"I am the avatar! You gotta deal with it."With her first line she laid out the major problem of the entire show.
>>150354025The major problem was that she didn't keep that chubby belly to adulthood.
>>150354044Chunky avatars can go be fat on a different life spiral.
>>150354025>immediately establishes herself as her own character and not "Aang, but girl" >this was apparently a "major problem"
>>150354116The problem was that the entire series was composed of "dealing with it."
>this is the franchise bringing Paramount back to profitability
>>150354044Fucking amen to that. If she kept that fat gut the show would've been a hell of a lot better.
>>150354044>>150354170
>YOU GOTTA DEAL WITH IT
>>150354234Not a fan of the outie but the jiggling of her gut is pretty well done. Kudos to whoever edited this.
>>150354025I understand the need to make the training part a bit streamlined but the way it was done was pretty bad.
>>150354234Is she expecting
>>150354116>delibrately misrepresenting a problem so you can pretend it isn't a probleThere's about 5 million ways to distinguish her from Aang and they choose the worst.
>>150354116>>immediately establishes herself as her own character and not "Aang, but girl"She wasn't her own character though, she designed Anti-Aang. "Do the opposite of the last thing" can't be all there is to a character, because that's still a kind of dependency.
>>150354461Really? I was told by prequel fans "different good, no matter the execution"
>>150354025It's smart to know that you're not going to be able to follow up a HUGE thing, you just can't, so you should make it clear right away that you're doing something DIFFERENT.What isn't smart is starting out a show without a plan. And they obviously had dickety squat on this one. Just like the first two star wars sequels, they COULD have made it work, IF they had something satisfying for it to build to. Which is why you WRITE THAT PART FIRST.
>>150354250why was he freaking out during this scene anyway? Did the maniquine move?
>>150354930Watch the scene closely. Fred moves its head and seems to be gasping after its shot.
The show had a lot of problems but this wasn't one of them. If you ask me the biggest problem is that the show was very 'static'. If you go back and rewatch ATLA you notice how every episode they are moving around to a new location, meeting new people, experiencing new adventures. Sure they might spend a few episodes in one place to resolve a particular plot point or conflict but they eventually move on.My biggest issue with Korra is that is lacked this sense of adventure and discovery. It did occasionally manage to recapture it but only fleetingly in the later seasons by playing on nostalgia, and a lot of it felt flighty and unearned. I mean just think of ATLA episodes off the top of your head and there are loads of memorable locations, characters and situations. One in particular is the library episode. It's basically a one-off but is so strikingly memorable. Can you say the same for any episode of Korra?
>>150354044Holy based.
>>150354930He doesn't know how he got out there, so he's questioning reality.
>>150355067Much as I miss the adventure format the og series I don’t think Korra sticking to one or two locations was impossible to make work. The real issue to me was just how disposable the locations and side cast were. In ATLA one-off characters usually had entire episodes dedicated to getting to know them and their problems while one-offs in Korra are exclusively used to pass exposition along.
>>150354234YOU NEED TO BE STOPPED!
>>150354025imagine being ofended by a little child showing her gut.faggot.
>>150355320What surprises me is how empty Republic City feels compared to the amount of screentime it gets, I think one the few times it felt lived in was when Mako got info from a bunch of street kids in season 1, Republic City is treated more like a representation of progress and less like a place live in.
>>150354025You hate that a character with power is not automatically humble. It threatens your weak ass on a primal level.
>>150354025It was stupid that she struggles with Airbending. It was established that Avatars tend to have a hard time learning their opposite element, Aang struggled with Earth, Roku struggled with Water but Korra is fine with Water Earth and Fire but can't handle Air at all.
>>150356496All it does is trip my mary sue detector.
>>150356698The resolution was stupid but the problem itself made sense. They tend to have a hard time because of culture clash. Aang and Roku were more or less typical examples of their cultures so they struggled to adopt the styles and mindsets that clashed hardest with their own.Korra discovered her bending before she could really develop the biases that would've made fire tricky, but the WL raising her in a bubble ended up creating an arrogant asshat that was completely unsuited to airbending.
>>150354505Are you trying to turn this into a Star Wars thing?
>>150354930Yeah, the vampire/zombie things moved it and he starts losing it because he has to contend with: "Either the vampire/zombies are smarter and more aware than he thought and were possibly observing him without him realizing it for long enough to understand that he's attached to the mannequin AND were smart enough to know that moving it would screw with his head" or "his Wilson expy might actually be alive which would be crazy but he's also so desperate he's willing to hope some Disney movie crap could actually happen to him."
>>150356496If it was a guy you'd be screeching it's a Chud power fantasy.
>>150354505No you weren't.
>>150356496'A powerful character that isn't humble'That means the character is either an asshole hero or a villian. What point were you trying to make?Haven't seen Korra, you need to convince ME.
>>150354025Easily the worst avatar.
>>150354314Outies are the best, man. What are you on about.
>>150354025>Aang's arc was "wanting to be a normal kid" -> "accepting his destiny and responsibility as the Avatar"Consequently>Korra's arc was "defining herself as the Avatar" -> "realizing that she's Korra first, and that the Avatar isn't all powerful, and that relying on her relationships is necessary and healthy"That's why her first line is, "I'm the Avatar! You gotta deal with it!", and the last thing she does is kiss her girlfriend. It's been a decade you motherfuckers have no excuse.
>>150359087I'm still angry they changed the ending. It should have been his first Oscar.
>>150354314It looks like a horrific tumor
>>150361315>the last thing she does is kiss her girlfriend. She didn't. Retard didn't watch the show lol
>>150361315>"realizing that she's Korra first, and that the Avatar isn't all powerful, and that relying on her relationships is necessary and healthy"Which would be a neat message if she ever actually realized that, but she didn't. The only thing she learned through the entire series is that if she bumblefucks around long enough, eventually the universe will bend itself to fix her problems for her.
>>150362295Sapphic hand holding is kissing, chud.
>>150362387It's been a decade you motherfuckers have no excuse.
Korra is a million times more interesting protagonist than Aang; avatards just can not process the concept of a character flaw because mentally they are all 12 fucking years old.
>>150362416Excuse for what? We're not the one trying to justify the show's shitty writing. You are. You've made a delusional headcanon for yourself and it's too stupid for anyone else to buy into.Deal with it.
>>150354234Imagine the farts...
>>150354025I like how people call Korra a Mary Sue despite being a turbo retard>mastery of the elements peaks at “punching thing with element”>most notable feat in the avatar state was beating some kids in a race>regularly gets duped by the antagonists >loses nearly every major fight>irreparably fucked up the avatar cycle and spirit worldThe only reason she wins is because the show bends over backwards at the last second to save her dumbass.
>>150354025Korra suffering for her hubris is one of the better aspects of the show though.
>>150362716Being a turbotard and being a Mary Sue aren't mutually exclusive.
