>>150357371It started in 1991 at a time when Magneto had been de-aged and was on a knife-edge between 'antihero' and 'villain', and it was a teased might-have-been romance between a heroine and a bad boy, where she thinks maybe she can change him, but he'll never change. All of this took place months before Rogue and Gambit first met, and he went on to become her primary love interest, and Rogue's unresolved sexual tension with Magneto dies out after he has a terrorist chimpout and kills millions (but years later she has a love triangle between Gambit and an even more de-aged amnesiac heroic Magneto who later turns out to be a clone). Then, in 1995, Marvel does Age of Apocalypse, an AU setting, an alternate history where everything's changed. It's a world where heroes are villains, villains are heroes, and writers can pull the trigger on plots and ships they'd never be allowed to do for real in the regular 616 canon. In this world, Magneto is a hero who forms the X-Men, he and Rogue are married and have a son, and Gambit is her ex she still has feelings for, and the comics don't really dwell on the age gap because nobody really cared much back then.In modern times, the movies and other adaptations have made casuals much more aware of how damn old Magneto is, age-gap romances (fictional or real) where the woman is younger are much more frowned upon by the people who decide what's acceptable, and the Rogue/Gambit pairing has the kind of fanatical ride or die shippers that'll fight to the death against either of them being paired with anyone else, even in an AU, and to be honest, I wish every Marvel superhero marriage had fans like that who could force Marvel into compliance.
>>150357371girls with daddy issues
Fans of Magneto think he's entitled to Rogue in the same way that Rogue fans think she's entitled to Gambit.I wish honestly she's paired with Magneto for good because Gambit can do much better. Also, Rogue always returns to Gambit because he's there with her, but she tends to feel attracted to Magneto when he's not.
>>150360551As much as I like Rouge I wouldn't mind an arc where she has to reconcile her relationship with Magneto the next time he decides "mass murder or innocents is the solution"
>>150360588Simone made her said that Magneto was bad in UXM, but not because of her morals (which is wrong as she believes bad people can change), but because she wanted to make clear that the only guy for her was Remy, who Gail obviously dislikes and doesn't know how to write. She just likes that the character she projects herself onto has the hottest guy.I personally would rather like that, this time, it's Gambit who feels some feelings for other woman and starts to feel doubts if Rogue's really the one.
