So tropes that should be subverted?
>>150343258>talking like their default setting is being bad/demoralizingIf making them not shit is subversion then yeah: tropes that can be subverted into being good.
>>150343169Example, anon, example!
>The villain genuinely cares for their allies/friends, and maybe even rewards them>Protagonist isn't just a goody two-shoes, and gets genuinely mad or sad at things>The dynamic of energetic/cheerful male and serious/moody/smart female>>fantasy setting that isn't medieval>>150342957>The statues are coloredWild.
these are all just wholesome tropes
>>150343624They are also very rare >Male cat paired with female dogApart one example from School of life this is nonexistent

>>150342870Not sure if it counts as a trope, but I like world conquering villains who legitimately believe that everything would be better if they controlled the world, and have the leadership skills to actually back up that claim. I think Dr. Doom is like that, because apparently his country that he rules is actually a good place to live and his subjects love him.
>>150344930Can't think of good examples even though I'm pretty sure I've seen this not long ago but isn't that like a large chunk of villain endgames involving artifact quests? >>150345270that is an interesting concept, the problem is one can very quickly point out my hypocritical moments that make no sense in larger context the. You can't have "supervillain" and "reasonable" at the same time.

Charlotte would be so much hotter if she acted more like Darla Dimple.
>>150346388>You can't have "supervillain" and "reasonable" at the same timeSure you can. Just because bad writers have to make every villain a retard so the heroes have a chance to win doesn't mean anything.
>>150346307https://youtu.be/cwJtzABVCJg?si=8cA0kddUrXQ5h_rh
>>150346529no, because in order for the heroes to fight someone, the villain has to threaten innocent people. And if he threatens innocent people, then he can't be a super good leader that wants the best for people. Thus, hypocrite. If he doesn't threaten innocent people, if the heroes don't fight him, there is no story for him in a superhero comic.
>>150346708But the ends justify the means and innocence is no excuse.
>>150346708I think op was more thinking of the term "lawful evil"
>>150346768>But the ends justify the means and innocence is no excuse.so he would use that excuse for his country too, but then the people wouldn't see him as a good leader because he would constantly get rid of any small nuisances for the greater good.>>150346883>I think op was more thinking of the term "lawful evil"lawful evil are evil people that are delusional in thinking they are doing good for the government."because apparently his country that he rules is actually a good place to live and his subjects love him"wouldn't exist then.
>>150346388>You can't have "supervillain" and "reasonable" at the same time./co/ is showing its colors again.
>>150346959>"because apparently his country that he rules is actually a good place to live and his subjects love him">wouldn't exist then.maybe a cool twist would be that it's only short-term peace. Alternatively as he recruits more numbers his direct-line influence gets diluted through nature of expansion and middle management, resulting in the villain retaining his hardline goals carried out in less extremist manners by his henchmen (which he ultimately tolerates because the results i.e. removing dissent further his plans)though that more sounds like a supervillain BECOMES reasonable>>150347086I kinda get where he's coming from. Probably has to do with the term "supervillain" which implicates extreme methods with no compromise, hence not being reasonable

>>150367556You can thank the internet for allowing Experts in their domain to critique artists. In the past you could literally get away with getting things wrong because no one was going to go to a expert/hardcore hobbyist and find the flaws. Now thanks to a social media Like YouTube there is a genre of video where people call in experts to critique a Media's portrayal of their domain. While they rarely say it 100% is awful if they don't get everything right it's usually portrayed that the more "accurate" something is, the more good it is which is probably an import from Book fans getting mad when a non book adaptation butchers things.

>>150359824No, it's more nuanced than that. Often time, characters like him would get really nervous and cold feet whenever a New Girl gets introduced in class or tries to pursue a romantic interest outside the friend group, but he's already best friends with many female friends in the cast, even seeking love advices from some of them. He's not nervous around girls, he's just nervous with how to leapfrog from acquaintances to romantic with the New Girl, but has no problem going from acquaintances to friendship with girls he know, stopping short of romance. To the point that even when girls within his friend circle try to drop hints that they're interested in him, he'd unwittingly "friendzone" them despite wanting to do the same thing with his own crush. And to betray my own point, this is not an "uncommon" trope in media itself. Most MCs will usually have a couple female friends in the friendgroup, and at least one of them will take interest in him while the MC is pining for an "out of his league" girl that he somewhat knows he'd never get. This is what made the trope "childhood friend" so popular to begin with. What make my trope less common is that writers would often time lower the MC's standards as much as possible to make the pursuit of "winning the New Girl" much more daunting, limiting the number of female friends MC is allowed to have to make him more relatable, making it much harder to square the circles of an unpopular MC = many female friends, normal MC guy with many female friends = nervous around a New Girl romantic interest
