>On the movie's release day in 2020, Matt Lieberman shared in an interview with SyFyWire that SCOOB! originally was titled S.C.O.O.B., standing for Special Covert Organization of Otherworldly Beings. Despite the acronym being written out of the movie, the title was kept. A different interview with Matt Lieberman confirmed 80% of the basic plot of the film stayed the same in the final version; it was just the atmosphere and scenes that changed.> According to a Variety article from 2017, S.C.O.O.B. was originally supposed to be Hanna-Barbera's version of the Avengers/Justice League, with a group of heroes teaming up to stop Dick Dastardly and Muttley. >A piece of concept art from 2015 by character designer Paul Sullivan on his website, shows one of the concepts that was considered for this "Justice League" of Hanna-Barbera characters. As can be seen from this art, the original concept included more than just Blue Falcon, Dynomutt, Dee Dee and Captain Caveman. Jabberjaw, Penelope Pitstop, Atom Ant, and Grape Ape were also originally a part of the film, but were written out in the final version. An art portfolio page by Alex Konstad shows some much darker, more sinister concept art for the film was at one point considered. This page also shows that Captain Caveman appears to have originally had a much bigger role in the film than just the brief scene that he got. According to Konstad's Instagram, he pitched The Great Gazoo from The Flintstones as the villain, similar to how Scrappy was made the villain of the first live action film.> In an interview with Michael J. Lee of RadioFree, Tony Cervone shared that a struggle the film faced is that telling the story through the lens of the broader Hanna-Barbera universe caused a sort of identity crisis for the film, because there were too many characters to be properly developed.fuck it, i would have rather gotten that, even if it ended up being a mess
its pretty sad that it never took off, i blame covid
As someone who has watched a lot of Scooby Doo media across all the decades, shows, and movies.Scoob is probably the worst fucking movie of them all. It may not be as boring or uninteresting as others, but it's the one that tries its hardest to be funny and fails at every single turn. It's the one that feels the most cynical and corporate. One of the jokes is just the fact that Scooby says "Ikea", that's the level of writing we're talking about.
>>150360416>What were they thinking?"Super heros are hot right now. Lets dust off the one we own and see if a theme park will pay to liscence him."Probably also needed to dust off that dick dastardly copyright

>>150361652jeez its almost as if we should have focused on making a GOOD SCOOBY DOO MOVIE FIRST BEFORE HAMFISTEDLY STARTING A CINEMATIC UNIVERSE!
>>150361689this.They had so little to say that the movie ends up just being a bullet point list of the franchise's past successes. At some point you start asking yourself what the point even was. When news of Warner shitcanning a ton of animated projects broke, people began lamenting the cancellation of a few Sdoobg projects in the works. Namely the Krypto crossover (absolute shit) and Scoob 2, which undoubtedly would have been an even bigger piece of shit.
>>150361714>lets make an HB cinematic universe>oh so we can use the HB heroes again?>no lets fixate on exclusively using the goofy slapstick characters instead!befuddling retardation. imagine owning the likes of space ghost and frankenstein jr only to prioritize fucking grape ape and penelope pitstop.
>>150361860there have already been plenty of good scooby movies. we don't need to re-introduce anything with scooby
>>150361714>the one superhero we ownAnon, Warner have owned DC Comics since 1972.
>>150361729>Should've just made a wacky races movie man.Im not sure they would put the right people and enough money into a wacky races movie.Like for starters, the creative team has to realize that most fans aren't there for typical Hanna Barbara jokes. They are there because the traps are mildly interesting or the race (I know that is hard to belive for an adult, but 6 year olds like watching the weird little cars race. It was part of the appeal).Really, they would need to hand it to some old Japanese animators that understand wacky races and Time woman. Maybe get some people that worked on Redline so they can update the feel of speed. Most of the fans of wacky races are between 40 and 60 and will need the visuals of the race updated get that same feeling of racing.
>>150361910>befuddling retardation. imagine owning the likes of space ghost and frankenstein jr only to prioritize fucking grape ape and penelope pitstop.Dude, these decisions are made by suits that are barely aware of the back catalogs they own. They picked grape ape because he is big like the hulk.Do you really think they've watched any of these shows other than scooby?
>>150361910I adore Space Ghost, Jonny Quest, Herculoids and the entire Toth-verse but that shit would NOT sell.Mmmmmaybe there's an outside chance for JQ but even then they'd have to make him at least somewhat "contemporary" in a way that would be annoying. The crossover with Tom & Jerry worked surprisingly well because it allowed T&J to provide the slapstick for kids while Team Quest is having an adventure in the background. Space Ghost would take a lot of work to sell as a serious adventure franchise. Frank Jr is teased in SCOOB for what its worth.I do understand using the likes of Penelope and Capt Caveman. Like it or not, they're more well known. A scooby doo "avengers" movie is basically their team from Laff a Lympics. Swap out Jeannie and Speed Buggy for Penelope Pitstop and Jabberjaw. Maybe get cheeky and throw in Grape Ape, Atom Ant and Secret Squirrel for cameos. Just make it Scooby & Shaggy getting thrown in with an existing "superhero animals" teamAdding the rest of Mystery Inc makes the movie too busy.
>>150361948Im talking Hanna Barbara. It was a Hana Barbara property movie. Not Warner brothers.

The heart and chemistry of the gang were pushed aside for flashy action and awkward jokes, making it feel like just another forgettable animated film rather than a loving update of a classic series.
the best bets for a HB "movie universe"a Wacky Races movie that uses crossover HB characters. Like a Yogi Bear car, a the Mystery Machine, etc.a Laff a Lympics gimmick.
>>150362054>JeannieIs a better choice than Penelope. She has actual powers. She's as cute as Penelope so you'll still get 7 year old girls to watch. I dont really know if you can build an avengers from Hana Barabara characters without massive liberties being taken. They are all essentially goobers. All of them. At most, some of them are ok detectives. You'd need to combine 4 of them to make 1 batman.
>>150362074Thats kind of cool in a weird way but I dont know if I want to watch 26 episodes of that
I absolutely fucking loved this movie$I grew up watching Cartoon Network all day as a kid - meaning I was raised on the Hanna-Barbera back catalog -, so the idea of that entire cast of characters meaningfully inhabiting a single, unified world, modernized versions of all of them getting proper stories instead of it being played for laughs like in Jellystone, was incredible! And aside from all the incredible background details that you notice, the movie itself was great! The opening with the revised origins of Mystery Inc. was great and the stuff with Dastardley and Muttley is the best the two have ever been (the plot being about Dick's love for Muttley was so good). And it was just a great adventure flick in general! It speaks volumes to the incompetence of the studio that they outright refused to get more of this going!
>>150362057Hanna-Barbera was absorbed entirely into Warner in 2001 and ceased to exist. If Warner just wanted more capes they have all they need with DC, they hardly needed their HB properties for that purpose.

>>150361652Yeah, they replaced Penelope with Dee Dee as they felt Penelope and the Wacky Races would work better for their own film and sequel. Plus diversity or something like that.Jabberjaw was going to be a woman here though, with Tony Cervone insisting it would've worked.
>>150362176Okay, dude, what's your deal? Is Warner paying you to write this? You also wrote an extremely positive review of "Be Cool, Scooby-Doo" in the other thread.Either you're being paid or you have absolutely no judgment and your taste is rubbish.

Speaking of Scooby-DooTrick or Treat Scoob, the movie with Coco Diablo (fucking amazing), the movie that was the belated celebration and send-off to the original Where Are You series, had a straight up sequel tease at the end of it. Is there any news about that particular storyline moving forward, does anybody know if that one movie is getting its proper sequel sometime?

>>150362054It can work. It has worked in the past. The issue is that warner and hollywood at large lack both the aoppreciation, effort, and respect of the material to make it work. That's what went wrong with SCOOB to begin with. Scooby and friends are their own independent entity. It doesnt make sense to make them into the Iron Man of a capeshitproject. Scooby isnt capeshit, and forcing it into that direction leads to messy results (unless we're talking about a crossover or something, like the old Batman one). At his core Space Ghost is a space cop who hunts alien criminals. All the movie would have to be is that. Unfortunately Warner has no belief in the properties they own and we get retarded shit as a result.Fuck man being a Tothfag is suffering. Fucking Future Quest went nowhere and despite their best efforts Steve and Mike couldnt even get a Nexus movie off the ground, what chances do the HB originals have. Especially with the mockery [as] made of them over the years.
>>150362392>Penelope Pitstop is a genuinely great character that Warners. could do so much with; it is embarassing how bad they are with the HB library. Its gard to imagine just how hot Penelope would have to be in her own movie or show for you guys to not melt down that she was robbing time away from the male characters.

>>150362392I could talk your ear off about golden opportunities warner is wasting. The fact that we didnt get an animated Josie and the Pussy Cats musical after the success of Trolls for instance is nothing short of baffling. Everything these major corporations own goes to waste in their hands.

>>150362761Birdman, Herculoids, and Space Ghost are from space. A descendant of Mightor, or the original, can come about by either inheriting his club or having classic Mightor travel into the future. Shazzan and Young Samson are contemporary (by 20th century standards) heroes. Just go read Future Quest if you dont think there's potential here. Those writers made it work just fine. The larger issue is finding a significant enough villain to have them unite against.
>>150362818>Those writers made it work just fine. The larger issue is finding a significant enough villain to have them unite against. They have to fight warner to get the movie out a d defeat obscurity

>>150362818Fun fact: The Mighty Mightor was a retooled pitch of a Mighty Thor cartoon. After HB had success with the Fantastic Four cartoon, Thor was the next Marvel cartoon they wanted to adapt but it fell through and they salvaged the development into Mightor.
>>150362712>Scooby isnt capeshit, and forcing it into that direction leads to messy results (unless we're talking about a crossover or something, like the old Batman one)A big budget Scooby Doo - Batman animated movie crossover could probably do well. They've been so intertwined across multiple cartoons & comics for DECADES. Studio execs overthink this stuff and don't see how much easy of a sell that could be to kids. Similarly, a Looney Tunes - DC Superheroes movie crossover has also been sitting right there for a long time.
>>150362712A serious Space Ghost movie would be cool as hell... but it is an impossibly hard sell. Look at the failures of stuff like Titan AE, Treasure Planet, etc. "serious" animated sci-fi doesn't really work in American theatrical movies (but i wish it did)Jonny Quest is the only marketable "way in" You can maybe start there with a JQ - Space Ghost crossover.

>>150361652I'm a nobody on /co/ but I'm gonna shoot my shot and pitch a better idea for a Hanna-Barbera cinematic universe. Here we go.
>>150371597SCOOBY-DOO>An animated prequel about how the gang met.>Retcons "A Pup Named Scooby-Doo," "Scooby-Doo: The Mystery Begins," but 1) Scooby-Doo canon is fast and loose, and 2) it's a brand-new universe. Let the chips fall where they may.>Shaggy, a slacker, is mysteriously transferred to an elite high-school attended by a ton of uber-competitive mystery-solving teens. (The casts of Captain Caveman, Speed Buggy, etc.)>Through a twist of supernatural fate, a young Scooby-Doo inadvertedly unleashes a slew of crazy ghouls and monsters (Speed Buggy, the Funky Phantom, Speed Buggy, Jabberjaw, etc.) into the world. Now it's up to Shaggy, Scooby, and their new friends to put a stop to this ghoulish madness before the school Halloween party.>The storytelling is something like Goosebumps crossed with The Breakfast Club (but still light and comedic).>Characters from across the Scooby mythos will feature, including Vincent Van Ghoul, the Hex Girls, and Red Herring.
>>150365159Holy shit I never knew that but it makes so much sense. I wish we had more threads discussing the 60's marveltoons. Nobody talks about the fact that Namor once had his own animated series, and the fact he did meant the HB Fantastic Four cartoon had to replace him with an OC in "Triton". I like to think Triton is what Namor would have been were he a full blooded Atlantean/Submariner as opposed to a half blood.
>>150365201Maybe. I dont have alot of faith in DC animation anymore. Ever since 2015 they really havent produced anything of note. I didnt like LEGO Batman either, and the last two DC/Scooby crossovers were overstuffed and hard to sit through.Ultimately I agree though. The execs are a major part of the problem. BTW we did get the one Bugs Bunny Superman movie however many years ago. That's better than nothing.
>>150365245Yeah I'm all too aware. Still I really want it. If I had the money I'd bankroll the Nexus movie just to come close to a Space Ghost film. As for Jonny they really missed their opportunity in the 90's. Imagine a James Cameron directed Jonny Quest movie released circa 1998 starring Schwarzenegger as Bannon, Dicaprio as Jonny, Leguisamo as Hadji, and Liam Neeson as Prof Quest. That's exactly what the Quest property was in desperate need of to rocket back into relevancy. Nowadays they could try doing something similar but it just wouldnt have the same bite. Nobody but oldfags like me recognize Quest anymore.
>>150365627I guess so. I didnt consider it myself. I was thinking about it from an exec's point of view. Cant you just imagine some ivory tower suit going "who's our thanos?"

>>150365682Man, the artistic talent who worked on Scoob could probably deliver on some amazing Dick Tracy designs. I'm not even saying as much as a reference to the Dastardly meme, the way they realized Dastardly just really suits the aesthetics of Tracy and his rogues.
