It's problem was that it tried way too hard to be different. It put off a lot of old TMNT fans and failed to get zoomers into it, and the fans it could capture certainly didn't help. By the time people realized the action scenes made up for it, it had already been nicktoon'd. The fact that the next new thing we got was Seth Rogan's movie makes me kick myself even harder for putting it off when I did.
