I watched Ne Zha 2 yesterday. It was fun in the same way Kung Fu Panda or HTTYD are, mixing slapstick and a bit of gross humor with cool fights and "darker" subplots like wars, death and genocide, but honestly it wasn't something that I would rewatch every tine it airs on TV or that I would pay multiple times to watch in theaters. There are other Chinese films that I find better.

Wasn't I supposed to sympathize with the demon characters and bond with them to relate to their side? If so, introducing them to quickly dismiss them for the big fights made that just unfeasible, thus, making it extra difficult to care about the main conflict of this whole movie. At some point, I was just watching for the spectacle and the main duo since it's what this movie lazer focuses on at the cost of the side characters. I'm REALLY hoping they try to take their time with the world and the characters in it in the next movie, because as it stands, it's just a shonnen anime disguised as a movie with none of the benefits of a long running series. Demons are beings implied to be that way because they are bad and karma makes them be reborn like that. But they can ascend by cultivating and improving themselves.
