction. I feel like I just got baited.
>>150353767Imp claimed in one episode he is the little brother to Hordak and Horde Prime called Imp his sibling once in another so their is some family thing going on assuming the writers didn't make a goof. He also stated once his forum we see isn't really how he looks, hard to say if that was true due to the degrees he can shapeshift or if he was just bluffing from being teased about how he looks.
Has any action cartoon had a faster drop in quality than He-Man 2002? The three-part premiere was great: take the original and improve it with an origin story, much better animation, characters actually hitting enemies with their weapons, etc. Then the very next episode was "The Courage of Adam", a snoozefest where Adam resents people thinking he's not brave after he's hidden to change into He-Man ONE TIME. So he tries to escape from abduction by Skeletor without his superpowers, changes his mind a couple minutes before the episode's over, and Man-At-Arms scolds him for endangering his comrades by not doing the tactically optimal thing 24/7.
>>150342823>movie prequel animated seriesI didn't even know this was going to be a thing. The CG Netflix show showed good He-Man can still be made so I'll be cautiously oppotmistic. Though admittedly, a prequel seems a bit weird.
>>150350091That's cool. Is it connected to any of the previous He-Man comics?
>>150360370>Though admittedly, a prequel seems a bit weird. The only setup I can think of for a prequel before Adam becomes He-Man is ER Burroughs's Mars with a heroine from Earth (Marlena) instead of a hero and a spaceship instead of astral projection.
>>150355520I liked how the little squares on the side would also be a little tease for the coming episode. These were a great call.
>>150360401Yeah I guess that could work. Marlenea being from Earth was always something open to exploring. Maybe throw in some of the Randor and Keldor stuff too and you've got the bones of something workable.
>>150360410>Maybe throw in some of the Randor and Keldor stuff too and you've got the bones of something workable.Yeah, I don't know exactly when the film script has "Keldor is revealed as a bad guy", but if possible I'd have Randor take the crashed Marlena home, then very quickly King Miro disappears fighting the Enchantress, Keldor takes the throne and is so openly a bad guy that Randor and Marlena are motivated to run off on Sword and Planet adventures doing what they have to do to overthrow him.

>>150342691It was the better show with better characters and more episodes to tell a story in. And better character designs too. I don't adore all its designs or hate all the MOTU designs, but are you really surprised THIS didn't catch on?
>>150360349What are you even complaining about?
>>150363611It could very well have caught on in Fall 2010. Mattel is just breathtakingly incompetent with timing.
>>150355640Love this image. It's been my monitor wallpaper since it came out
>>150363674Those designs were never going to catch on, and that was always too few episodes for what they were trying to do. They want He-Man to go back to being a billion-dollar franchise but they don't put in the work... even though they spend a shitload of money! They just spend it in a stupid way. "We're making two different TV shows aimed at different demographics, and a live action movie! Neither show will have enough episodes, and the movie will have Jared Leto as Skeletor."Bro.Bro....Just do what the lesbians did and make a decent show with enough episodes to flesh out a large cast and tell a decent story. Fucking hell man.
Giffen wrote the best MotU comics.
>>150363989As a huge Giffen fan that is the most backhanded compliment I've seen him ever receive.
>>150350417Season 2 and 3 focus to he-man
>>150350360I get the hate, but honestly that seemed incredibly on-point. The whole fucking universe was on the line and Skeletor went "Hm, now's a good chance to kill He-Man!"Just the most petty narrow-minded "gotta be true to myself, and I'm an asshole at heart" shit, with He-Man going "are you fucking kidding me? The universe is going down the drain and you think it's a backdrop for our glorious rematch or some shit?"
>>150363977But it WOULD have gotten more episodes due to high enough ratings, in a kid's media market that no longer existed by 2021.You could have said the same thing about Ninjago if they'd never paid for more episodes beyond the initial plan for the Green Ninja mini season + 2 main.
>>150364118>But it WOULD have gotten more episodes due to high enough ratings,I'm pretty skeptical, because they went with 13 episodes total for the first two "seasons". That's half as many eps as just the first season of Beast Wars or 2012 TMNT, . CGI costs more in some aspects, but you do get the benefit of being able to re-use shit and get more eps. Even assuming they would've put out all 26 episodes as a single season in 2021, the fact that they stretched it out to cover a couple years instead of dumping all at once (Netflix dropped more eps in less time) just really makes it look like Mattel was trying to avoid spending the money needed to get the ball rolling. There were people there going "this'll be enough, right?" and stopping short of giving the support it needed to have any traction. And too many of the main character designs were ass, I'm sorry.
>>150364401>And too many of the main character designs were ass, I'm sorry.Don't be sorry, I liked the show and I agree with you.
>>150363989I don't remember which ones he wrote, but I liked a lot of the 2012-2016 (or thereabouts) stuff. I'd say it's MOTU's best material in general.
>>150350417No. And Smith was right in saying that it could be interesting to see what happened in a world without He-Man. But a 10-episode show was a stupid place to do it.Even then though, he got fucked hard by Netflix. The entire 10 episodes were meant to be dropped in one go, that's how it was written. Breaking up the season into 2 parts meant that instead of He-Man being benched for a couple episodes in the season, he was benched for the majority of the first part to drop.I don't think the season was ever going to be a huge hit with old fans, but dropping it all at once definitely would have resulted in a less stupid timeline. The number of posts I saw claiming he "rewrote the rest to placate fans" gave me psychic damage.
Besides He-Man, Skeletor and Evil-Lyn, how many of the old A-list do you think Masters of the Universe fiction wod really need to not flop?CGI got pretty close to replacing Teela with a Sorceress who can leave her house, which I think was a good first step.Is there any reason not to have Skeletor (leader), Evil-Lyn (chick), Beast Man (feral, minion control) but Clawful as the water master, Modulok as the techie, Blast-Attak as durable muscle and Ninjor as the spy/sneaker?
>>150363925I wish I could find better resolution versions. I had to take this from a screenshot and upscale it. Why the hell is there no decent wiki for MOTU?
So is Revelations/Revolution getting a season 3?
>>150371258Probably not. They've got whatever the prequel show is and the inevitably awful Jared Leto disaster on the horizon. I'd rather have a third season though, especially after how good Revolution was.
>>150371331>the inevitably awful Jared Leto disaster on the horizon.I'm hoping the film is good in spite of Leto, or the Knight is able to keep Leto in check. Leto actually can be a good actor, but lately his ego seems to bleed through more than his skill, and also he keeps getting tied to shit like Morbius.
>>150371258Man I fucking wish. Revelations was rooooough as fuck with a few promising parts, Revolution was solid with moments of kino, I can only imagine that a third season would've been fantastic. But you've gotta hit the ground running.>>150370051The CGI show had about the right mix of characters and a few really good ideas, they just fumbled the ball. Looking back I think the big mistakes were (1) Making it CGI, (2) trying to do too much with too few eps, (3) having Keldor's identity be unimportant, (4) having Teela be an unproblematic no-depth "good girl" despite being a thief, (5) the rift between Adam and Randor being healed VERY quickly, and (6) exiling Krass from the main cast almost immediately (a move so stupid it would be like having Toph or Raven just "smell you later" out of the picture for much of their shows - she was a fun source of inter-team conflict, the show needed that).I hope if there's ever another show they learn from Revolution and do something with that take on Keldor. Started out as Randor's cool older brother, loved his bro enough that he self-exiled rather than cause problems for the family (with the problems specifically being that his mom's from a hated ethnic group), went off to have Adventures only to walk right into Hordak's bullshit, then got tortured, twisted, and rebuilt into a Complete Monster. You could do something with that. The sneering funny evil dude that's out of his mind, and when people start going "wait... you're Keldor? What happened to you?" it'd actually mean something.
>>150371455The issue is that a character like Skeletor will almost certainly bring out his worst impulses. He's awful most of the time already. He's even the shittiest part of Blade Runner. The announcement of his casting singlehandedly killed my interest in this movie. I'm not exaggerating.
>>150371613Skeletor = Threat to the entire kingdom, an evil-laughing monster.Teen Keldor = Just the coolest older brother a kid could ask for, supportive, willing to walk away from any claim to the throne he theoretically had, and he built up his awkward little-bro Randor's confidence, getting him to do "bad-but-not-REALLY-bad" things like sneaking into their dad's room to rummage through cool grown-up stuff. That's just neat. I wish more people had watched Revolution.
I hate fucks who dislike something just because it plays with style and doesn't look like shitty wannabe anime. It is the best modern Heman show and most aligned with the original in target audience and spirit.
>>150372138Yeah and it still wasn't very good and didn't do well. Happens.
>>150372138Both flopped and the CGI show's final eps were painfully dumb, your meme is bad. Most "this thing is awesome, the other thing is awful" memes end up looking retarded when the dust clears.
