So let's say for the sake of argument that Pattison's The Batman is indeed integrated into Gunn's DCU, is this going be a complete tonal and setting whiplash that'll ultimately end up hurting both projects? Could you buy this take on Batman getting way more advanced tools and encounter way more fantastical adversaries such as Solomon Grundy or Clayface, ultimately joining the DCU Justice League with Superman, or would it instead result in the prior charm being diminished? Does this being essentially Year Two Batman offer any justification or wiggle room?

Or are you in the boat that The Batman should remain self-contained and WB merely create a new Batman for Brave & The Bold?
>>
I have no idea what you just said.
>>
>>150371417
Batman shouldn't share any universe with other DC heroes. It ruins the character and his world.
>>
>>150371509
>Batman shouldn't share any universe with other DC heroes. It ruins the character and his world
this the shared universe obsession is the main reason capeshit is so bad
>>
>>150371417
gunn's dcu is DOA
>>
why can't people who make comic book movies just make comic book movies without it being inserted into imagined universes
>>
>>150371556
>gunn's dcu is DOA
Except it isn't? Creature Commandos seems to have done well and Superman is doing so well it's sequel has already been greenlit. Not to mention that Supergirl is already very well anticipated by audiences. No if it makes it past those is another matter entirely, but saying it's DOA is just denial of reality. It's here already, and it's very much alive.
>>
>>150371417
>for the sake of argument that Pattison's The Batman is indeed integrated into Gunn's DCU,
Hopefully it never happens but sure
>is this going be a complete tonal and setting whiplash that'll ultimately end up hurting both projects?
No. It's like crying that Punisher and Daredevil exist in the same universe as happy goofy post Darkworld Thor
>Could you buy this take on Batman getting way more advanced tools and encounter way more fantastical adversaries such as Solomon Grundy or Clayface, ultimately joining the DCU Justice League with Superman, or
A good writer can make fucking manbat believable and compelling
>would it instead result in the prior charm being diminished?
It might but read above
>Does this being essentially Year Two Batman offer any justification or wiggle room?
Any theoretical justification will come from the asspull regardless of it being Batman year 2 or year 20
>>
>>150371509
This. It's the one thing I kind share about DC and Marvel, that everything got pushed into being one world. Like fucking Howard the Duck, Wolfman, Dracula, Fantastic Four, Thor, can all fucking interact. It's just stupid but I GET that they HAD to sell comics and do those crossovers. I don't mind Batman teaming up with the Justice League or Superman, but the same time I like it more when Batman is in his own universe and there's no such thing as Metropolis or the New Gods or the Teen Titans n shit.
>>
>>150371509
So Batman being inspired by Alan Scott is a bad thing?
>>
>>150371509
You sound like someone who just watched the Dark Knight Trilogy.
>>
>>150371417
It's a fuckin Batman movie. Stop trying to overfaggify it.
>>
>>150371417
It'd only work if they dramatically shifted to going hard scifi horror & fantastical comic book elements.
>>
>>150371417
What are the chances of Batman 2 being a failure like Joker Foile a Deux because the director thought he could make something DEEP and INTELLECTUAL
>>
>>150371417
i watched superman and the batman back to back and they both fit so well with each other you'd think it was intentional
>>
I'm wondering how people consider this Batman more realistic or grounded than Nolan's. Yeah, Nolan's had the more sci-fi gadgets but he also was "realism" to the point of "there's no way Bruce would be able to do this long"
I still remember when the rumor was the Batman 2 would bring in Mr.Freeze >>150372633
The problem is Brave and The Bold is inherently at a disadvantage for the simple fact that Battinson exists.
Not even in terms of how good Battinson was but in terms of people liking it enough to not want another fucking reboot

I think it would be fun trying to get both tones into the same movie and I even think they have some real overlap already. Is Gunn and co capable of writing a real combo instead of just defaulting to his usual style and playing Batman as the straight man for comical Superman stuff? I doubt it. Pattinson said he's down to keep playing Batman even though he's at the exact point in his career where he could get almost any role he wants so I'd be shocked if he was down for spending extended time with a cape shared universe which based on what other actors have said for the MCU is like being on call throughout the year and hogs a lot of time that could be spent on other movies.
>>
>>150372697
They both TRY to be too grounded to actually be superhero movies. Nolan had Bruce do his ninja training.... then never learn any real martial arts combat that ever pays off. He fights like a drunk. Reeves did a slightly better job by making Battinson a brawler & focusing on the action. But the ninja martial artist element is removed entirely. Like Bruce never actually left Gotham. Which removes a big key aspect of his backstory to becoming Batman. Actually being well traveled & learned. Reeves also had those stupid contact lens cameras instead of just giving the cowl lenses. They didn't even have to be completely white eyes. Animated versions have gotten around this. But no that's just toooo comic booky & means they have to GASP obscure the actor's face just that little bit more!
>>
>>150371417
The trick is you make it seem like Batman: Year 2 and reveal in the final act it's year 15. And then show off that Bruce spent that time prepping Gotham for gods and monsters along with how the city treats Batman (they know he exists, but nearly everyone swears he's an urban legend making people outside Gotham believe the myth over the truth). And then the other stuff:

>Guy pretends Batman's fake because Batman took his ring and punched him the one time he tried to come to Gotham
>Mr. Terrific knows who Batman is and sells patents to WayneTech, just goes along with the myth to piss off Guy
>Wayne Enterprises sponsors Max Lord's Brother Eye concept as both are using it for different means
>Gotham really is that hard and most people do not fuck with it because of the mafia and what happens to those that become "Gotham"-branded rogues that become obsessed with Batman.
>Clark thinks there's a story there and goes to Gotham. And instead of meeting The Batman Bruce he meets the media rehabbed Bruce Wayne after 15 years that has begun to keep tabs on everyone
>>
>>150373467
Snyder already did old Bruce & it sucked. No point doing that again.
>>
>>150372697
>>150373143
The perception of Nolanverse vs the reality of Nolanverse is eternally off. It's not grimdark; it's actually really hopeful. It isn't even super grounded. I consider it like super heightened realism or something. It really is just a step away from something like Watchmen tier in terms of realism and yet people have so many preconceived notions about it
>>
>>150371417
>Artistic creative freedom should be sacrificed because I want to see my action figures clash (and maybe kiss)
I know Pattison WANTS fantastical Batman but ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
>>
>tfw Pattinson is alive in the most slop era of movies
it's really not fair
>>
>>150373989
Grimdark wasn't brought up. It is held back by trying to be "grounded" & "realistic" rather than embracing anything fantastical. Even the gear is all tacticool shit based on military prototype concepts. It's own logic falls apart though with a lot of bad writing decisions that lead to logical pitfalls that only happen for the story. I'm talking about shit like Batman pretending he's downed from a single gunshot just to tackle Harvey instead of using his fucking batarangs to stop him from firing his gun. Leading to Harvey dying, breaking his rule again, Bruce's leg getting injured, & becoming reclusive until Bane shows up. Not to mention Bruce, without any resources, teleporting back to Gotham & having all his gear again. This isn't even getting into the dumb shit in Reeves movie & the other sacrifices to be gritty & "realistic".
>>
>>150374132
I just hear "muh grimdark" all the time about the Nolan movies when in reality every movie just follows the darkest before the dawn formula and actually has a hopeful message by the end, especially Dark Knight and Rises where the problem is ultimately solved by the people of Gotham being better than the villain thinks and ultimately saving themselves while Batman stops the main villain.

It can absolutely be done, but there has to be coherent creative direction and quality control for it to work. Nobody doubted that more fantastical villains would be a problem before the merge became an issue, now they pretend like its impossible. The DCU wants a world that can feature a bunch of very different settings, Reeves' Gotham is not beyond the pale.
From a creative perspective I still don't want a merge, but the worlds and themes of The Batman and Superman are extremely compatible. See>>150372633. Keep The Batman and sequels set in 2019-2020 as originally envisioned and go from there. Like this you'd even get a perfect Teen Titans aged Dick. I desperately want an unashamed Morrison Batman in the DCU, but I'd much prefer a merge to Andy Muschietti directing Damian.
>>150371509
But he does.
Now what?
Stupid nigger.
>>
>>150372697
>I'm wondering how people consider this Batman more realistic or grounded than Nolan's
Honestly. When I saw Battinson glide off Gotham PD, I couldn't believe his skull wasn't caved in by the bridge he crashed into. If Battinson can survive that, Superman can exist.
>>
>>150371509
First, I agree with this. I like Batman when there are no Meta Humans beyond his own rogues gallery.

>>150371417
It just wouldn't be as bad as you think, especially encountering and reacting to fantastical elements. Keep him as grounded and human as he was in The Batman, but write him so that his presence is integral to the larger macro crisis that Superman is dealing with.

As much as I like Batman isolated from the rest of the DCU, I think Pattinson could actually work really well in Gunn's universe. Batman would be significant precisely because he's such an outlier compared to everyone we already saw in Superman...his tenacity and borderline mental illness would make him stand out in a world of super-humans, and his attitude would give Superman something to chew on and grapple with, and vice versa. Battinson could have a genuine jealousy and fixation on the other meta humans for having power beyond his reach, though using it in ways he thinks is stupid.

My concern is that DCU batman will wind up being goth Mr. Terrific, or Lego Batman played by an actor, but Battinson would be a great foil, and it's not improbable in the slightest for "human level" conflict to be dramatic in the same film where super conflict is occurring.

It comes down to the writing and where the machinations of the story lie. If there's something that only Batman can do, or access, or is privvy to, or realizes before anyone else, he can play a significant role even if other heroes are doing the big punching, and the juxtapozition would be really interesting.
>>
>>150373819
I like all of this but make it 5 years.
>>
>>150371417
I was talking about this with some friends the other day
We came to the conclusion the best compromise was to have Pattison play Batman/Bruce, but not the same one. Fuck with the normies by having him play it like the Adam West batman where he's a total unironic do gooder with goofy ass utility belt shit, calling people chum, word association riddler logic, etc.

I believe the seeds of Bruce's gear getting serious upgrades as already been planted at the end of The Batman. Batman has the arc of not only being vengeance and fear, but also hope, as seen with his actions assisting citizens during the recovery efforts post flood rather than just slink in the shadows. This could also mean that in turn Bruce will have a more active role with Wayne Industries, which he mostly neglected during the film thinking those responsibilities unimportant.

So moving forward into 2 and beyond to perhaps integrate into the DCU, perhaps Bruce has a more public activity with the inner workings of this company and doing more charity/humanitarian actions to help the city rebuild. While doing this he meets Lucius Fox, starts getting more bold with tech development now that he has a trusted man inside who can run interference, and takes everything he's learned during the Riddler crisis to essentially become something that COULD face weird shit like Clayface or Killer Croc or Mister Freeze. Escalation can still happen here, enough to justify this take on Batman hanging out with Superman and a future Justice League. Same could be said with Selina getting better gear and a new Catwoman suit too.

I legitamately hated this movie and I hate this take on Batman, so if that makes my opinion worthless to you whatever; but the more tonally different and isolated he 'feels' the more hilarious and absurd his interaction with Superman will be and it would legitamize his angst and make their commrodery a lot better. Gunns superman was also a lot weaker so there is room for this Batman to be his detective support, since he isnt all knowing. But I know people who like this Batman and see it as an artistic take on the character hate everything I just said.
>>
>>150375142
It isn't even fucking with the normies at this point. Less people watched The Batman than you'd think and those who watched it didn't actually love it that much.

Fuck off
>>
It's not and they shouldn't his movie was bad
>>
>>150376291
See you understand. That would cement him as a real hero and legitimately be funny as fuck. They probably hear rumors about him and think hes supposed to have super speed or something. And Vengeance is probably living in fear of encountering any of them because he knows it will be embarrassing unless he is in control.
>>
>>150371417
Do you think having two Batmans at the same time is a good idea? What's your reason?
And no, there MUST be a Batman in the DCU, because he's too big to be ignored.
So there's the option: A, to integrate Pattinson (horrible idea, but it could be good with the execution) or B, to have another Batman in the DCU (it totally depends on how the public receives it, but it's more likely to be a disaster and a good way to destroy a shared universe).
>>
Retard, Gunn's DCU already has a Batman movie in production and it's obviously not Reeves'
>>
Maybe there's a simpler idea for an opposite case of keeping battingson and DCU separate:
If the Batman 2 script is done/no further rewrites:
>immediately write Batman 3/any further TV shows while making Batman 2,
>fast-track to aim for a release of batman 3 around 2029/2030, finish the trilogy within the 2020s.
>continue any leftover Battingson storyline in TV format while the DCU slowly introduces a new batman, either in brave and bold or references in future movies.shows.
>New Gunn Justice League comes out early 2030s, new batman gets introduced like spiderman in Civil war, still a short timeframe for rebooting a character, but the transition will be more organic.
If Batman 2 script still somehow not done/additional expansion of storyline, or future plans for Batman 3 and 4:
>Aim for a 2-parter so both 2-3 or 3-4 can be made back to back
>fast-track them to both be made within a 2-year timeframe
>DCU can reboot batman much quicker once Battingson is done.
Yes, in both cases, the ending might end up rushed, inconclusive and stuffed with too many characters, ending up like dark knight rises. But DC already wasted so much time between The Batman 2022 and Superman 2025 to decide even to start production of Batman 2, that they have to decide it's now or never to end Battingson movies soon, in or out of DCU, so they can plan that damn Justice league or which new face to shove in Brave and Bold.

Like some newspaper/cast clipping with "Superman rescues drowning bus in Bludhaven" or even a scene of Supes helping Gotham with the flooding.
Them interacting could be tricky though
