Squidward would likely try to make an effort if confronted on his mood, but he won't ever really change as it's deeply engrained into his personality. The best case scenario is you match his personality and get on swimmingly for the first few decades until you both grow old and bitter at one another or split and squidward is forever haunted or soured by the loss.

Squidward will be miserable whenever he goes because he's a narcissist. He thrives on Bikini Bottom because it gives him an excuse to feel superior and deride his lot in life. Change the scenery and he would have to face the fact that he might not be all that, which could result in him flourishing sure, but most likely will leave him more bitter than before, since he will not have a scapegoat at hand for how inadequate he feels. I know this because I try not to be him every day.

He needs to be cantankerous, he needs to be able to express his sense of self-worth because at the end of the day that is where half of his insecurities come from. That is why Squilliam is such a rival to him because he feels that he has no self-worth compared to him. If you dated Squidward it would only be a matter of time before he finds a reason to dislike you or try to act above you in the relationship.
