As much as people complain about Batgod-type stories, I think I may actually hate, even more than those, stories that basically have the opposite problem: where Batman's just fucking useless. You've seen them over the years: the individual issues, or multi-issue story arcs, where Bruce doesn't actually stop any particular evil, but merely keeps showing up to react to the trouble after the fact, all the way up until the finale. Where his skills as a detective and a fighter basically don't matter and nothing meaningful is done about the main problem of the story.

The Long Halloween is basically this. So is The Batman, the movie. There's plenty of others and I don't like any of them. I don't like Batgod but Batman just being USELESS is worse, IMO.

One of the reasons the Arkham games are appreciated as much as they are. Batman is treated as this relentless force. He's either beating the shit out of criminals, thwarting their terrorist plots, or doing the job of an entire police department in minutes.

Yes, extremes are bad in either direction.

Easy for Batman when all he needs to do is press x to scan something and the computer gives him the answer.

TLH wasn't that bad, Batman gets to beat the usual villains which makes up for the plot demanding he can't catch the killer until the end. Dark Victory is where he's actually useless.

Imagine if they made a Batman game that was actually 50/50 fighting and detective work, but it's hard to do good detective mechanics in a game so punching instead.

It would be a massive failure. The more complicated you make a game, the less popular it is
>B-But Dark Souls?
I don't find them complicated, but even in those games this proves true. Dark Souls 2 was easily the hardest and with the least hand-held map design, and of course it's the least popular, whereas Elden Ring practically points you in the direction to go (heck graces point at area bosses) and of course it's the most popular.
